13:01 Everyone saw the kokeshi doll in the kitchen, right? In Japan, during WW2, Okinawans were forced to kill their children or be forced into poverty or borderline slavery. Parents made kokeshi dolls to honor their children that they murdered. Does this have something to do with the story? I just thought it stood out.

That could be the plot of the whole town, actually; with messages like “I forgive you mommy” they could be the child pleading with their mother from the grave that they understand what they had to do. Maybe the “then why don’t you give me your fingers” room is a reference to the people forcing the Okinawa to murder their children, and giving them an option of sorts.

Okay about the first house ... the baby cot next to an axe means that obviously the baby was killed by its mother. The breathing apparatus and egg mean the baby was recently born and was born with some kind of defect. The mother most likely confident cope with the stress so she went hysterical. As for the camera maybe It means a baby monitor that drove the mother mad? As for the black rooms the baby obviously stayed in the cot meaning it wouldn't remember anything but it's room and the axe. And the mother face as shown by the masks. This is extremely dark.

Also, the masks on the wall are from Noh theater, a type of Japanese play where the actors where symbolic masks. The mask in the main room is a common mask to represent a young woman, but the mask that was alone in the darkened room is a Hannya mask, used to represent an evil woman who has become a demon due to her actions.

Ever notice silence is so much creepier than hypno kk? I guess when their is no sound, your brain creates a mix of all the creepy things you've ever heard.

The husband used negative words for his kid. Instead of saying baby, he said brat. Guess he doesn't like children? He also didn't use a very nice term for his wife, either. In the dictionary, "aitsu" is translated as "that damn person". It just is a male term for "that person".

At 13:40 when I heared the bird chirps I was reminded of the village name. At first the guy says it means caged baby bird or something. I think I get it. The baby was 'trapped' in the mother. Or at least thats how one of the childen persevied it. One of the childen must have saw pregnancy as the imprisionment of a baby within the body, and not as a baby simply being created and growing inside. Anyways, the kid is afrid for the unborn child and takes it upon themself to ax the child out of her. Thus freeing the caged bird like the name implies. After which the child ends up killing the parent but says 'I forgive you, mommy.' Meaning they forgive her for what she has done by holding the baby prisoner within her body. The teddy bear alone in that red room with the words 'let me out' something or other, represents the red insides of the womb and the bear as the baby trapped within. I also think that after the killing of their mother the child may have cut off thier own fingers or something, feeling guilt eventually over the realization of the their pointless murder. Thats just my thoughts so far. Hope I got my idea out with it making sense. I don't care if you don't belive my theory or not .

That.... That just gave me goosebumps...

After finding out what kotoribako really means, this village got a whole lot creepier in context. While whole "baby bird cage" (小鳥箱) metaphor's fitting for this, there's also the "small children's box" (子取り箱), also knowing as "kidnapping box/child-taking box", which gives birth(pun intended) to another version of this village's story. even the anime "occultic;nine" had an ep about this nope box. Logically thinking, why would an aborted baby seek revenge on her mother when it's often thought they cant really have vengeful feelings when they havent been born/lived for a few months unless for spoopy horror story cursed urban legend effect? After reading up stuff about the "small children's box" like that 2chan story and checking out the original japanese sources(i can read pretty okay-ish). According to the legend, the kotoribako is an intricate puzzle box often associated with curses, revenge and horrible deaths(like insides ripping apart). The ones likely to die just by being near it are women and children. When opened up, an entire village violently died. Inside the box were remains of a corpse is found, usually body parts like fingers(ESPECIALLY index fingers), heads or insides. According to the 2chan kotoribako story(first written in 2005, so this village may have taken inspiration from this), those corpses may be children or babies sacrificed likely for the sake of revenge(the box was used as a tool of such, a weapon of supernatural murder). Their body parts stored inside the box, carrying all that hatred and anger, and given to the target, causing unnatural deaths in their families. Probably why it's called "small children's" box. Pretty gory stuff. Now here's my interpretation "small children box" ver: Hina's mother was forced(or voluntarily decided) to kill her own child(hina was likely already born based on the paintings in the 3rd house), so she stored the baby's finger in the kotoribako, whether for revenge or as a creepy memento. Someone either managed to open the box letting her angry spirit out or the box is still closed but all the bad mojo can still be felt affecting the mother and everyone around it strong enough, or the box was given to the mother as some sort of revenge and her own baby's out to torment her. There's a lot of symbolism everywhere just from a lot of the objects used other than the obvious ones(like the noh masks overlooking the room specifically using the "onna"(woman) mask and "hannya"(demoness) mask, the dolls surrounding the crib in "small children box" context, the anatomical doll standing in front of the toilet, synonymous with insides probably wrecking itself) but I'd be here forever typing all of my interpretations out Also some of the translations are wrong, like at 1:52, "Mama wo yurushite" is actually "Please forgive mommy", not "I will forgive you mommy", since "yurushite(forgive(me))" is used here, not "yurusu/yurushimasu(forgive/I'll forgive(you))", and later on. I think the translations you got are rough ones, which sucks a lil cause you could've gotten more out of proper ones that often have hidden meanings. Here's my translation for the ones I found wrong(not completely accurate but closer enough, with a bit of jpn lingo tidbits): 1:52 - 「ママヲユルシテ」(Mama wo yurushite)"Please forgive mommy" NOT "mommy I forgive you" 4:51 - 「ヒナのひとさしゆび」「子取り箱の中」(hina no hitosashi yubi, kotoribako no naka(the "small children" kanji is used here, NOT "small bird"))"Hina's index finger, is inside the kotoribako" NOT "Hina's own fingers, open up the box and see" (this would be along the lines of 「ヒナのゆび中に」｢箱開いてみて」(hina no yubi naka ni, hako aitemite), which gives me the "come spook yourself" feel instead of creepy mysterious) 5:38 - (this one's correct it's just how it's written is interesting) 「ここからだシて」(koko kara da-SHI-te(the SHI could imply "death", so something either to get out from hell/the underworld or the murder box lol) 10:26 - 「アタシノアカチャン？」(Atashi no akachan?) Can be read as both "Im a mother?" or literal "My baby?"("it's my baby?" or "where my baby is?" etc) 11:01 - Again it's "Please forgive mommy" NOT "I forgive you mommy" 14:14 - 「ひとさしゆびをちょうだい」(hitosashi yubi wo choudai) "Give me your (index) finger" (could be towards the mom, could be towards the baby, judging from the axe placed on the box/kotoribako) 14:48 - Same as 14:14, it says "give me your index finger" NOTHING says "Let the blood run down my fingers" otherwise I'd see words like 血ち/チ("chi", for blood) or ぼろぼろ/ボロボロ("boro boro" dripping) or 出血/しゅっけつ/シュッケツ ("shukketsu" bleed)

"Let me out from here" room, my reaction = NOPE NOPE I'M DONE I AM OUT NOPE BEDTIME STORY IS OVER NO IM GONE

Kotoribako is correct, although the word used is hako (箱) when another word is combined in front of it the hako (はこ) is read as bako (ばこ) because that's how Japanese works.

I'm immune to most creepy things. Aika village is cool and Hypno kk is my lullaby. The one thing that scares me, that's a secret.

A lot of these towns are creepier than Aika (Aika haven't spooked me at all while these towns are chilling). Aika village created a bunch of monsters o-o ...But beautiful monsters

Seeing how nervous you were made me go through the town as I watched the video. And made sure to talk to villagers. Kinda took the edge off and made me feel a little less alone. (They've added a new house by the way). I always wonder why I keep doing this to myself.

I just found your videos and I love them so much! I never thought that the creators of this game added some of the japanese horror stories and the dark history in the dream world. I thank you for showing these tales.

If you look closely at the paintings in minute five they say kotoribako, but it's written with these kanji:子取り箱. And that says the child taking box. eventhough pronounced the same as 小鳥箱. little bird's box. so I believe it isn't the bird's box, but the child taking box.

i think it's about a girl who is mad that her mother is having another child because she thinks the mother is replacing her so she tries to make the mother give her the baby. she finally gets the baby and kills it in front of her mother then imprisions her mother so she can't escape. the mother goes insane and tries to escape the girl so the girl kills her mother. the 'i forgive you mommy' is just the girl saying she forgives her mother after she's killed her but not regreting killing her mother. that's why the dolls would sit in front of the cradle with an axe. the father isn't very important but he probably just went insane at his wife and child's death and killed himself.

in Japanese culture a kotoribako is also known as a child eating box, the podcast kowabana does a pretty good job of explaining it if you want more info

This town is based on the urban legend of kotori bako. I googled the town name コトリバコ村 and clicked the first link, it's link to the kotori bako story but I couldn't read it very well. Hope that helps!

well, that first house is all about a baby being tortured and killed by her own Mommy... But since there was a demon mask it most likely meaned her mom was possessed or lead by a demon... The box of happiness thing could be that the rest of the house is what they want others to see, but in there it's a ruined life with their true joy being hidden... But here was a wrong translation at Eririn... "Atashi no aka-chan?" translates into "My baby?"... not "I'm a mother" which would be "Atashi wa Kaa-san?" or along those lines... and the last one.... I think the guy is right.... the flushing the blood down in the toilet.... or... maybe it's an abortion.... coz there were two dolls... as in two kids.... One was born the other aborted? and the first girl who got killed haunts her mom?

Kuchisake onna is a story about a beautiful girl that many men flirted with even though she was true to her boyfriend, who was jealous... so one night when a coworer helped her get home he cut her mouth open screaming "WHO WILL FIND YOU BEAUTIFUL NOW, HUH?!"... I don't remember how she died, pain shock, bloodloss or she drowned herself in shame... But now a youkai of her walks around in Tokyo wearing a medical mask (which is normal to do in Japan so if you have the sniffles you don't get others sick) asking "do you think I'm beautiful?".. if you answer yes she will remove the mask and ask again... Say Yes she will cut your mouth and say "Now you are beautiful like me" if you say no she outright kills you out of rage...

um idk if people have already mentioned this but the translations are slightly off. the sign is: "please forgive mommy". There is never any mention of the kid forgiving mom. Just 'mommy' asking for forgiveness. Hina=baby bird, the signs in the upstairs of the 1st house is: Hina's pointer finger...inside the kotori(homonym: 'child taking') box. The way the husband talks is: How dare she pop out a kid! Eririn: Is that my baby? also, "bako" is right. otherwise, love your videos!

Kotori bako is right :) Japanese is complicated aha. hako and bako both means box (in this case cage) but they used bako in this because it's grammatically correct.

The kotori bako is a famous Japanese creepypasta. The idea is that the kotori bako is a weapon-it can wipe out families and villages overnight, etc. In order to make one, though, you have to kill your own children. The kotori bako contains the umbilical cords, finger tips, etc of murdered babies and children. It's very a very dark curse and very evil.
