1904 Russo-Japanese War. Manchuria. The Russian military hospital, retreating, occupies a semi-abandoned Chinese village. The head of the hospital, Sergei Karenin, learns that the wounded officer he is operating on, earl Vronsky, is the one who killed his mother, Anna Karenina, and indirectly caused the death of his father. Having no illusions and not expecting an answer, Karenin nevertheless goes to Vronsky and asks the question that has tormented him all his life: what made his mother cross the line? earl Vronsky, in turn, learns that the doctor is the same Seryozha Karenin. After some hesitation, the count agrees to tell the story of his tragic love for Anna Karenina, noting that people remember only what is convenient for them to remember...

At least Vronsky is actually attractive here and has that singular Slav guy charm like I imagined while reading the novel.
UK had Shakespeare and Russia had Leo Tolstoy and his great work Anna Karenina ❤

Russian movies are extraordinary. Please more movies with subtitles.
I was skeptical about the story frame at first, but so far, this is the best version of "Anna Karenina" I've seen. Everything about it is simply stunning, including the directing.

Where is Константин Дмитриевич Лёвин Levin the main character and the person who is most in the novel?

It really is wonderful. I feel the framing device is a bit like Dr. Zhivago with the flashbacks showing that things end badly. But Anna and Vronsky are just magnetic.

What about those long dresses dragging on the deck behind those fancy women? Not a fashion maven here, but the material (whatever it is), can't possibly last very long, and it must be wicked hard to clean, if not damaged by regular wear. I have never seen this explained, I can't be the only one wondering.

@@BobHooker I agree. This is wonderful, but without Levin and Kitty, we are seeing just half of the novel--in fact, just half of Tolstoy himself, who depicted his own divided self in the characters Levin and Vronsky.

Apart from Levin missing which makes the whole thing questionable, the framing also doesn't make a lot of sense considering that Vronsky is remembering things he didn't experience.
Wonderful beautiful more please from great Russian literature. Excellent
Best adaptation ever, in every sense!❣️
Superb!! Peisajul, costumele, limba, reproducerea perioadei istorice, impecabil!! 👏👏💙🤍🩷
Here’s an interesting piece of trivia: Elizaveta Boyarskaya 💕 (Anna Karenina) and Maksim Mateev ⭐️ (Count Vronsky) have actually been married since 2010 and have two children!

The best version of this tragic story.
Thank you ....amazing series
Absolutely Stunning. Bravo! 🌹🌹🌹
Really well done! I highly recommend this serie.
Interesting that in this episode, Alexei Karenin says to Anna, "I love you." In the novel, he never tells her he loves her. Otherwise this episode captures Alexei's character very well.

Probably used to increase the risk/tension between the two.
I couldn't help but to watch it all over and over and over again!! WOW!!
Another excellent episode! I’m looking forward to watching the rest of this terrific period drama!
Interestingly, this adaptation makes Alexei Karenin a compulsively jealous husband even before Anna's affair. Interesting change from the novel.
Beautifully done...interesting to see in Russian. I couldn't get through the stiff academic translation decades ago, so this is a real pleasure.
Thank you for sharing I love them 😍
Amazing
Watched many times and again 👍
“Will I die soon? Tell me, we are soldiers after all…”
Was Anna's husband the same actor that played the Major in The White Tiger? Great war movies.

Yes.
at 26:38 she reminds me of Keri Russell of Felicity.
Alexei looks like Omar Al sharif, coz he also played Alexi in one of his most famous arabic films
I don't understand what is happening with the pipes from when the Chinese girl approaches the sitting men at 21:02 to when we walks away from them at 21:13. Does the girl offer them for sale, and the men, after examining them, reject them?
