You don’t know how shocked I was logging into AJPW and seeing and in app purchase loot box on the side of my screen. All lootbox items are just cheap reskins to get any 5-8 year old begging their parents to buy it for you. Same with the crazy new IAP shop. AJPW has always had an IAP shop that was way too accessible for children, and my idiot 6 Y/0 ipad baby brain decided “let’s buy like 40 of these lol”, and you cant try to insist that’s not intentional. Their “parental protection” is just basic multiplication problems they start teaching you in 1st grade, sometimes kindergarten. This is just scraping the surface. And yes, while I do very much agree AJ Classic should loosen up the membership restrictions a bit rather than just throw random mechanics locked behind paywalls like AJPW does, I still just personally prefer it for being the game that it is. I play both games, keep in mind.

I prefer classic, mostly because the community seems nicer. People host parties, roleplays are fun, and i really appreciated all my buddies on ajc. Unfortunately i cant play it anymore, due to my PC going kaboom🔥😔 Edit: everyone in the replies, please stop. I understand if you like a game more, but it's just my opinion. Please respect my opinion for AJC. I just prefer it better 😥

The animaljam classic community is VERY toxic. It's quite sad how some of these rarer people treat the ones who aren't as rare like they're trash. For example, just a few days ago, I was on my backup when I was trying to trade for someone's long spike. I traded a decent variety of some den betas and wrists. So this person had been originally wanting just den betas, so of course they declined and said, "Sorry, I'm only looking for dbs!" So then I had logged onto my main, which had more items and then soon after I got into the same sever as my backup, I had to witness an arctic wolf that had got involved said, "You people are too poor to trade for longs," while the person I had just traded on my backup said "fr". It was just upsetting because not everyone has rare items like you, so why be so toxic? I had then replied to them both, saying, "typical toxic rare people," and before they could respond, I left the server. This just only proves that the community isn't as "nice" like you described, and it's also sad to see the games downfall. 😔💔 Can't believe a childhood game I grew up with became so toxic.

i am mainly an ajpw jammer, the graphics are nice as well as the animations, everything is clear. But classic gives off such a nostalgic vibe with the pixels, i must say classic has better options with parties-dens-animals, and much more but i’m too lazy to put much thought in that.

Classic all the way, I can just never get used to the new look and new randoms items in play wild. But I am glad that new generations will be able to play this new animaljam version

This is an easy one for me, but AJ classic, because that's the game I grew up on. I started playing in 2014/2015 and it brings back so many memories. I even had an AJ yt channel from early 2016, those were good days. I'm 19 now and don't play either, but sometimes every once in a while I'll log onto AJ classic just to feel the memories again

I prefer AJ Classic since that's the one I grew up on since they had the Alphas as loading screens and was on browser, and I prefer the adventures and games on Classic since there are more games on Classic that feel more entertaining than AJPW's games, and there's more stuff for players that don't want to socialize with others to do in the game in Classic as well. Play Wild has features I like such as the pet care system and making your own music and items, but I prefer Classic due to my nostalgia and also cuz I am not a very social player, so it makes it hard for me to stay on PW for long because it seems most of the features are for socializing or money, while Classic I can just. Go on 1-person adventures, go into empty servers and just hang out by myself without pressure of being around people. Idk but those are my reasons as someone with anxiety who struggles to socialize, even online.

personally I prefer classic because of how impressive it is that it’s not being sufficiently supported unlike ajpw but STILL taking quite a few of the categories, and it’s what I grew up with as well

1:36, sorry but this is incorrect, the Animal Jam classic sprites are not pixel art and they aren’t animated frame by frame. The AJC sprites, like AJ, are 3D. The low resolution of them and the snappy way they move is because they aren’t in engine 3D sprites like AJ ones are. They’re similar to sprites of Donkey Kong Country, where the characters are animated in 3D and then that animation is exported from multiple different angles and implemented in the game. Technically speaking, they are 2D but because flash ofc doesn’t support 3D engines, so the next best thing would be making the 3D animations and then importing them as 2d sprites.

Personally, I really love both. I mainly play play wild, since it’s easier to access on my phone, I know how the trading system works, and it’s much easier being a non member. I recently started playing AJC more tho, and I have to say, the individual animations on items is wonderful, as well as the animation in general. It seems much less lazily done than AJPW- I love both games though, they’ll always be my favourites.

I agree, it's difficult to do anything as a non-member in AJ Classic. I really like how PW runs and it's an overall better experience; the only thing classic takes is the nostalgic factor.

I like Classic more. I like the artstyle more, the adventures, and the mini games are more challenging in a way I appreciate more. I also agree with the tail items! Play Wild does have more features than Classic, but I believe that's because they had to stop updating it due to flash shutting down and making it harder to add new things. I also prefer Balloosh to Mesoterra

I think the one thing that kills classic for me comes in 1 word Membership A lot of the positives you mentioned for classic are locked behind membership and if you’re out of money you’re screwed Wanna get the newest animal Membership Wanna go on a new adventure Membership Wanna send a gift to you’re friend Membership Wanna send something in the jammer walls Membership Everything is so reliant on membership not to mention tha once it’s up all you’re membership animals and dens are reset to being plain old dens Meanwhile play wilds only pay to win is the super box witch is bad on its own but at least you can ignore it and play the full game Also anteater do give PW 100+ points anyways so yeah play wild to me is superior

Definitely prefer Animal Jam, nostalgic and I have real challenges to do there compared to Play Wild. I decided, if I was gonna return to Animal Jam, I would have goals.

I generally prefer Play Wild mainly because I've never really gotten too invested into Classic when I played it on Puffin before May 2020. I think was mainly because I basically had to start over when I played Classic for the first time. I guess if I had more time to play Classic, I could have been able to get used to the controls and have fun.

Hi Kjj! I am so glad you are doing at least a tad bit better, I know from experience that people may need some time, but they'll always keep going in life. Hope you learn to cope with the trauma! (it's been 8 years and I'm still learning to cope, so I understand FULLY!)

I say it depends on my mood: -AJ classic is for socialising because most of us have played for years and are teens, fair trades, fashion shows, adventures, seasonal, underwater, PENGUINS!!! etc -play wild is for when you wanna build up in the game, mini games, interiori design, having goals such as finishing an armour set, more non membership friendly

I can agree with some of your views, however I much prefer play wild. I think it offers a lot more to non members than classic does. Personally I'm a member and I don't care at all for the superboxes. If a superbox has an item I want I can just trade for it or buy it with sapphires. I also like the fact that non members can use the my shop feature in play wild unlike classic. It makes it much more easier for new players (or old players who returned after years of not playing) to gain sapphires, buy rares or membership with them. I also love the "free membership" aka the option to get membership with sapphires that ajpw offers. I wish classic did the same with diamonds...

It's really hard to choose a "better version" because one is on mobile and one is on computer. Honestly, since classic is my childhood I still completely love classic.

i think ajc is better, i prefer the community and its more ‘lore based’ than play wild, this is because of the adventures and i also have massive nostalgia from it

I definitely prefer AJPW, but not because it’s a better game, it’s just because it was the game I grew up with and the game that has amazing memories attached to it. I’ve also barely played AJC because I don’t have a computer, so I do have a huge bios to AJPW. I prefer AJPW because of the memories. I remember finding it on the app store and playing it for the first time with my sister. I didn’t know anything, about the game, there was so much to explore and find out, so much to do, so many mini games to play. It was such an amazing and exiting time as a new jammer, I’ll always remember and cherish those memories. AJPW was and is such a huge part of my life, it’s more than a fun game to me now, it’s a game that holds my best memories. AJC however I only found out about when I became obsessed with AJ and did loads of research on it. I have not attachment to it, where as AJPW I do so for me AJPW would easily win against AJC in which game is better. I have to say though, I absolutely love the adventures in AJC, I love finding out more AJ lore and stuff.

Yes!!! I was waiting for someone to mention it! The aj Classic storyline and adventure phantom world was one of the biggest memories I have of early animal jam when I was younger. It was one aspect of the game that led to me checking out aj play wild to see if they carried over those cool lore story aspect of the game to the “new version” so I could play it on mobile but there is almost no adventure in aj play wild wich was really dissapointing :(. And I really hope they bring it back.

I would love for the Sky High minigame to come to Play Wild!

I grew up with classic and have been playing since at least 2012. It kinda makes me feel old that a game I grew up playing now has 'Classic' as a subtitle. I hold it close to my heart though. That being said, with Play Wild being out, AJC feels like...a relic, more than anything. I still love it, but there's just not much reason to go back to it when PW has so much more to offer aside from nostalgia.

Both are different in their own ways. But both will always help me in one major way: an escape and to help me relax and entertain me

I prefer play wild. It has better updates, and wild works puts more attention into it. I love both games, but you don’t need a membership to breath in AJPW, but you do in classic. Also, AJPW is more polished. Both games are so fun though!

I Play both quite often, and while I will always hold Animal Jam classic dear to me sense that’s what I grew up on, I have found myself enjoying a lot of aspects of Play Wild. I personally like the trading in Play Wild better. But the adventures in Classic have always kept me entertained. It really does depend on what I’m in the mood for. Trading is so much more hard now on Classic with the lack of people making items more scare than before, being recently hacked I’ve lost a lot of my worth and it’s hard to build up. While Play Wild is a lot easier. Honestly the are both amazing games that I love dearly. Definitely go try out both if you haven’t already!

I like both, but ajc will always be my favorite. ❤

I prefer animal jam play wild, i prefer 3d models then 2d models, but maybe that's just me, and i also still like classic since it has features that play wild doesn't have like adventures, jam-a-grams gifting thing, jammer walls etc. But, most of the features are member only which sometimes could be annoying, since not everyone can buy membership, while play wild still had member features but non members still can enjoy the game because not all the features are locked. But, i really like play wild because there are packs, missions, etc. And i like classic because classic has jam-a-gram gifting, locking jam-a-grams, more minigames, etc. I'm not saying that classic is bad, but if classic got updates frequently, it could be oike play wild or better then play wild! i just personally prefer play wild, maybe that's because i haven't played much. Whatever game you play, i hope you have fun! 😁

i used to prefer classic, but honestly i like play wild more. i like the old classic items. there's a lot more to do in play wild. also not everything in play wild behind a membership paywall

I gotta go with Classic just due to my Connection with it since 2011/2012. Even past the nostalgia factor I still feel Classic leads on the Style, Community, and even certain gameplay elements despite the lack of recent updates. *First and certainly foremost*, I can not stand the look of play wild. Upon its release I tried it out and quit almost immediately because I couldn't get over the terrible 3D models and the lack of familiar elements. Older classic players will remember this was promoted as an Animal Jam experience for younger players, and the style just amplified it. It was a cheap mobile game for the younger generation and most classic players were NOT into it. Past just how the game looked, it FUNDEMENTALLY changed core aspects of the game. The color system changed, the item system changed. Things that were super easy to grasp in Classic, were completely swapped in PW. Even years later when attempting to play PW, the style is just something that irks me. Wildworks struggles with 3D and I've even noticed it with Fer.al, there's a lack of skill and polish within the team, and they chalk it up to the "style" of the game. They've gotten better with recent updates. The newer animals don't look as garish as they did when the game first released, but they're far from the standards that Classic set. But that's what attracts the younger audience which I am not apart of, so I'm not the one to be complaining. *That leads into my second point*. Play Wild has a weird generational shift and its hard to get into for a longtime classic player. The playerbase is significantly younger which is a turn off for most older classic players, which I might add, is a good thing, we don't want grown ass adults forming parasocial relationships with younger players. The negative of that is it truly does feel like "Animal Jam for Toddlers". Even within the KZread community of AJPW you can see this shift. I see it in this comment section even. There's a level of maturity difference between the PW community and the classic community, and again, thats not a bad thing, it's solely the difference in age. The negative I will comment on is especially on videos like this, you can't debate with these kids. I mean I've seen cataclysmic meltdowns because someone bashed this game. When you're my age, coming from Classic, you're used to discourse between older teens and young adults, and there's a level of mutual respect no matter what your position is that simply doesn't exist within the PW community. Over the years those skills will come as these kids enter their late teens, but for now I mostly like to stay out of the PW fandom because there's no reasoning with them. *Lastly*, I do think despite the lack of a recent update, Animal Jam Classic still leads with actual gameplay. From going on silly little adventures, to hanging out at the plethora of parties, to even doing something as simple as filling out the journey book. These things exist in PW (besides the adventures), however they don't feel near as immersive as they do in Classic. Even our Arcade seems to have more life than PW. For a while our Art Studio beat theirs til their VERY recent update (Which Clark promised a big AJ update which I'm praying is a Masterpiece overhaul). PW does have more on us as far as gameplay is concerned, with PW getting the bulky updates while we get recolored items once every few weeks. There are a few arcade games I'm certainly jealous of, and I think the pet leveling and expeditions are fantastic, and I love the arcade challenges getting you sapphires (that's how I got myself the Legendary Eagle in Classic was solely through PW arcade games). However with the Style, Community, and Nostalgia factors of Classic, none of its worth it for me to play. Play Wild's only use for me as of 2023 is to get free Classic memberships. *Overall* I don't think any game is more valid than the other, they simply coexist in the same brand space. One community plays Classic and the other on PW, with next to no crossover between the two. What we prefer is pretty much just based on what we play. My response has more thought just because I watched the Original game through its first release, The first announcement of Play Wild, to the fall of Classic post Flash, and now stagnant growth in Classic, but with promises of a new future. I love the original and nothing will beat that for me

omg, i've never been aware of Play Wild. I don't remember when and why i stopped playing Animal Jam (i guess bc the natural changes of life :) ), but all i know i that i'm missing those times, it's a fantastic game period, i remember having fucking enjoyed it. I just discovered Play Wild yesterday and i thought it was an update from Animal Jam "classic".First i noticed that there wasn't the online option to join the game. OMG and when i entered Play Wild and didn't see the adventures, u had to see my face lol. But now that i found out that i can continue playing the original one it's a relief lit. Even i like the membership thing! I remember buying one, lol! i'm just crying! those times fk!

I really like AJpw it looks so good and I really like how u can make mb ( master blocks) and make your own item (Den item blueprints,outfit item blueprint) but I do wish AJpw had adventures just like in AJ classic. Thats also why I liked feral cus it had adventures. Idk this is not the topic but I do wish that AJpw had things that were both in feral and in AJ classic which is where u can customize your own animal which u may be thinking we already have that but I mean like use different ears and tails etc and being able to make your own fur pattern. And just like I said about that I wished and maybe others to to be able to customize your pet cus in AJ classic you can customize your own pet which I do wish we both can customize our own pets just like in AJ classic and customize your own creature like in feral and I guess AJ classic ( and reason I said “I guess AJ classic” is because u can chose different eyes). i honestly like how the cosmetics look on aj than ajpw, like how clothing items mold onto a different animals tail on aj. unlike ajpw, it looks weird and it's just... there.

I grew up off of classic and was hurt at first when they started sidelining my beloved game for this other thing. but years later I can respect the game ajpw has become, even if it meant the stagnation of a game I spent so fucking much of my childhood on. it had a good run and I can accept the fact it's time has come and gone. ajpw is indeed fun aswell I aunt even gonna lie it's an improvement in a low of ways

In my opinion, I like AJPW more mainly because of the features and the nostalgia. I actually remember playing animal jam classic before joining PW, so to me both will hold a very special place in my heart and there’s no competition imo❤️But since I played PW way more then Classic (I first joined Classic in 2017 or 2018 and PW in late 2018), its just a little better and I’m way more used to it. I love the Packs, my old friends, a little bit of trading, etc. Tho if Classic would start to get updates I would definitely check it out and play more!

i am letting out the tism because i can ramble about aj forever fr but i never get to do so (i hope the 0 people reading this comment enjoy) AJ classic graphics are way better in my opinion because they are easier on the eye and the animals have way more personality and the clothing flows way better because they are animated with the animal and have some physics to them and the dens and furniture also flow better because idk i like the collage kinda decorating system of the dens which make it easier to decorate for me . Also the dens and items in play wild have this gross dirty look to them because artists seem to be ass at 3d modeling but recently they have been looking a lot better so maybe they hired a better artist loool ... in my opinion the clothing items on play wild completely do not match the animal because they are not animated with the animal and its hard to match the colors unless you have the advanced color picker (aj classic has this problem too but there is way less items that you cant match) I like how in aj classic the players are in a different style to the terrain because its easily distinguishable and to me it feels a lot more satisfying to move around in the game for some reason bc of this.. I wish that aj classic did get the same features as play wild but i quite like aj classic because after i came back to the games after a long time i was definitely pushed away from ajpw because of how overwhelmed i was with the 1 million new features like my shop or the trading system change (i hate it its so akward because people in ajpw take trading way more seriously than aj classic and simply putting an offer for an item is taken too seriously and people get offended for wasting their time with a bad trade) but in aj classic you just send a trade and you arent forced to awkwardly x out of it when the person says no or keep on changing things until they finally accept or you have to awkwardly leave , this is why i never traded again on ajpw but i do a lot on aj classic. There is definitely pay to win more on ajc but i have like a million sapphires in ajpw because its quite easy to get them so i get membership with that 👍

i was revisiting animaljam classic for nostalgia purposes yesterday and a friend who was tagging along accidentally downloaded ajpw instead, so i grabbed it as well and we decided to play, me for the first time since. like. 2016 dead honest, man? LOOVE play wild, i'll need a little bit more time for a solidified opinion but there are so many fun little details i love, i really really hope they add adventures too, feel like being in 3d now will absolutely bring up that potential and fun factor (the latter being something that i feel is pretty lacking in adventures at times)

They each have they’re own features that make them way different from each other, in animal jam classic, the cons are the following: -giant paywall (need membership for everything) -laggy (for most ppl) It’s pros are: -MEMORIESSSS -adventures -games r great I feel that Play Wild is behind less of a paywall, allowing you to shops for sapphires and with sapphires u can buy membership for 600, less of a paywall, right? Anyway, it’s cons are: -the animals (there are lots of more animals that AJHQ can make but they just keep using the same models in different patterns/colors) It’s pros are: -there’s a lot to do -not behind a giant paywall I feel that they’re both equally tied. Animal Jam Classic got cut short meaning that we didn’t get any more updates after Play Wild, i feel like if AJPW didn’t exist/they worked on both of them equally, Animal Jam Classic would have a lot more to do. AJC was created in 2010, cut off in 2015, that’s 5 years of progress, meanwhile AJPW had 9, considering it was made in 2015. That’s 4 more years (a long time) i kind of prefer Animal Jam Classic but if we’re not being biased here then they’re tied, both great games overall

arguably the ajc economy is so much easier to keep up with since things dont change worth often and there arent new rares every 5 seconds, while ajpw worth goes wack every week not including party items and alphas release.

I like ajc much more, its easier to trade up in my experience (have gotten 7-8 clothing betas in a day) and the shops aren’t as obnoxious like..30k sapphires for a blackout spike or forest gauntlet will never not be weird to me. An i like how the wings and tails fit on the animals in aj classic, it clothes move as if they were a part of the animal, whereas on ajpw the clothes look kinda stiff and don’t fit on a lot of animals.

im a nm in aj classic and im worth 50 solids in nm items. but still, I think ajc is more pay to win, like AJHQ wanted it to be a money game. Ajc has a more active community too. But, ajpw has packs. Thinking that packs are inactive, id say ajc has a better fanbase, though I see most contests by AJHQ show ajpw players. I agree with kijjikon on the phantom dimension. A major problem in aj classic is the lag. also, ajhq works too hard on updating ajc. also, ajpw has a lot of updates. I like both games, but arc is better, because of the fanbase and adventures.

Fun Fact animal jam play wild was not meant to be a replacement for animal jam classic, it was only meant to be a spinoff version so they could get mobile players into the community. But im my personal opinion i prefer classic. play wild is so complex to figure out. the trading system is really hard to understand. At least classics system is in den betas and black longs which a cat could figure it out in 2 minutes. where as play wild you have "this is worth 2 forest gauntlets, this is worth 3 duel swords, this is 2 seasonal items", like what? everytime i go to search up the worth of a play wild item i feel like i am studying for a exam at university.

I like both games, but I play ajpw more than I play aj. Both games have their pros and cons, but the downside for aj is the play wild haters on there (which isn’t the game’s fault obviously), but it’s just not fun hanging around these people. Comparing the games is stupid. If you like to play one of them you basically like to play the other since they’re practically the same games in different fonts. Both are great games, but aj needs some good updates.

Honestly, I couldn’t enjoy classic because I can’t access its features and the community I personally saw seemed very trade oriented. Community is something i value a lot in a game, and based on what I’ve seen, play wild has my favor. You can say that I haven’t looked in the right place, but honestly? I don’t know if there is a right place.

Aj play wild is Less laggy better graphics kinda but aj classic is nostalgia.

I personally like classic better, because of the adventures and lore it gives, but play wild IS SO MUCH MORE POLISHED

Tbh I may be biased to AJ classic because I am an old player by that I mean 2010 days ( tho that account got deleted when AJ had that data breech I lost so much) I think the main reason why i just prefer AJC to AJPW is the artstyle I really think the 3D art style of PW is just bad the 2D art style does not translate well into 3D some artstyles look good in both animal jam it looks best in 2D! 2D is also just easier on the eyes! I find AJPW just...so difficult to look at. Granted I am not a fan of the item obsession AJC has its kind why I quit back in 2016 cus all people wanted to do was trade and I wasn't much into that cus I had a beta account a lot of my items where sought after and I kinda got harassed over them adventures made this better and worse tbh. I was never a trader I still am not now, tho starting over is hard cus all the nice stuff I liked can no longer be bought and you kinda have to trade for it and oh my gosh thees people hold onto thees pixel items and they could have more than one to. I think people just put items onto there trade list to show off. Idk how good or bad it is for PW. ALSO! whoever hacked into my beta account after the data breech occurred and stole my account from me I do hope your happy.

My favorite is ajpw! In aj classic you have to be a member to get everything, which is sad

i love both

I prefer play wild, probably because I make content for it. Maybe if I had soft ware to record classic videos, I might like it a little better

Actually both play wild and classic use 3d models, classic just renders them in a different way

Classic will always be number one in my heart by far, I really don't like the 3d models and the way the items clip through all of the animals. Feels super wonky and lazy to me. But I do enjoy a lot of the minigames on play wild like the dog and phantom one :).

I prefer AJPW, there’s just so much nostalgia. I only downloaded it because I remember I played it with my brother when I was very young, and we ate cotton candy from every single stand we saw. I heard apparently that a lot of classic players hate play wild players, which makes me think their community might not be so nice, and it’s a bit boring- and I just don’t really like how the characters are pixelated. But, I don’t hate it, I just don’t really like it. Pls don’t bash me in the reply section guys 💀

While they both have perks. PW takes win. You need to be a member for everything in classic! Tho classic has better features

i personally prefer classic, i grew up with it and hardly play play wild to ofc ill favor it, the packs kinda suck in my opinion, and playwild has such a weird trade system that i CANT grasp, plus it has too many updates (again, my opinion), so i cant keep up if i leave for multiple months (and theres too much to grasp), also it feels WAY too bright compared to classic, where it can be dim or bright.

I like playing aj classic if on coputer aj pw if on mobile I like both rlly but if i had 2 choose i would pick aj classic

They are making a new animal jam because the classic is really hard to update ever since the flash game java got shut down I remember the early days when It was fun to play the old neopets with lots of great games but now is really boring to get into now because of the flash same with moshi monsters too got shut down too is really sad rip flash games compared with star stable is an old game to they constantly update their games and now they have it on mobile too.
