The show was very ahead of it's time in featuring young people blaming all their problems on Boomers.

One of the most interesting tidbits I heard about the series, was that Omori Kinuko's (Priss's Seiyu) singing contract for the series had expired after ep 6, so the original plan was to kill Priss off in Episode 7 and replace her on the team with Vision

Bubblegum Crisis 2024 is pretty solid also. Wish they did a modern series for it.

Another review I watched pulled up a thing from the Asu e Touchdown music video. Priss was a gang member whos boyfriend was killed by a boomer and the crime never got solved because of genoms corruption. That's why she hates boomers. Nene and lina there's fuck all explanation for them tho.

If I recall, the music video for Asu e Touchdown (Touchdown to Tomorrow) shows Nene getting recruited by Sylvia for successfully hacking into a system she set up to to find the most talented hacker. Linna is also seen in the video seemingly getting rejected for a prestigious dance company but being recruited by Sylvia probably for her graceful athletic ability which was probably needed for the style of suit she wears. You may note in episode 8 that Linna is the most agile and coordinated of the team based on her combat simulator score and pulls off the most acrobatic moves compared to the others. Her physical talents and gracefullness probably caught Sylvia's eye when she was looking for someone who could handle the ribbon weapons Linna's suit has. It would have been nice to have each one get a more fleshed out background story. It looks based on the clips in the video that they had some ideas of what the origin stories would be but due to legal troubles, weren't able to fully develop the ideas.

A show that manages to succeed primarily on style over substance. Shame we'll never get an ending true to episodes 1-7. Crash is the closest thing we'll get to conclusion, but it feels like a different animal to Crisis. Bubblegum Crisis 2024 is a reboot. I can't stand it.

Tokyo 2040, even though it had a lot of interesting ideas, I will never forgive it for the total emasculation of Sylia's role in the Knight Sabers. She basically went from The Leader and developer of the Hardsuits in the OVA series, to PTSD Eye Candy in 2040

I love the metaphor that they were warning us that Boomers will come to us in the guise of aiding the world but are actually monsters in disguise. That knowing this isn't enough, because they're also impossibly strong and their power almost unreachable. They don't offer an answer, but understand it's something we will have to face, while also living day by day in the world they've taken from us. It's as cyberpunk as it gets, because it came true.

Bubblegum is a genre of pop/rock music that was popularized in part by several pre-fab cartoon/kids show bands like the Archies or Banana Splits or was simply featured in cartoons (the songs in the original Scooby Doo were bubblegum); it was also an influence on early punk, glam, and hair metal (Ramones, Sweet, etc). I've never been able to confirm that's where Bubblegum Crisis got its name, but it seems pretty likely, especially when J-pop (especially idol music) is pretty similar in theme and tone.
