About Anjelah:
Anjelah Johnson-Reyes was born and raised in San Jose, California where she grew up with four siblings in a large extended family to which she remains close. Anjelah found herself an internet sensation and pioneer in viral KZread videos when her notorious “Nail Salon” bit from a local comedy show was posted and received over 100 million views! Shortly thereafter she was added to the cast on the original MADtv where she trademarked her legendary character, Bon Qui Qui. Similar to the nail salon video, the Bon Qui Qui sketch caught on and have been viewed by over 75 million people. The multi-hyphenate’s popularity has translated into four successful comedy specials: That’s How We Do It” (Comedy Central), The Homecoming Show (NUVO TV), Not Fancy (Netflix) and Mahalo & Good Night (Epix). She has displayed her acting prowess both on TV and film. Some of her credits include “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” “Superstore,” “Moms’ Night Out,” and “Alvin & the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel.” Her first book was published in 2022, Who Do I Think I Am: Stories of Chola Wishes and Caviar Dreams, a hilarious and touching memoir full of memorable anecdotes on how a Latina dynamo was able to forge ahead and become successful.

My Mom had her first baby girl at 20. Her last baby girl at 40. There were 5 of us in between. It was the 50s n 60s. Birthcontrol was still taboo. She enjoyed her babies she had at 37 and 40 more than the other 5 of us. She didn't have time to enjoy us. She was too busy teaching us and worrying where the next meal would come from. With my baby sisters they had the resources so they didn't have to worry. The rest of us were gone by the time the baby was 6. So they only had the two girls and the money to do things for them and with them. There's definitely something to be said for having children in your 40s.

Huge congratulations! I was 41 when I delivered my beautiful daughter! My pregnancy was smooth and my delivery was perfect! 7 hour induction. I think the process was so wonderful as I was in great shape! I was working with a trainer 4 times a week and eating a healthy diet! Fun is that at every pediatric visit I would tell the doctor I kept her alive for another visit. It was a running joke. My daughter is 18 now and healthy and happy! 41 year olds can have a healthy pregnancy, delivery and child birth.

I waited around to meet the right man and now I am in menopause. I can't have kids unless I adopt. I wanted my own child.

Her joke about trying to have a baby made me laugh. I always thought it was weird for my mom to say she wants us to have another. I’m like ewwwww she’s encouraging us to “do it” often😂 But on a serious note. My husband and I struggled for many years. To anyone having a hard time I want you to know to continue to have faith. I had two daughters after my struggle. One with the help of drugs and the other was a complete shock. All natural when I thought it was impossible.

My husband and I have two boys. When they were young, the days were long and the years were short. Now they are both college aged and are easily the most meaningful and rewarding part of our lives (next to our relationship with Jesus). They are decent, nice people and we are so blessed that God chose us for them. Having children is really hard when they are small, but the older they get, it gets easier. You won't regret it. If they are raised properly, they will bring you more joy than you could ever have imagined. Congratulations.

Thank you for sharing your experience. My husband and I got married at 30yrs old. We were in agreement- no kids. We love kids but we personally didn’t want to have children. I lost my mom just two years before my marriage. 3 1/2 years into my marriage, 5 years after my mom died, I woke up one morning thinking about how much I loved her and how much I missed saying “mom” and the love behind me calling her that. I then realized I didn’t want to live my life with never hearing that word “mom” said to me! The love that is within that word is overwhelming. I loved my mom so much and I then realized that the connection I had with her was something I didn’t understand until that moment. That connection we have with our parents is never-ending. We can remarry if we lose a mate, but who is able to replace our mom or dad? No one! That’s when I knew that I wanted to have children and that having them would be a blessing I didn’t deserve, but needed and more importantly, wanted. Hey, it’s not easy being a parent by no means. And truly no one should ever guilt someone into having children. It is a very personal decision. The fact that you didn’t rush into it shows great wisdom on you and your husband’s part. You both will enjoy parenthood with all its ups and downs. My boys are now 18 & 15 years old and I swear to you I fall deeper in love with them with every passing day! I wish you and your husband all the best. Enjoy each day of your journey. It’s precious and it flies by. Much love to you both ❤

I had my first three children before turning 28 and then unexpectedly welcomed a baby at 37. My mom had me when she was 42, and I disliked when people mistook her for my grandma. Now, with my older kids grown, we often hear that we look like siblings, which I find amusing. However, I find the greatest joy in parenting my youngest. Age has brought maturity, patience, and resilience, allowing me to overcome childhood trauma. My marriage is now stronger and less chaotic. While there's a tinge of guilt regarding my oldest, I like being a young mom and we have a great relationship but being an “older” mom is the best 😊

Thank you for highlighting the part about not making plans and God giving us the babies we NEED rather than our “dream child.” It’s helping me to cool it with the unrealistic expectations and to just take “baby steps” at a time lol with making plans and going by how I feel rather than exhaust myself. I can’t believe this is happening, but at the same time I can because last year God was preparing my heart for it. I’m so excited for our little one. 🙌❤️🤰

I'm excited for you Hun. I'm a 67 year old new great grandmother now. I found the Green Store. It is a toy store where their toys are made from recycled milk jugs. The colors are made from soy. This means they are safe for children to put into their mouth. The tea set can be used like real tea sets. I also bought a small wagon, so cute. My Granddaughter uses diapers and clothing made from bamboo. They are so soft.

I had my 1st kid at age 24…I had my last (of four) kids at age 42, because God spoke to me about it (His idea but my choice). We stepped out in faith and never regretted it. Meanwhile I’ve had a successful career as a TV news producer, writer, and on-air talent. It’s all by faith, for sure. Glad you are going for it in spite of it all! Great decision and that 4th child of ours is now 25, and one of our best friends and greatest blessings!🙏🏼

I will be turning 40 next year and part of the reason why I haven’t had kids is that as a woman I feel we sacrifice more than a man to have kids. Don’t get me wrong, I love kids, but I know that my life will change drastically if I decide to have kids. I have worked so hard to get to where I am professionally and I have never been sure that I want kids. I’m at a point in my life where I am also running out of time biologically, if I do want to have kids, so we this thought is crossing my mind more and more. I’m still unsure but it was so interesting to see what you went through with your decision to have kids. Thanks for sharing!

Ladies if you feel this way def. Don't have kids. When I had my kids I didn't want to go back to work. There is something in you that wants to be there for every moment everyday. If you are married become a house wife take care of your kids, home, and husband. If you want to have kids and just take them to daycare don't have them. We all know if we were asked when we were kids would you rather have a stay at home mom or daycare you would choose the MOM or DAD. Stay at home dad works too!!

And not that I'm married to the love of my life, too much of a risk for me to have his child, which would have been so wonderful. He would make a great dad. If baby isn’t talking yet (I would guess he/she might be around seven months now) I would highly recommend learning some beneficial words in sign language. I did this with my youngest, words like up, down, hungry, thirsty, all done, all the things a little one might need to communicate. She was the least frustrated of my three children because she could communicate needs before she could articulate them. I believe in the depths of my souls that teaching her sign made all the difference in her young years.

My advice: when kids don’t get a phone that occupies all their time on social media before the age of 15, it encourages them to learn an instrument, poetry, another language, to write music, create art, etc. My 17 year-old daughter does most of the above 💪🏽🙏🏽
