    I’ve made follow-up videos to this in the past, but the basic process is when digitizing the drawing, the colored lines are separated onto its own layer and then you just paint over it. Check out the channel NICCA Ch., they have a playlist on their channel of how to do this in Clip Studio Paint, so you should be able to translate that to any program.

    You can also use diffrent colors to shade in animation aswell! I usually draw the shadow with the shading color and then just fill that color in. It's very convinient for me but i have to plan my pallets XD

  • @SpywisMindPalaceAnimations

    I’ve answered this in a TikTok, but during the layout/1st key step, you don’t have to draw every single frame, especially for parts that do not move. You’ll see this a lot especially with looping motion, where part of the animation stays still while another part moves. That way, the next animator knows which parts to draw that are or are not moving for those frames.

    It’s a long-standing meme in the art community that if you shade *everything* with purple, then you’re an “amateur artist”, same with the idea that “amateurs only shade with black”. In reality, that bit of gatekeeping shows up less and less, so it was more of a meme for the older gen artists that follow me (I’m old, haha)

    I am confused about something, as a solo animator why would you need all this colour code? Wouldn't it make the work redundant and waste you your time since only you, are managing all the process? Please it's a genuine question

  • @SpywisMindPalaceAnimations

    @SpywisMindPalaceAnimations

    6 ай бұрын

    I’ll make this as simple as possible for you : 1) If I skip a few steps and go straight to the “final results”, but then realize that I made major mistakes in anatomy or timing, then I would have to go back and redo my work all over again, and sometimes this takes even MORE work, and MORE time to fix. Better to just do a rough pass, fix mistakes ahead of time, and then you will have a better finished animation. This is quite literally how anime studios and even western animation studios ensure quality control. 2) If I am familiar with, and have personally animated my way through the entire animated production pipeline, then in the future, when I am teaching new team members, I am able to oversee every part of the process because I was once in their shoes. Plus, as a Director, you SHOULD be familiar with every part of the process. This is not optional, there have been multiple in the anime projects that have failed simply because the Director did not understand parts of the process. You’re assuming that this is wasting time, but in actuality, I am not only working faster this way, but my animations turn out way better, and I am gaining the necessary skills to run my indie studio.
