What is most remarkable about this setting for me is seeing Angelina, alone, with a microphone and accompanied with just a backing track, yet she commands my complete and undivided attention when she sings. This performance just confirms why Angelina doesn’t need all of the unnecessary studio produced distractions that most other artists feel they need. Angelina standing in a spot, accompanied with a piano, guitar or backing track is all we fans need to become completely focused and mesmerized when listening to this divinely gifted angel sing.

I had not heard this song until this video of Angelina Jordan covering it. The words of the song are so universally appealing, and with Angelina's voice carrying the message it seems to touch very deep. I feel transported to that place where we know if everything is energy in various states of expansion and contraction, then Love is All. And then she waves like a young girl. Love the headphones! Now I know that you are getting the full experience of Angelina's amazing singing. Many reactors comment that Angelina "sounds a lot like so-and-so" when she covers a song, and it's true that she has an incredible ability to sing with a similar tone to many of the artists she covers, but I think you will find in listening to Angelina and listening to the originals that Angelina's voice is richer, fuller, and has more texture, more depth, and more nuance than the originals in almost every case. Since you listened to this Lana Del Rey cover I will second Carl Dez's suggestion that you listen to Angelina's cover of Born to Die next (link provided by Carl in his comment). It is remarkable and I think the headphones will make a huge difference to your listening experience.

You said that this song fit so well with Angelina’s voice. It’s amazing, isn’t it, how many songs in different styles fit her voice so well. Actually, no-I think it’s the other way around. Calling Angelina the girl with a thousand voices is a bit of an overstatement, but she can choose voices, tones, and inflections so easily to fit and enhance whatever she sings. Since you’re a Lana Del Ray fan, you really have to watch Angelina’s cover of Born to Die. Her opening tone just freezes you because, even for Angelina fans, it doesn’t seem like that deep and resonant voice can come from such a young singer. It’s one of her more extraordinary covers, and another one that’s better than the original, in my opinion. Just Angelina sitting at home, a music track, and a mic. Nothing else needed.

My answer is yes to the question. I closed my eyes and listened to her stylize this cover.

Dont worry when it seems you are repeating yourself as you continue to listen to her music. Just keep telling it straight. You're likely going to keep arriving at the same place- stunned at how good she continues to be, consistently across genres and artists all the while putting her distinctive stamp on each one while paying tribute to the original. And more often than not, you'll probably favor her version over the original. She's just that good. We are so fortunate to be witness to her coming into her own in real time...

First time I heard this song it went right to the top of my favorite list. Eventually I realized that was happening with almost every new song I heard from Angelina. It sounds weird to say it, but I cherish every time I hear her sing.

LOL In my personal opinion, Angelina is a way better singer than Lana, but Lana has some really great lyrics. Pretty much like Adele, another artist with less tools in her vocal toolbox than Angelina. Again just my opinion 🙂 I love that you use headphones now. This has to be one of my fave covers. It's technically perfect and has so much soul. I love way she plays with the tension and release in the bridge, leading to that note on "diamond." Breathtaking. Great reaction, MV! Oh, Happy New Year, man!

Keep up the good work, Josh; your reactions are spot on. Angelina's covers are similar without being identical due to her Norwegian accent and English pronunciation of words. However, that said, Angelina always makes the cover song her own.

There is no accent, maybe a touch of Midwestern sound if you listen very carefully. But she occasionally uses the jazz tool kit - including unexpected intonation, word broadening or letter swapping. And given the uniqueness of her voice combined with her hard-earned technical skills, she has no choice but to make every song she covers her own. 😉

What I meant was: She uses this or another tool from this box when she feels it fits the song and/or helps convey both meaning and feeling (not the whole box and sometimes nothing from it either).

As you'll soon come to notice, somehow Angelina can "sound like" (or maybe remind us of) lots of original artists that she covers. It might be tone or choice of vocal effects or some other intangible but it happens over and over. All the while she often, in ways small or large, makes the song her own.

So many reactors have said: She just sounds like ..., or has a similar voice like ..., but than there are several singers she is compared to. Billie Holiday, Amy Winehouse, Adele, Norah Jones and many others. Most surprising for me is that she could sound like Eva Cassidy (RIP), who I considered one of the best (cover) singers in the world! yes listen to Lana Del Rey's version. Also, listen to Born to Die first by Lana, then Angelina. I believe Angelina Angelina's version is much better at capturing and transmitting the deep emotion of Born to Die even though she is only 11. Evidence that AJ is embodying the spirit and emotion of the great artists that have gone before her. There is no other explanation for how a young can convey life experience beyond her years.

I just hate anyone who tries to say something bad about Angelina. She is perfect how she sings, her personality is perfect everything about her is perfect. No other artist is like this and what she does for the world and for us. I might have understood what he said wrong, if so I'm sorry. But I think I understood correctly. More like twelve.

Her vocals and arrangement are better than Lana's, and I know how good Lana is. Heartfelt ballads need to be sung by a true jazz singer, for only they are able to bring forth the emotion laden penetration needed. Angelina applies so much she learned from Billie Holiday, who was the best at singing this kind of song.

Maybe I should give her the benefit of the doubt but there's a video circulating on KZread of Lana del Rey singing live which leads me to wonder if she can sing at all, never mind be likened to the best young singer on the circuit. My sense is that Angelina Jordan can match up with very little effort to all the technological post-production enhancement wizardry the boffins can throw at the vocally mediocre eye-candy the video age has imposed on music consumers. That said, I have studiously avoided Miss del Rey since that terrifying performance, which may turn out to have been a blip but I won't find out by listening to her studio recordings, I'm certain of that.

I have heard some Lana songs live and she does a nice job. She’s an amazing songwriter but clearly Angelina is a great singer on another level from most:)
