Update: Hi everyone, a few users have highlighted that Skybox labs have changed from a free model to a paid one. I changed the title of this video to avoid making it misleading. Honestly when I used it, the tool was great so some of you may find it interesting to pay for it. Personally I find it ethically unfair to not propose at least a free plan given it's unlikely they paid for all the training data, but this is my opinion.

Thanks so much for this excellent tutorial. A great easy to understand explanation of how to make the skydome, and Blockadelabs is just mind-blowing lol. I swear I just made about a years worth of environments in one evening!!

Glad you liked it. They are improving their tools too so you can even direct the generation of the HDRI with shapes. I guess it will not really replace environment art but it will definitely help.

Hey, it's all explained at 1:40 make sure you have your pivot point set to active element then select all your bottom vertices, hold shift and click on that top vertex (that will make everything scale towards that vertex). Then you can scale on the z axis by pressing S and Z. Hope that helps

██It's good but very close, you can see the curve. It looks like the fisheye lens that NASA uses all the time as a standard so that it seems like you can see the curvature of the Earth like in the glass of concave airplanes.

Hey I have a question, it's not the same to set the image to a enviroment texture? why is the dome?

Hey 👋, it's not quite the same. If you set this texture as your world texture, it will basically be dynamic. Which means if you zoom back or in, the background will not move. Also it doesn't work for the floor projection. In some ways setting it as a world texture is more realistic, but you see how in anime sometimes the background moves really fast, I feel that's easier to manage with the dome. Although there must be some applications where the world environment is better than the dome. My advice is try both and depending on what you are trying to do, pick the option that fits your needs. I should have explained it in the video so thanks for asking 🤜🤛

Update: it appears that Blockade labs made some changes in their app. It is still possible to generate free assets but it now prints a watermark (which you have to pay to remove). I am myself a little disappointed in this change. A suggestion would be to use Photoshop for additional edits to remove the watermark.

You need to make sure your lights are inside the sphere. Also disable shadows for the sphere (maybe that will help).
