Animated map: all earthquakes of the past 15 years

Ғылым және технология

This animated map created from the NOAA, NWS, and PTWC shows every recorded earthquake in chronological order from January 1, 2001 to December 31, 2015. The size of the circle shows the magnitude of the earthquakes in relation to each other. The color represents the earthquake depth.

    in southeast asia, earthquake is life. we have earthquakes everyday according to our govt research agency but most of these earthquakes are not too felt. it is pretty much common for a friend to ask "have you felt the earthquake today?", "nope, when was it?"

    True, having very active seismic areas like new zealand and alaska at the edges of the map is not great design. Splitting the ring of fire into opposite sides of the map is not great for visualization. This is better.

    The February 2008 Earthquake Lincolnshire in the UK ranged from 4.6 to 5.2 I was 70 miles from the epicenter but I felt that one shake everything in the house, parents never felt it because of deep sleep. very unusual for us to get seismic activity of over 4 but I still remember it to this day.

    @xyzct yes, I read about that. However, in comparison the Chilean earthquake 1960 killed under 10k. The Indian Ocean earth 2004 killed well over 225k. By some comparisons it was just as strong as the Chilean. The Indian Ocean EQK produced massive tsunamis, I still remember the news and videos showing the waves coming in devouring everything in their path.

    Too late in the game to research now probably, but if you find some time search for the data NASA has on the effects earthquakes have on the Earth's tilt. The big earthquakes, larger than 8.7 or so, knock the Earths tilt off a few inches. Geologist look at earthquakes as individual events, but there's a guy at NASA that has to look at the tilt for all the rocket science stuff they do. He noticed the shift after every big earthquake, (it moves back after time - we live on a big gyroscope). A few inches doesn't seem like much, but a line of water around the Earth's circumference a few inches wide is a pretty large area. This will heat up and cause weather pattern changes. Extra credit, but be careful - it could run counter to political science.

    I've been to Indonesia in 2015 & 2018. I visited Indonesia with the aim of exploring and adventuring, not for vacation or honeymoon. However, I have not explored Indonesia 100% because it is vast and also very diverse. Each region in Indonesia has different tourist or natural attractions, as if entering a different dimension. It's hard to explain, the point is when you go to Indonesia, what you visit with other regions in Indonesia is definitely different. What made me so interested in Indonesia? The answer is nature, because nature in Indonesia has very clear differences in each region. Some even look strange, unique and absurd and there are lots of hidden places to explore. For me, Indonesia is very suitable to be used as a place for adventure, explorers and get unexpected experiences. My personal conclusion about Indonesia : Indonesia is like a very beautiful Queen, very graceful, very charming, very attractive, very stunning and very cool. However, keep in mind that although the Queen almost looks perfect, on the other hand the Queen also has a dangerous nature (Many natural disasters in Indonesia have been recorded internationally and even get the title of the most frequent and the most violent, Queen appears completely different from the others). When the Queen is asleep, the Queen looks extraordinary and fun to approach but if the Queen wakes up from her sleep, it is certain that there will be a sign of danger because the Queen is in a tantrum. Note : Although Queen often tantrums when she wakes up from her sleep, this is what made me fall in love because of her very different figure. Be careful with the forces of nature because we don't know when and where the Queen rages. Because if the Queen has gone berserk then she doesn't know tourists or locals. I can only hope that the Queen doesn't run amok and doesn't harm locals or tourists. Amen. 🙏 Every tourist will have a different experience when visiting Queen, The Queen's desire to go berserk is also an adventure, so I want to return to being beside the Queen because the Queen has everything (Super mega diversity) to gain experience and knowledge that is unusual for a tourist like me. Indonesia is more towards the category of tourist attractions for adventure and exploration. Not just for a honeymoon or relaxing because you will definitely lose something unique, strange, interesting and unreasonable in Indonesia as an experience and learning. It was the experience I felt. When you have explored several adventures in Indonesia be it volcanoes, waterfalls, rivers, lakes, jungles, caves and etc. (it's up to their own version, because there are too many to explore), although you will be tired but it is very satisfying and enjoyable. pleasant. of course get a different experience so that your experience can be told like mine. It should be noted that not all tourists who venture to Indonesia are successful, there are also those who fail miserably because of the act of the queen who woke up from her sleep. What I mean is that the Queen Mother Earth in Indonesia is very beautiful, graceful, attractive and charming but very dangerous when the Queen Mother Earth in Indonesia wakes up from her sleep. Well like that, because it's hard for me to explain. Not in the sense of being human, but the picture is that in Indonesia there is "HORAKTHY" (The Queen). I love Indonesia ❤️ (Mysterious Queen Land).

    In Chile we consider them as earthquakes only if they are of magnitude over 7.5 or 8.0 Richter, all the other telluric movements we consider only as small tremors hahaha And when the earth shakes the first thing we do is try to calculate the magnitude and the place of the epicenter.

  • @MariaMartinez-researcher

    @MariaMartinez-researcher

    2 ай бұрын

    Nope. The first thing we do is grabbing the TV. Then we say, "ya va a pasar, ya va a pasar." When it ends, we say, "esto tiene que haber sido terremoto en otra parte." Only then we calculate magnitude and epicenter. Usually, correctly. 🇨🇱💪

    So I'd like to see if that can be sped up so fast that it actually makes a pulse line. If it does, it will be 4 times around before it begins from the start. And then you can see the tilt and wobble of the earth, and the adjustment we are making and how to anticipate it. :-) . If you want to know ask me in person, I'm not that difficult to find. You have the equipment, I know what to look for.

    Part of the issue with using this data for that, is that detection has improved rapidly over the last couple decades, as well as our ability to place more remote seismometers and detect earthquakes that no one would have felt previously. The sheer number of new detectors over the last few decades basically means that it would look like there was a huge increase in the number of earthquakes, when really it's only an increase in the number of *detected* earthquakes (at least without trying to statistically control for increased detection rates when making your analysis).

I was having a dream that everything was shaking, and then i woke up. Everything WAS shaking. I heard something smash in the kitchen, and i hoped it wasn't one of Grandpa's antique plates. Some think as science goes that Earth is enlarging. Just because the plates look as if it was all dry land parts that might separate. As water comes between the separated areas, it does seem that way. But what of the plates between the the land mass and separated land?

    Visually, this is easier to process at 0.25x speed. The audio is intolerable at that point, so adjust that down to nothing. Occasionally, you may see an earthquake progression--in other words, one earthquake releases tension, then a nearby area experiences increased strain because of this and eventually has an earthquake, etc. That wasn't obvious at normal speed.

    It was surprising that there are few earthquakes in the Himalayas, where the crust collides... How did you feel when you saw the world? Like Chile or Japan, there are many huge earthquakes in places where the crust is sliding! ! If we separate volcanic earthquakes and earthquakes caused by crustal movements, it seems that there will be something different.

    In Japan, you don't need to evacuate when an earthquake occurs. You wanna know Why? The reason is that buildings in Japan are enough strong for an earthquake. (but if you live by sea you must evacuate)
