Animation Mentor Student Showcase Fall 2007

Фильм және анимация

Welcome to the 3rd installment of our Student Showcase Reel to date. We here at Animation Mentor feel so proud of the work that has gone into this reel. 100% student created, 100% solo efforts. Each one of these shots was created by one student alone, though the shots could not have been completed without the support of our incredible student body and the leading industry animators that mentor their work.

@mrgiloz This is our proprietary rig that was created for the use of our students here at Animation Mentor. We do not teach rigging or modeling here, instead we focus on the art and craft of animation.

the reason that the textures are complicated is because the models are provided to the students. this school focuses 150% on the actual ART OF ANIMATION. Its a really amazing program... I wish I could take it :(

I'd so love to take part in this course, looks absolutely fabulous. I'm not very experienced with Maya though at the moment, so looks like I gotta teach myself before I even consider this.

I'm in animation school, and we use Maya. I haven't seen any schools that invent their own programs, especially when the ones that students will be using in the industry are readily available.

Yeah, the song is amazing. I've been trying to find out if the song for the first half is made FOR the reel or if there is an album of that type of music somewhere. If anyone knows, PLEASE let me know. I just love it.

I think Carlos Baena does the music. He is one of the founders of AM. Unfortunately, he probably doesn't release it.

After doing some digging, it turns out you're right, it is Carols Baena. Thanks for the answer. I'm gonna try emailing him later and see if he'll post it on his site. He has other music he created on there.

@mikasaka Hi! We do not require any knowledge of Maya for our admitted students. We just want to see if you have the passion and drive to become an animator. We offer a Maya Springboard class to admitted students that need a little extra boost in Maya.

WOW. Did the students do the modeling (of the objects besides the rigs), texturing, and lighting in addition to the animation? How many hours a week did students work on these projects? Dang they're good.

  • @didjargo

Most likely they use either Maya or 3D Studio Max or both. Not suprising that the big companies would use the same software concidering that those ones are the industry standards.

I've really been considering going to your school, but my mom and I are concerned about it being an online school, that the hiring rate wouldn't be very high. :

@StudioVibe I've read up a lot about animation mentor. I believe the hiring rate is somewhere between 70 and 80%, maybe even higher. I've signed up for classes this coming January. I already took their Maya Springboard course and find the program to be amazing. Read up on it a bit more, do your research. Honestly, in my opinion, the students' demo reels I've seen are superior to many other schools' I've looked at.

I've heard of those but never used them, so I can't really comment... but you should try Maya. It's pretty much the standard for a lot of the high-end stuff and I know you can stumble across a copy of it floating around the web somewhere. Or try 3D Studio Max, its a lot like maya and many people swear by it. I'm not such a big fan of it myself, though.
