Animation PreProduction - Adobe After Effects tutorial
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Before you make awesome animation you must plan awesome animation, and this is how. We talk briefly about the steps for organizing and honing your project from script, A/V Script, storyboard, and animatic. Along the way all the crap should be filtered out before you waste time making bad motion graphics.
If you have any questions just let me know in the comments.

This helps me even seven years later. Thanks
Great! For self taught guys like me (not "self" taught, actually. Guys like you are the teachers) this is a really useful tutorial. Not many animators show you how to think and plan things before the animation process, so thank you, Evan. Have a good day.
this is very helpful actually, I've seen many preproduction tutorial that's soo complex/hard to understand, thanks (y)

clearly all you need is a sharpie and a notebook :)
Your stuff is always awesome and informative, man. And your humor makes it much easier to digest than dry tutorials. Keep 'em coming. By the way, do you use Element 3D or Cinema4D (lite) much/at all ?

I don't do much in 3d to be honest. I tend to skew more to 2d and flat style. Also I try to avoid 3rd party plugins that many people won't have access too. Now that C4D is included though I might start talking a bit about that down the road.
What I do on C4D is barely manage to launch it. Anything you do - absolute bare minimum basics - will delight a lot of people. Maybe just some of the smallest ways we 'have' to use it it some cases in an AE workflow. Fingers crossed. You rock !
Great tutorial man. I'm actually in preproduction for my live action short film and this really helped to put things in perspective.
Yes! Very true. Good pre-production plan is often necessary and time-saving
Thanks for posting.
Dude. This was so helpful. Thank you for all of the stellar videos you're making!
Great vid!
This was so helpful! Thank you!
wow, that's really helpful. Thank you!
Man your tutorials are really great! Thanks
This doesn't suck. Very helpful and informative.
Thanks for pointing out I'm working arse about face! Learning AE and my workflow is I try to come up with a story after I figured out a new animation technique!
Great tutorial mate
Thanks man. This'll help a lot as I make more videos.. because I'm about to ramp up my style, quality and content.. so its organization will be paramount.
Good stuff. Great channel - thanks Evan
It's very useful :D and this video is very awesome ;)
Hey man, I used to do just storyboards but I'd struggle with other elements of pre-comp. This really helped me out, not just for AE, but film design and general thinking. I've been watching your videos while learning AE and you earnt yourself a new sub! :D Do you do tutorials based on comments? Becuase I could use your help.
I like the way you talk!
Thank you, man! Very useful for me
Great tutorial! I am sharing this with my team so that they can be familiar with the animation per-production process. Thank you!
very helpful, a nice change.
Insightful
thanx Evan.
I love this! always been looking something like this man..by the way..any chance you can show us how you do your step for your real project to 2 views? one view where u show what u write in your script and other view where you really making up according to what u plan..might be very helpful to others too!
-This isn't sucks ;)- This is useful for me, because i'm always do all work in AE, and now i'm try planning and only then animate. (sorry for my bad english).

DesignerMix Of course :) do it! I have heard that the KZreadrs get some extra money from every comment bellow their videos. But I am not 100% sure about it and another thing is that Evan doesn't even have to be paid from KZread (yet).

Should I be baked for this? I think I need to be baked for this...
I hope we do get to see some C4D from you. I wait with bated breath. Cheers.

Well I'll be the first to admit C4D doesn't come into my regular workflow so I can't promise what I do in it will blow any minds. I'm a 2d man mostly.
Hi, I love your videos, they help me so much! Do you know any kind of way that i could render in ae cs4 with a good format, without being a heavy file?
@ECAbrams
10 жыл бұрын
render an h.264 or an mp4 with h.264 codec perhaps?
@matiilup
10 жыл бұрын
ECAbrams Yes, it works! but it changes the tone of color of the videos D: * heavy breathing *
@ECAbrams

matiilup that's usually how compression works. You can have a small file or high quality but not both at the same time. The colour space of h.264 is good enough for youtube videos though so long as your bitrate and colour channels are high enough.
Great overview. Any tutorials about organizing/structuring large AE projects?

yeah i've got one in the works.
man, my AE wont work because of quicktime errors and i cant use what i learn in your videos anymore :c
@ECAbrams

sounds like a good time to uninstall quicktime and reinstall it?
@tiedie

done that, plus uninstalled my AE and anti-virus

ECAbrams Whoah. Losing a viewer over quicktime. What a way to go.

I've encountered a lot of Quicktime Server errors... I discovered it was conflicting codecs... you could give uninstalling any additional codec packs you have and try again? - Just a thought.
Thanks for laying that out. I am struggling with an Ad I need to make for my NYC trip, and this will help structure my production of it better. Now, you want to give me the idea part of what I want to put in it? Besides NYC pics/video. My words are failing me this week :(
@ECAbrams
10 жыл бұрын
What else needs to be in there? Map, photos, videos, that's a trip. Though videos of what and photos of what is another matter. Explosions? Infographics of fun vs milage? An odometer? A speedometer? A pedometer? The statue of liberty fighting king kong? Boobs? Butts? I don't know, I don't go on trips.

LOL... I love some of those ideas. I didn't expect you would actually respond. Speaking of boobs, did you know that it is LEGAL for a woman to go completely topless in public in NYC? As long as it is not for commercial use. You are free to interpret that as you wish. I might stick a map in there, that would probably be good. I think you need to get out of your no trip slump and go on this one. ;) Check it out! www.letsgoroadtrippin.com/2/post/2014/01/explore-nyc.html
i love motion graphics BUT OMG it takes alot time to come up with something worth watching and lonnnnng hours working on the same project and people need to know that a clip of 2-3 mins takes weeks and sometimes months (if youre trying to put 3d in it like me)
@ECAbrams
10 жыл бұрын
What kinds of things are taking months? I suppose if someone is fine to be billed for the hours it's more power to you but it seems like there must be faster methods.
@refaatajmi

well 90% of my work is done in cinema 4d and i try to mix 2d and 3d for most of my work and before Cineware it was hard but mostly time consuming and then add the render time and may be it takes more time for me because i track live footage but overall stll takes alot of time, And i really hoped that were better and faster methods but there isn't .
About the storyboarding part, what if you are terrible at drawing like me? BTW, I wouldn't mind watching a tutorial of you taking LSD until you fall down in a drooling mess. That would possibly be your highest viewed video yet.

this suck XD not true thanks
Stop lying. I know you're a genius and you don't do any of that stuff. You just turn on the computer, light up AE and pump out a brilliant animation without any forethought. Why are you trying to slow us down and confuse us with using pens and paper and all this extra stuff? Shame on you Evan, Shame!
