Himanta Biswa Sarma is not just the Chief Minister of Assam but also the most influential political figure in the whole of North East India. Switching sides to the BJP in 2015 has seen his popularity grow tenfold - whether it's at the Centre or amongst the masses in the Hindi heartland. In a candid conversation with Smita Prakash, the witty politician talks about his days in the Congress and the stark differences he witnessed between the cultures of the BJP and the Congress. In this conversation, he doesn’t leave a stone unturned to slam the Gandhi family and even ends up calling them “expired Drugs”. He takes on Rahul Gandhi over his “feudal mindset”, referring to him as someone “not fit for politics”. He sheds light on issues of his home state Assam varying from Bangladeshi immigrants to unauthorised Madrasas and how the BJP government has helped in integrating North Eastern states with the rest of India.

@@Gappasappa Himanta ji was in Congress party which ruled assam from 2001 to 2014 as a cabinet minister. By saying Congress never allowed the rest of India to get to know north east region indirectly you are saying that Himanta ji did not allow.

You see, abhi wahan pe ek presidential election hua hai and we all knew before hand ki kaun banega aur they were saying ki election democratically hua hai within the party. Saala 10k logon mein se Tharoor 7k votes se haare hain almost toh yahi batata hai ki wo kitna prajatantra hai aur kitna rajtantra.
I am a Muslim from upper Assam. Sivsagar. What he did for Indigenous Muslims of Assam No one ever Did. He is a True "Secular" Leader. Congress Exploited Us for decades.

Himanta Biswa Sarma is a breath of fresh air. His frankness and his ability to get people to buy into his ideas and vision is remarkable. He is a rare breed. More power to him. Thanks Smita ji for the candid interview of a rockstar Chief minister
My favourite cm till now was yogi ji but now it's definitely him, he is so straight and clear about his ideas and goals, he does not sound tangled or under pressure at all. We need more people like him in politics.

We call him Mama in Assam ♥️.People suprise by his speaking skills may not know he practiced in Gauhati High Court and a Doctorate in Philosophy.. My father said since college he had this charm and was very popular for his leadership skills even in different colleges like the one my father went. I am so proud he represents our constituency 🙌🏻. He is always there for his constituency people from helping kids study without worrying about books and uniform to empower woman to start their weaving bussiness.

I have meet Mr. Himanta Biswa Sarma in person in 2018 & 2019. He is a very humble person. I've known him since a child..when I was just 4 years. He is a very charismatic leader and always dedicated his life for Assam & it's people, Northeast and India. He is really a PM material. ❤️❤️❤️ Mama❤️

I also met him on airport, he is rude and very arrogant person he was mistreating his assistant.
Being from Assam, since childhood, I had been dying and dreaming to see the first politician from Assam to answer in Hindi, to answer in English without fumbling with the first few words and go dead, to questions asked by any mainstream journalist. How the heart used to cringe to see politicians from Assam going white with confusion with even a 'yes/no' question asked in English or Hindi so many times...the frushtrating wait of decades got over today when I found this interview and such a rewarding one. When I find that the interview lasted for not a few seconds, or at most, a couple of minutes, but a full hour and three minutes where the CM, of Assam, HBS, spoke with such total command over his answers, with such clarity to not simple but an intricate volley of questions from an accomplished journalist, the heart has to flutter with joy...It is as if he compensated in that one hour with his tongue-in-cheek, humorous and yet supremely packed-up, probing dealings of the questions for all the linguistic inability and insufficiency in Hindi and English of his fellow politicians from Assam over decades. When interviews can get so humorous and unpretentious, yet so wise, they can redefine the whole art of interviewing. Salute...

Even my parents said after visiting J&K and Arunachal Pradesh that AP is no less than JK in terms of natural beauty, if not more. Completely endorses Himanta ji's claim....100%. AP is definitely way way more cleaner than JK. This is first had view of my parents and bear in mind they visited JK and AP in 2 consecutive years.

I think Shri Himanta Biswa Sarma ji will be a pioneer in future development of North East. A guy who is very right person was in Congress for 22 years, but his ideology of freely expressing his ideas were trapped, but after 2015 he got freedom to express after entering in BJP. This change will be to greater extent in terms of development of North East. Now Assam is very well discussed as other states of India and we will soon see other states of North East also. Heads off to Smita and CM Sharma. Heart to heart,Frank discussions. Though he spoken his days with Congress but he is so polished that he didn't criticised Mrs.Gandhi. He was insulted by Rahul and it was only reason that he parted with Congress once for all. He also forecasted that many many congressmen will leave because courterie is not good for them. They have got message that their future is somewhere outside the family party of Congress.

@@shubhampandey4795 Yogi Ji would be better Home Minister due to his tough stand on law and order. Himanta biswa Sarma Ji would be better PM as he takes all people together. Also in the race is Devendra Fadnavis Ji. Mind you future Trifecta of BJP will be Yogi Ji, Himanta Da and Devendra Bhau.

Great session. But one request to *Ms. Smita Prakash* , kindly let you guest finish and also avoid finishing or paraphrasing on their behalf. It is essential that voters/public know what your guests want to say and how they want to word it. There were several occasions during this interview, where I was really intrigued by what Himanta Biswa Sarma was going to say, before you interrupted him and asked another question before he could finish his answer to the previous question.

Yes, I agree. She wasn't as professional and sophisticated as expected from her while interviewing a Chief Minister. I am so surprised. She said Mike ... Kar Lo, not lijiye.

⛳️I loved her style of casual conversation… she was very involved in his talk, she was acknowledging what he was saying & showing she is listening & dancing in the conversation.. I feel her small interruptions bought more depth in the interview.🙏🏻

This CM is a common man's person, anyone can talk to him so easily freely (if get a chance) like talking to your own family member... I bet SHO of any police station in Assam must be having haughtybattitude or bit of arrogance but not this man. So humble So clear - straight forward. He definitely has a long way to go...
