    One thing that I have noticed about Angelina over the years is that she is always challenging herself... always pushing the limits of what she is capable of. She is never taking the easy way with her song choices or her creative decisions. This is one of the things that has put her on her own level of excellence. I think Whitney would be very proud of the respect this 13 year old showed to her song.

    I am glad you stick with Angelina being 13 years old here, Rusty. I see so many write she was 12, but I have yet to see anything supporting that. It is also a common mistake to think this was sung and recorded in one take. If we look thoroughly, there are a couple of places closer to the end where its pretty obvious this was edited. And editing also means it might have been some delay between the recording and the upload. How long is impossible to say, but I have not yet seen any date of this recording, other than the upload date, where she was 13. But all this does not change anything, or the fact that Angelina nailed this. This is outstanding, and as you and Ceci say, it is also very brave of her to challenge herself to this limit. Top, top class, regardless of age.

    @MIssy Jones The clothing makes no sense, Norway is cold until around March or so, and may vary 10-20 degrees in the winter. The point is "everyone" have heard or read something in the comment sections. They are rumors, until there is a link or someone confirming she was 12. The song was uploaded in March, and many of us also write 13 in these comments. From other songs we have got confirmation of earlier dates, due to photographs or other links (as in "I put a spell on you" etc.). In this case, as far as I know, there are none. My husband was closer to the family than I am, and he always dated this performance to 13 years old. And Rusty is also always a well informed man. We know she got her new Neumann mike at her 12th birthday, and can place her home recordings before and after that time frame. And all her performances on TV has been easy to put a date on. We also got a reliable date on "I`m holding out for you". But there are a very few songs we have no certain dates on, this song is one of them.

    @@sarlina1 Does the microphone hold a clue? We know she got the 102 during her 13th year (12 years old) and she seemed to use it almost exclusively after that. Could have been in a studio I suppose, but It doesn't 'look' like one? The video and the singing are not the same, so perhaps the video was an earlier/later take edited. The over-texts near the end tend to be a giveaway when this is done. I think we all need a moderated Angelina Wiki where 'facts' can be verified and referenced, and we can all go to learn the reality. There is a LOT of misinformation about her out there.

    Whitney was 29 years old when she recorded the original of this in a major recording studio, with all the bells and whistles of modern recording technology, and probably done in several takes. Angelina was 12, in a small recording studio or a room in her home, with only her, the microphone and the backing track…..and done in one take. Astounding!

    I think most, if not all, reactors shy away from criticising AJ on this song because of the combination of her young age at the time, the difficulty of the song and the fact that she had the guts to try it at all, not to mention she did a great job of it! I agree with you Ceci, you can hear some fatigue in her voice after belting, but it needs to be considered within context, that context being she's only 12/13 yrs old here. And like you said, she's somewhat out of her comfort zone with this song. It's definitely an outstanding performance for someone her age, show me another 12yr old who can deliver this song to this standard. I'm very sure Angelina will have been aware of her voice being fatigued, she's the one singing it after all, but she still posted the video for us all to see, so she must have been happy with it, and if AJ is happy with it that's good enough for me. I love your reactions to AJ and i look forward to the next one, keep them coming!

    I believe Whitney was 29 when she sang this. Here's a young girl, not doing it in a completely professional recording setting, but casually in a make-shift studio , and producing a remarkable performance, none the less. She is, by far, even at this young age, the most versatile singer of excellence on the planet. Her multi-genre ability just boggles the mind and as she matures, I believe she will take her place as the #1 singer in the world. I'll end by reverting back to her jazz singing, which I find most pleasurable from her. They recently rated 'The Top 50 Jazz Singers Of All Time', and #1 was Ella Fitzgerald (with Sinatra #2, Nat King Cole #3, and Billie Holiday #4). Listen to Ella singing Every Time We Say Goodbye in a totally professional studio......and then listen to Angelina singing it at 10 years of age, outdoors, on a roof top in Norway, with just a simple guitar player keeping time. I don't know about you, but I believe that simple recording was the best version I have ever heard in my life, bringing more feeling into me than even Ella's outstanding version.

    Wonderful honest reaction Ceci. This young girl definitely exploring her vocals here in this difficult song that Whitney sung as an adult at 29 years old. Angelina was singing Whitney at the ripe old age of 1 and 1/2 so she was influenced by her at an early age. Think Angelina has no fear of trying new things as her confidence level is sky high. I think the lyrics say something about her performance - "I don't want to hold it back again, this passion inside" - sometimes this takes a young body to places it can't quite reach, but the passion is fully expressed! This is one of the things I love about watching Angelina, and seeing how she pushes her own boundaries. Even in her imperfection, her delivery is perfect. The little imperfections reminding me that there is no auto-tune to pick up her faults. But she makes only small errors that remind us that she is, after all, a girl who is human. A very talented girl, a beautiful young woman, and an amazing singer. But even amazing singers get tired, fall a little sharp or flat on certain notes. But only true professionals can push through those little errors to deliver a fantastic performance. Angelina is a true professional.

    When you watch as many of her covers as we her fans have, you can tell when she is having fun or trying something out. You can see by her body language. I personally think she is very fond of this song. There is a clip of her singing a little of it as a baby (with a microphone). It is a way to practice belting IMO. But rest assured if she closes her eyes, she is dead serious.. she is in the zone and knows exactly what she intends.

    Considering that Angelina had just turned thirteen years old, her voice is entering the stage in life where it noticeably begins to change and she is singing a very difficult and challenging song for anyone to sing. Understanding and allowances for her age, minor vocal difficulties and physical fatigue must be afforded her. All things considered, this exceptionally gifted and talented young lady put forth an outstanding and even an enviable performance. There are seasoned adult singers that could not even dare to attempt to cover this song, let alone sing it as well as a thirteen year old Angelina did.

I really am amazed at what she has accomplished at her young age. I feel what the world is blessed to be seeing is more than a prodegy in the making, but a master of vocals. Interesting most people seek out the singers who can belt the high notes, while us angels much prefer Angelina singing in her comfort zone where she grabs onto our soul and transports us to her special world.

Would you please comment on what we can expect to hear in the voice as Angelina matures? Ceci, You cleared up a question I had about this video. A comment on another review claimed that Angelina's performance was recorded in a single take. In other words, we're viewing a live performance. There are no cuts in the video. Obviously, the moving images comprise a single take. But, that doesn't eliminate the possibility that additional audio takes were spliced into this video's sound track. In fact, that's how most studio versions are done. The fatigue elements you pointed out proves that the audio is also original to the video - no mixing of multiple audio takes. If they had used multiple audio takes, they would have fixed these flaws. Fairness dictates that this recording should be compared to live performances, not studio versions. That's worth a look. Here is a Whitney live performance of this song. It's from 1993 when Whitney was in her prime. kzread.info/dash/bejne/m6SFksh-YLC4h7Q.html This is Angelina's version that you reacted to. kzread.info/dash/bejne/l4iX2NiIZqWZedI.html Compare the first time that each performer goes for that top note. Start Whitney's at time stamp 3:16 and and listen to her sing, "Don't make me close ..." Switch back and forth between Whitney and Angelina singing that same phrase. Start Angelina's video at 3:10. I had to go back and forth several times. But, I believe Whitney "bailed out" and didn't go for the high note Angelina took on. Whitney sang the next lower note in the chord. That's different from her studio version, which is the version that Angelina sang. If Angelina had recorded Whitney's live version, I don't think you would have found any fatigue. Comparing the timbre of the two singers is interesting. Whitney sounds deeper, not in pitch, but there is a resonance there, probably due to her maturity. It's good. It is no flaw. Her belting is big. The one thing I noticed there is that it's hard to maintain intimacy with big, ringing, belted notes, and this shows in Whitney's performance. She gives up a little bit of intimacy to deliver those big notes. Angelina retains a more intimate effect in her belting. I believe that's all due to the interpretation and how Angelina feels this composition. This is a love strong. I find the intimacy of Angelina enhances this piece. I didn't really notice the fatigue in Angelina's performance until you pointed it out. Even now, it doesn't jump out at me. I would have been perfectly happy enjoying her performance not noticing any flaws, myself. I suspect that the general audience would be more than satisfied with Angelina's performance here. That brings up the question of, "How perfect does a performance have to be to be good, or plenty good enough?" Enjoyed your reaction - this one, and a number of others you have done on Angelina. --- Oh, and another reason why I like your channel, I get the KZread advertisements in Spanish. Since I don't understand a word of Spanish, that makes the ads almost tolerable, sometimes even humorous. --- Muchas gratias!

    She doesn't shy away from anything, no matter how hard a song might be, and this song is an extremely difficult song to sing. It is another thing that I admire about Angelina.... she will go outside her comfort zone to show what she can do. That is another reason she is so good and has so much confidence. Her voice is so soft and delicate in many parts and then she pushes herself, belting out the higher parts.... then back to soft and delicate again. You can tell toward the end that she is tiring from all the high (and higher) notes and the belting, but she still pulls it off.... what a great job!! Thank you, Ceci, I love your reaction!!

  • @augustajustice9779
    @augustajustice97793 жыл бұрын

    I wondered if that type of singing would fatigue her voice. I am glad that you were able to point out the effort. I think she is too young to ask her voice to do that often. I wonder if Whitney Houston could have done it at 13? I believe that what she does is give herself a practice assignment that explores a technique that she hasn’t done before, hoping to learn certain things about her craft, for herself, her own purposes. I paint landscapes and most of the time I choose a subject that has a problem with expressing light or shadows and I make myself struggle to do it as perfectly as I can imagine, so that I can learn things I think are important. I see her doing that. Why else such a wide range of covers? I don’t see any other wild belting songs in her repertoire and when she writes her own songs the belting is very minimal, if at all. Thank you for looking at this. She has done a good job with a Country Western song, “Nothing Breaks Like a Heart”, which you might enjoy looking at, a totally different genre.

It's sometimes hard to watch experienced reactors react to this song from Angelina because it is one of the rare performances that she does push more than usual and you can tell. It is still amazing to me how well a 12 year old can hold her own with such a big song and make it actually sound really good. I'm still hoping you will react to her first original song that she wrote the lyrics and music for called "What is Life". It is a jazz song written and performed when she was only 11 years old.
