Anna Replaces Her T1N Sprinter's Fuel Filter! (2004-2006 Sprinter Repair)

In this video, Anna shows you how to replace your fuel filter on your T1N Sprinter. It's a surprisingly easy process and one that you should keep on top of to maintain your injection system!
The Sprinter repair manual recommends a service interval of every 10,000 miles (every oil change). We feel that is a bit excessive, but only because we consistently get good quality fuel in Florida. If your fuel is subpar, 10,000 miles is appropriate. If you consistently get good quality fuel like us, 30,000 (every 3 oil changes) is our recommendation.

    i find all of your videos helpful and entertaining - this one about changing the fuel filter though left me wondering why my 2006 T1N has a hose that goes nowhere connected to the to fitting in the middle

  • @FloridaVanMan

    @FloridaVanMan

    That short hose is silly. It is intended to drain water from the bottom of the filter by loosening the black knob the hose is on. Don't do this.... If you have water in your fuel filter, more effort is needed than turning that silly screw and letting some water out.

    Do the t20 screws on the water separator require a special type of driver? Looks like a star head when I do a google search but just double checking. I want to make sure I have all the tools I need. Thanks!

    Just did my fuel filter yesterday. 2006 Everything went fine except now, I have a WIF warning light. There is no water in the fuel. I'm bummed. Plug went in fine and seated. Nice work Anna.

    It's a 2006 shorty 2500 185,000 mi. I reused the sensor. If I unplug the sensor plug, the light stays on. I didn't stress the plug or wires when taking out filter. I took it out today and put it all together to make sure. Fuel within filter was perfect....no water. Light still on. Sucks. Thanks for reply. Great videos.

    My Fuel filter looks a bit different - Original MB 6110920101 for a 313 CDI 2005 (Australian) know our models are completely different to the US so was just wondering would you know if this also has the pump? or how can I tell by looking at it? just trying to work out if I would need fill it up with diesel before plugging it back in. Also wonder what does the Molly do? thanks!

    Folks talk highly of Liquid-Moly but it did nothing for me the two times I used it. I am not a believer in magic that comes in bottles and that is what most of them claim to do. Whether or not to fill the filter: If you have an in-tank fuel pump it will fill the filter. We can hear and feel the pump vibrate at the round bump on the bottom of the fuel tank. If you don't have an in-tank pump you will have two fuel pumps on the front of the engine, low pressure sucking from the tank and filter, and high pressure accepting fuel from the first via short hose between them, possibly a "Y" or "T" hose with 3 ends.

    Replaced fuel filter and removed fuel pump to tighten captive bolts on my ‘05 put some fuel from the old fileter into the new one, put everything back together, started and ran it for several minutes until it ran smooth. Then it sat for two days and now it won’t stay running. Starts easily but conks out after a 2 or 3 seconds. Bled injectors. Opened water thingy on top of filter and sprayed diesel everywhere. Still no luck keeping it running. Tried many times. Any ideas?

    My 2005 has a breather tube attached to the screw knob on the top of the sensor in the center of the filter. Should that knob be tightened or loose? Your video didn't show the breather tube attached.

  • @FloridaVanMan

    @FloridaVanMan

    3 ай бұрын

    That little tube is silly and most of our vans lost it more than a decade ago. The screw on top of the filter is to drain water from the bottom of the filter when you WIF light comes on, on the dash. If you have water in the fuel filter, I suppose driving some is better than doing nothing but I'd recommend getting towed to a place where the water problem can be resolved! Draining excess water out of diesel is not sufficient for anything at all, in my opinion. So the hose meant to route the drained fuel-water into a bottle or away from the top of filter is totally useless. The knob should be tight and any time you might think about opening the valve... replace the filter.

  • @FloridaVanMan

    Twist a little as you pull on the hoses. When needed I'll put a pliers on the hose and twist it first to break the adhesion of being pressed to the nipple for years.

    I have worked on vehicles since the 60's. I "always" keep my vehicles engines and the parts I have to work on clean. I and I bet all of us do better quality work when it's clean. It shows the owner cares about their stuff. The big plus is it's nicer when something fails and your in nowhere'sville by the road piss but at least it's not a greasy shitty job. Another plus is if you open your hood like me at every gas stop it very easy to see a leak. Anyone that does their own work should wash their engine regularly.
