    Did anyone else see that 10 amp fuse move in the clips when the pencil barely brushed against it-?? I watched it three times, its loose in the clips-! Not a good thing if drawing amperage, some serious arcing there if testing current. Squeeze those clips together Paul-!-lol I have four of the 8000 series meters and was really close to buying one of these the first time I saw it, but after seeing some reviews I think ill wait and see if they improve some of the initial teething pains common to any new design. I saw another review claiming because of the display etc the battery life should be fairly short, if so thats another negative. I really like the idea of the display too, but doesnt seem as well executed as it could be. I agree with Paul, this meters design seems to be more of a marketing ploy than anything, if your going to put in a nice display make it an OLED, this white on black is interesting but rather odd after you look at it for awhile. But its only just been introduced, maybe they will listen to comments and reviews and make the right improvements so that Aneng has another hit on their hands. Above all its supposed to be a precision instrument, now that its getting up a bit in price theres no excuse for all the ranges to be accurate and responsive. As Paul has said its not hard these days to have accuracy in a budget meter, same goes for this one regardless of fancy display and push button interface .

    I noticed the 10A fuse moving too! It'll just get hot with any appreciable current. The author should open his meter up, remove the fuse, and squeeze the contacts together. I bought this meter branded B-Side ZT-X, and the fuse in mine is tight. My board is newer. His is rev 0.5, mine is 0.7. The resistor location bridged by solder is now gone, the current shunt is much longer and extends all the way up to the 10A fuse. The solder pads of the fuse clips are now larger. The solder joints he didn't like on the voltage reference are still poorly filled on the top side (although are likely OK on the circuit side of this board)

    Sandor ... it's a toy meter - if you want to do hobbyist projects on components that use 1-12 v (or as you've read 36v max) you are looking at 36x10=360w of power and the hardware rated as capable of handling it. They put these restrictions on this type of tool for the same reason they impose current ratings on wire. The thinner the wire the lower the current that wire can handle without over heating and burning you. These toy meters are subject to the same laws of physics and if you insist on connecting into a 220v circuit you could potentially increase the power load 6 times to 2.2Kw which at worst case could prove lethal and could well cause the meter to become dangerously hot. it certainly explains Paul's decision to use his own leads but why there is no mention of these basic safety lessons in these reviews is beyond my understanding Testing mains is always potentially dangerous and doing it using one of these mickey mouse meters is just asking for trouble. With this type of meter you'd be strongly advised to limit your ambitions to the sort of voltages that come out of batteries ... and even then current testing LiLon batteries is fraught with danger if you're a beginner.

    17:50, I do have the same Multimeter, but branded with the original manufacturer's name, Zoyi-ztx by Zotek. The fahrenheit value is wrongly interpreted in relation to celcius. Do the calculation, 154 degrees of celcius is equals to 309 degrees fahrenhite, not 565, as it is seen in the meter.

    Also meant to ask, did you see the 'roo man from down under rip this meter apart - not just literally. lol He seemed right on some of his observations and testing, but I swear you could fix all faults & plate a meter in gold and he would still rip it apart. On a side note, I believe the rebranded Bryman meters he sells had some teething pains of their own. One came back with an arc over on the range switch and others had a range switch problem and the company had to send out "disc shims" to tighten up the clearance in the range switch. But to his credit he showed it all on YT.

    Something not right with the temperature 180c = approx 358f not the 614f displayed there (approx 323c). 180c is marginally less than the melting point of 60/40 (183c). Round 17:52 When you see the reading hits 140c the f drops abruptly from a wild 545f to a more accurate 280f. I've seen badly inaccurate readings but never seen the (presumably) on chip MPU do that before. Or is it an add on temp chip? Looks like the firmware on the COB is seriously flawed.

  • @jamest.5001
    @jamest.50016 жыл бұрын

    The display looks good on my end. I have been thinking about getting another meter. My first was a green Lee. Clamp meter. I no longer have it. I have a Klein tools clamp meter . and another clamp meter. It is a ideal meter. It does DC and AC current. The Klein doesn't. I need more high current DC measurement than ac. But I do need to measure it occasionally. I am powering my home with solar power. Off the grid. So I need to keep my circuits in spec. I try to stay under 15 amps per circuit. I also use a generator for larger loads . like the washer and drier. Dish washer. I'm getting a gas stove. And have a gas watter heater. I also need to check the frequency of my generator output! My ups doesn't like being powered by the generator. It says over frequency over voltage. But it doesn't have to be off much to alarm. Like .5Hz and 129v or so. And it lets you know it. I'm thinking about trying to make a arduino govenor to control the engine throttle. Because I could use a couple of them or more. How could you get a arduino to measure the Hz the gen is outputing? I guess a tachometer output would be easier. Use a small actuator to keep the throttle under control when load changes. The older engines used a flap blown by the fan to regulate the engine speed. Then it went centrifugal . witch is better. But still it doesn't know the generator output. And doesn't always keep its settings. What do you think about my idea? How would you design it??? May the force be with you!!!

    Some minor feedback from this circuit designer: The color of current shunt being not looking like copper is not a concern. Current shunts are made with metal alloys to provide a precise resistance for a given length. What matters is the temperature coefficient and how it is calibrated given that it is not a 4 terminal shunt. Some might be 10ppm/degree C others 1000ppm/degree C. A big difference! The poor looking solder on the voltage reference chip is a symptom of either too-fast wave soldering or 'through-hole reflow soldering' from being used. The IC leads didn't reach soldering temperature near the IC body, so the solder didn't flow. Hopefully the circuit side of these joints look better. I bought a newer revision of this meter and I cannot even see solder on 2 of these leads, yet they must be soldered! Not very rugged for sure! Not IPC quality either. Here is why this meter is a good choice: I love the pushbuttons of this meter, it allows one handed selection to change settings. The meter can be on a table and one finger can turn it on and off, select the scale, etc. The large characters of this bright display are beautiful. Yes, the same measurements can be made with a cheaper meter, for sure.

    For price /functions i rather stay with the 8008 / 8009. The inverted display, bargrapth and buttons are add-ons but does not contribute a lot for functions for the extra money. The good thing are the 5x20mm fuses which are more easy to find in local stores here, even in ceramic format. On the other hand, for more money we can get a better meter, maybe with better fuses, like the uni-t 61e

    It's just a opinion. For 38~50 Euro you can get maybe the uni-t 210D/E clamp meter, uni-t 139B/C, not to be a uni-t fan boy , but they have a good price for starting electronics and can be easly found on local stores. you have aalso some mastech MS8265 .

    I would say if Aneng wanted to do something worthwhile, take the current 8009, make it the size of the new Q1 with a bigger display and bar graph. Then add the missing 10/100 lower volt/current ranges kangaroo Dave complains about, then with it being larger you can give it a better more useable stand, add a "rel" button, and add a feature I just ran into on a little Mustool meter I have. On the Mustool MT108N the backlight gives the option of holding down the button for one beep and a 25 second or so light time, or holding it down a second longer the light just stays on until turned off, what a great feature-!. This ought to be implement on all decent meters, the ten or fifteen seconds some of these back lights have can really be aggravating. I say leave the manual range switch alone, the 8009 already has an excellent manual range switch and as someone here put it buttons can possibly be pushed by accident - a manual range switch cant. Finally it would be nice to see a little rubber surround of some kind on it. Of course, all these changes cost money and if you add too many features then the price makes other meters look more attractive. Then again, the Chinese can excel at keeping prices down and value up.

    About the rubber case i felt the same when i was doing some measurements on my near my TV furniture ( wood) , i just push a little the probes and it fell off right on the floor and got scratched on the screen. The multimeter falls off easly . I will glue some adesive with grip on the lower side so it doesn't grip again

    Something is not right with that thermocouple. When you used heat it made a big jump between 200 and 400 degrees. Ice water should read about 33 to 35 degrees.

    I dont think its worth the higher price compared to the 8008/8009. It doesnt seem to perform any better and it doesnt really add anything useful. 2 things came to my mind right away: Its a lot easier to accidentally press one of those buttons and switch to a different mode while doing measurements compared to a classical rotary switch. And that display needs a lot more power compared to a classical one while not being any more readable at all.

    I agree on the buttons being easy to hit without meaning to. I really liked the idea of the display and buttons on this new meter at first, but then after looking at it awhile the display seems a little odd looking. I saw another review from Dave down under showing how the battery life was severely limited due to the display, probly why they had to go to AA batteries. If it was me, a more effective redesign might be to fix the few shortcomings of the 8009 like the prop stand, add missing low volt/amp ranges some have complained about, and replace those tiny hard to find fuses with bigger easier to find ones hopefully in HRC type. In addition they could make this new 8009 a bit bigger, maybe make it the size of the Q1 only with a bigger standard display with bar graph. These mods would make the 8009 an even bigger hit as long as the price didnt get crazy.

    Yes ive seen the 870, have ya seen arturs review and teardown of it-? Not a bad meter but the interior is shockingly vacant and flat as described by artur-lol In fact I left a comment on his review because for some reason his dry understated somewhat humorous commentary of the 870 struck me funny, I dont know why. Truth is I had the meter bug for awhile and I have so many meters now im sure at least four of them if not more will cover anything I need to do-lol

    I didnt see that review but I got one about a week ago. There really isnt much in it but I like the extra current ranges. Besides that it is pretty much just a bigger 8009. Which is not a bad thing at all. I dont really care about the lacking protection cuz I dont really do anything above 15V DC anyway

    18ma battery draw with the AAA batteries gives you a 160 battery life on this thing. Watch Dave Jones review. The display fades out at 2.3v. which is pitiful. No way would i buy this. I do like the 8008 meter though.
