Yeah I would have figured it was more purposeful and nerdy and dry music-theory kind of composition but I guess he's on a level where that's baked in naturally. Also it's funny that David said "That's Twin Peaks" because that sad-then-bright-then-sad is sort of the way you feel across it.

You can clearly see that he is telling the words in the exact same way that Lynch spoke it to him. He's so to say back in that moment. It's coming from his own audiovisual "memory", like it would come from an audio recorder.

My wife introduced me to Twin Peaks, and we have a tradition of rewatching it every year now. For those that haven't watched it yet, or for those who are rewatching it, make sure to stay extra present during "episode 14" (Lonely Souls) - I think this is the single most powerful TV experience I've had.

I love how this song represents the duality of Laura. In the begining we can feel the mood of Laura in the woods at night and perceive the darkness from her soul, later we get closer to the climax and we understand where all the pain and sorrow comes from, then the climax resolves beautifully, just like Laura, because after all she was just a beautiful girl whose life was tacken away.

The moment it would play on the show, an image of Laura would come to your mind and make you feel both terrified and sad but at the same time kind of hopeful. But as a classical cellist, she is always more than happy to sit down and listen through the original soundtrack with me. @@positivegradient I think even if one had never seen the show, they would be able to understand the emotions of the music. I'm not sure how, but some chords and chord progressions can sound inherently sad, or hopeful, etc.

Jokes aside these are the sickest composition skills I've ever encountered. True genius. No wonder when he and David Lynch sat together a masterpiece named Twin Peaks got created.

Yeah I would have figured it was more purposeful and nerdy and dry music-theory kind of composition but I guess he's on a level where that's baked in naturally. Also it's funny that David said "That's Twin Peaks" because that sad-then-bright-then-sad is sort of the way you feel across it.

You can clearly see that he is telling the words in the exact same way that Lynch spoke it to him. He's so to say back in that moment. It's coming from his own audiovisual "memory", like it would come from an audio recorder.

It's 8:35 in the morning on December 23, 2022. The sky is blue and the sun is slowly rising over a Norwegian winter landscape. And here I am, down with the flu, balling my eyes out listening to this. My wife introduced me to Twin Peaks, and we have a tradition of rewatching it every year now. For those that haven't watched it yet, or for those who are rewatching it, make sure to stay extra present during "episode 14" (Lonely Souls) - I think this is the single most powerful TV experience I've had.

Angelo's storytelling hability is as impressive as his composition skills, because obviously this didn't happen in 4 plus minutes, but he sums it in a fascinating matter for the video purpose.

I love how this song represents the duality of Laura. In the begining we can feel the mood of Laura in the woods at night and perceive the darkness from her soul, later we get closer to the climax and we understand where all the pain and sorrow comes from, then the climax resolves beautifully, just like Laura, because after all she was just a beautiful girl whose life was tacken away.

The music is amazing, but what gets me each time is the way Angelo describes David talking. The way he talks -- his phrasing and cadence -- really resembles the conversation style he wrote for some of his characters. I just keep hearing Gordon...
This masterpiece tells the whole story itself. The moment it would play on the show, an image of Laura would come to your mind and make you feel both terrified and sad but at the same time kind of hopeful. This sort of feeling that made you wish the horror you/she witnessed was just a dark nightmare.

I love this so much. Angelo's descriptive storytelling brings a tear to my eye.
Rest easy, Angelo. My mother never had the stomach to be able to sit through Twin Peaks. But as a classical cellist, she is always more than happy to sit down and listen through the original soundtrack with me. Your work has given me some of the most crucial bonding experiences with my mother. Anytime I watch this video with her we’re both in tears by the end. I can’t thank you enough for your work.
This video makes me fall in love with art all over again. Pure expression.
Apparently, Twin-Peaks-related KZread comment threads are the good part of the internet (or maybe Twin Peaks fanatics are just the good part of humanity). I love seeing all of this heartfelt appreciation for two of my favorite artists, Lynch and Badalamenti. 🏔🏔❤️

Definitely. Another example for me: Tim Burton's films wouldn't be the same without Danny Elfman's scores
His spoken performance, he telling the story is just as amazing as what he does on the piano.
I love when artists give this kind of insight into their songwriting process
Watching this now is so emotional, not just because of the Laura Palmer story and the music itself, but the nostalgia we get of watching Twin Peaks for the first time, so long ago, and how special that time of our lives was.
