Egil Clausen is the one on guitar. He started playing with her just after she won Norway got talent. He's been a very important person until she moved to Usa. There is a video where Alan Papier interviews Egil and another interview wit Ivan Mendez who played with her in L.A.

I agree with Andy. The two (relatively) recent videos with Alan Papier are the main source of some of the first hand information that we know about Angelina. They’re about twenty minutes each but they are fascinating. Listening to them gives you a whole new understanding about Angelina and those of her inner circle. We often speculate about what is going through the minds of her accompanists. In these two videos, we hear of their experiences directly from them. Nice reaction Mr LBoyd. 👍

Both of the Egil and Ivan interviews give an inside perspective of how their videos came about and will give reactors an even greater appreciation of Angelina's talents. The sessions were never preplanned. They would discuss songs, choose one, take a few minutes for Angelina to download the lyrics and for the guitarist to learn the chords, turn the camera on and record the song. Both Egil and Ivan said the uploads were usually the first takes, and if 2nd or rarely 3rd takes it was because of mistakes by the guitarist. She would tell them to just follow her for the rhythm and pace. It is mind-blowing that Angelina can convey so much emotion in a song while scrolling and reading the lyrics. I believe Egil is intently watching Angelina so he can match her timing. She slowed down the pace toward the end of this one and changes pace throughout many of her recordings.

I love her! She brings old songs into the present without destroying them! She is unbelievable talented! ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️

can't believe this is the same girl who did How Great Thou Art. I gotta say this is now one of my favorites. She improvised in so many instances to help turn this performance into something so beautiful, and I listened to this song many times growing up in the 80s. I listened to this performance and literally got overwhelmed with all the memories. Her cover is magical.

@@sarlina1 In my top 5 definitely. Beautiful, crazy soulful. Angelina chose the songs wisely back then and made those songs sound fresh like morning dew. Not so sure about her latest picks to cover though.

@@MrRonkard Agree. Those choices back then, were so delicate, so perfect for her voice. Also her choices that coming year, at 12, and up to her participation at AGT. I really hope she will be choosing some classics to cover again, which suit her now more developed voice perfectly. The voice she had at 11-12 years old, and in this song here, was so special (she has always been special, but still..), and we will not hear that exact same voice again, due to the voice changes from puberty. She is developing just fine of course, but we can all hear a slight change in her voice, and her song choices will be very important for her going forward.

Understand from an interview with the guitarrist that they just started playing a song sometimes without practice and someone recorded it. You can see that she needed to read the lyrics. I think that she was looking at him to see if he had understood where she was taking the song. Both Eigil Clausen and Ivan Mendez said exactly the same: nothing was ever planned when they came. I'm always amazed when I hear her voice like in this cover. No filters, nothing. You can hear her beautiful raw voice. She is incredible !🥰

I’ve heard this song all my life and never liked it, until now. Her voice is magical. Her voodoo voice has transformed several other songs for me as well. I appreciate her ability more than I can say.

The first time ever I heard Angelina's voice, I knew it was the best I had ever heard.

A most remarkable thing about Angelina is that she never gets in a hurry and is totally fearless and mindful about the gaps of silence that result. They become part of the impact in the performance.

It is very remarkable. I don't know how she was trained for this or if it's instinctive but I have never seen an artist that seems to enjoy the power of the silence. When you watch the AGT videos they pan the audience for what seems like an eternity and she has them in the palm of her hands . You could hear a pin drop. Incredible.

Who doesn’t love this song. It’s haunting and melancholic.

I can't help but feel privileged to be able to watch her develop and demonstrate her incredible talents. Quite possibly will become a generational superstar.

The thing I really like about her performance here is that she showcases the fact that her gentle lilts add wonderful texture to the song, rather than those annoying runs that so many singers think are cool. Hers are never contrived.

But it is there! And WHAT is it? What is she seeing? I’d like to call it - Mankind. She got that very special thing in her voice only a few got . And not only that , I think it takes a musical genius to at that age hear the instrumental part of music and translate it into a voice that sounds so lived true and bluesy as hers . Every song she does is well thought true and transmitted into her own . I think the look is how they communicate , in the interviews it seems like she leads and its the guitarist who follows her lead.

After hearing this song, I am now convinced that AJ does not function mentally like most people. Her innate musical confidence permits her to naturally interpret her music in a way that seems so obvious to her. It's almost like some of the great composers of the past - who would have the complete symphony in their heads before they began writing. AJ somehow works out the interpretation prior to actually singing a song. Even (as in this case) she needs to refer to her customized script, there is no script that can produce the perfection (that) she routinely accomplishes. The more one looks the more one realizes just how skilled she is. New realizations into her talents are experienced on every recording and to some extent, I suppose, there would be insights into every artist once we look a little closer, but more often than not, these closer looks expose flaws as we drill down into their songs. Whereas, the actual challenge with listening to AJ is to NOT miss the subtle nuances that make her songs extraordinary. In other words, the closer you look the better she gets.

What she does to a classic is incomparable , her uniqueness knows no boundaries, absolutely mouth watering, eye watering , stunning!

Beautiful version..Angelina is so young and sweet As a number one fan..having heard all versions of this lovely song..I in all honesty feel Roberta flack nailed it.. I agree I sensed an unease in her demeanour..possibly a self awareness of the intimacy this song conveys..love guitar music..but know personally it creates an even more intimate atmostsphere..possibly Angelina felt this with her unique sensitivity and held back..just a thought..still number one fan..can't put lived in voice like Roberta on this young beautiful artist...excited to hear her vocals all day long...

Another great choice of song. Here she puts so much emotion into this rendition. The lyrics start quite innocently, then they suddenly become very adult! For an 11 year old to be singing this can be a little awkward, especially as it is probably her grandma that is recording it! The shy, embarrassed look at the end is likely to be a response to the look on her grandma's face.

I think the "staring" you mentioned is he just making sure he stays on track with Angelina, as these performances are very often impromtu without any "practice". Which makes it even better, right ?

Your observation is correct. He was looking at her to gave support because she sang some of the lines in the wrong order. That's why you got that look and grin between them at the end like they knew something.

It looks like he is staring at her because he's trying to follow where she is going. It would not surprise me if neither of them has done the song before. Angelina is reading from her phone while Egil is as surprised as the rest of us at some of her choices.

I am not sure about his first name but his last name is Mendez He is Mexican i believe and he works with Angelina all the time.They are good friends.

Voice of an Angel! What else needs to be said!

Her guitarist is Egil Clausen. He started working with Angelina soon after she won NGT. The way they worked: the family would call him to come over. Angelina would say, for instance, “ Do you know the song The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face? I heard it recently and would like to try it.” He would say yes. So he would start and she would come in, frequently slowing him down, holding notes, throwing in runs, keeping her own beat steady against his. They recorded everything. Hardly ever more than two takes, many first takes was all it took before they moved onto another song. I think what you are seeing is him watching her closely for clues. Possibly this is a first take meaning the first time singing this song together. Quiet remarkable when you realize how they worked together.

Isaac Hayes did a hella good cover of it also. His passion is unmatched.

The suppose uncomfortable she showed was when their eyes connected she was lost in the song and realized what she was singing. Both guitarist have said that when she calls to do a video, they do activities most of the day. Eat dinner then go to her room to shoot the video. They then decide what song and if they don't know it, she brings it up on her phone, he gets rhe rhythm down in about 5 minutes, then she says just follow my lead. Usually done in one take, if more than one take the guitarist claims they messed up and usually lost in her spectacular performance! Egil Clausen is the guitarist with her after winning the contest, Ivan Mendez started after her move to L.A. God Bless!

Roberta’s cover was released in 1972.

There's a mashup video out now that places Angelina with Miley Cyrus singing The First Time. And though I haven't paid much attention to ms. Cyrus she killed this. Not better, imo, than Ang but none the less surprisingly as fantastic. Not taking anything away from these two ladies just pointing out that the melodic lyrics along with the message (love at first sight) make this truly difficult for any technically on point artist to screw up. BTW,sir, another top drawer piece of work with your reaction here.

I think that, when recording, she’s fells not comfortable with the lyrics and because of that at the end she doesn’t wave, as usual, instead she sinks her face in her hand. She’s such an authentic and lovely person 😊

The reason she was uncomfortable with the guy playing the guitar was because he failed to keep to her tempo. Don't know if I've used correct word. But she's a perfectionists
