Angela Rye reads names of people killed by police officers

CNN commentator Angela Rye reads out a list of people of color killed by the police across the country to make a point to Trump's White House that the issue of police shootings and violence is a "national disaster."

When cops decide to shoot, they shoot until the target is down. And they know that many, and usually most, shots do not hit the target, and if the target is a zonked out on drugs, as is often the case with deranged lunatics like the pimp Stephon Clark, every shot does not have an effect.

So how can two different police agencies track down killers, known killers, without the Lethal Weapon routine, but a man standing in his backyard literally gets blown away???

Because it's exactly as Angela Rye said. Black people are perceived as targets, white people are reasoned with, and that applies whether the police are white or black. That guy who got shot for walking in the street with his pants down, was shot by a black policeman, who could see that he was obviously unarmed. If that had been a white crazy guy, he wouldn't have been shot, he would probably have been tasered and arrested.

@J DG Me too! That is all I ever talk about because as a black individual I have to deal with the white counterparts' BS! We are sick and tired of being sick and tired of having to deal with white people's privileged BS. Don't get me started on my black hair and white America's delusional standard of beauty; for this reason, my sister's are running around here wearing European hair as they have been told for so long that their hair is not beautiful, but rather undesirable. Who said so? We are behind because y'all stole everything from us and continue to do so as you all appropriate our culture and everything that we do (right down to the cornrows). Let's not forget the thug life look (pants sagging) which many black people find distasteful. Yet, and still the young white generation is running around here trying to achieve what they think is swag, imitating the average black youth. I was just telling another cohort the other day how we created all of the dance moves out here today and how it looks so weird seeing white people mimic dance moves that are typically associated with the black culture and the swag that goes along with it; it looks plain out of order. Whenever do we see white people trying to imitate Asian, Spanish, Indian or any other culture's form of dance; strangely it is always about us. The very people that you all direct your hate toward, you imitate. I can't see the logic in that. along with the other people of other ethnic backgrounds who try to align, be validated, and accepted by the white majority (that won't be for long). #itbafflesme #goAngela

Let's not forget Thicke, Bieber, just to name a few. If we look back into the history of the art of music, one will clearly see the progression of the white recording artists' evolution to be of one that sounds more like R & B and not "pop" or rock and roll; that which we know has always been produced by white recording artists. Constantly, stay stealing, and then you want to tell us to "get over it." On top of that, you all don't even play fair with the thievery, and then have the audacity to say "that we are behind." It also looks funny seeing the facial expressions and the movement of the mouth as these singers try their hardest to imitate R & B which originated with, guess who? BLACKS!

Lets go back to the 40s when hitler was a thing and say that this will never happen again right??? Yea not gonna happen because our weapons make sure that wont ever happen... Also you can act like Australia is a perfect place and i can say that your gun crime has went down as it will when a country who can secure its boarders can police what comes in and out... But lets not forget that crime overall has stayed the exact same and when you banned guns crimes like rape, burglary, and many violent offenses went up in the charts so all you did was fuck over law abiding citizens. I dunno about you but I'm not willing to trade 500000 up to 3 million people who defend their selves each year with a gun for a small portion of lives taken by weapons... Also lets not forget to cut the gun deaths statistics by 2/3 because all of those are suicides

OK, let me follow your logic with some thoughts from me ... 1 - Hitler won't happen again because all of you have guns. 2 - Australia is far from a perfect place, but, we do not slaughter ourselves/each other with weapons. We also are more relaxed/not as angry. 3 - Australia is an island/continent, so harder for people to get in - true. We have had issues with people coming in via tiny boats from up north (Indonesia etc). Many people drowned en route. 4 - crime has not stayed at exactly the same. Rape/burglary/many other violent crimes did not go "up in the charts" when this happened. You are imagining this. 5 - In your mind, it is OK to lose a few with weapons because you are saving 500,000-3,000,000 people a year who can defend themselves with weapons. If that is even remotely true, then your country is doomed. 6 - suicides don't count in gun deaths. Sweet Jesus. I believe that you do genuinely believe all this. All the best.

I'm black and I shit my pants everytime I see blue lights flashing. I remember the home alarm went off in my house and I didn't answer the phone in time so a unit was called to my house. The front door was open and two officers came in and saw me sitting down watching tv with my elderly grandmother in the other room. The one black officer checked out the house while the white officer had his gun drawn on me as I tried to explain that I lived there. I even told him to look at all the photos of me around the house to confirm I was telling the truth. The senior black officer had to calm the other down and apologized and went on his way. Black people are perceived as a threat first and one sudden move would've made me a statistic in my own home. I just glad I'm still here today to talk about it now.

He was one of the workers there and if I hadn't produced the receipt for the merchandise who knows what would have happened to me in that situation. He is black and I am black but he had no qualms about lying to try to make himself look good and me look bad. I'm guessing he must've been a self-hater trying to take it out on other black people....It's just shameful and embarrassing!

Ken suggests that because some black police were involved in the killing of some of the black people who were killed that this means the killings could not be a result of institutional racism, which is not true. The racism is in the policies and how the policies are carried out. Black persons who become police officers are able to do so because they are capable of fitting into the dynamic and culture of the police. We live in a society that sees black people as less important & expendable and those black police are part of a culture that strongly believes this. Some people dont have a lot of self esteem. Im not convinced that police in general believe black people to be more violent. They just dont care enough to not kill unarmed black people or they would make changes in policies that would lessen the possibility of killing unarmed people & certainly take more recourse than terminating the officers with their pension. Citizens among minorities in other western societies are not being killed by the police at ridiculous rates and nothing being done to stop it. Our society says it sees black people as more violent so even some black people buy into this idea, and are more likely to be accepted onto the police force who believes this although not born out in facts. At some point we have to separate fact from fiction and make policies that actually serve communities, not just the police. Being scared is no excuse to kill someone not posing any real threat to you.

Manly Moesha First drop the fake black power picture, we all know that your a white racist man. Secondly pick up a book an educate yourself. Yes there was an African slave trade. But Africans didn't enslave just to enslave their own kind. They enslaved other blacks they were in war with not their own. Just like the British enslave people from other white countries like France and Spain. Just like the Romans enlave other white people and made them fight to the death in the colosseum. So instead of imprisoning them or just murdering them they sold them. (Not Right But True) White racist Europeans are the ones that bought, shipped and actually enlaved the African Americans. Just like it was Europeans Americans that killed and stole this land from the Native Americans. Cops in the early days were bounty hunters that got paid to catch and in some cases kill criminals... Runway slaves were just that criminals and their crime was running away while black. Now it's driving, shopping and standing with a phone while black. Different time same racism...

There needs to be reform of the way LE is trained to interact with people. Too many are killed period. When this happens we’re told the officer followed procedural. That proper procedure needs to be reviewed and changed. I don’t think arguing about the race of the victim is constructive. We should support our police and ask them what they need to stop killing people. More help for people with mental issues for example? Gun reform? Most of us carry cell phones and have never touched a gun. But they think anyone at any time might be about to shoot them? It shouldn’t be like that. It’s another example of how guns hurt this country.
