Oh, Danny boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling from glen to glen and down the mountainside. The summer's gone and all the roses are falling. It's you, it's you must go and I must bide. But come ye back when summer's in the meadow. Or when the valley's hushed and white with snow. It's I'll be here in sunshine or in shadow. Oh, Danny boy, oh, Danny boy, I love you so. Oh, Danny boy, oh, Danny boy, I love you so.

Probably the most underrated crooner ever. People talk about Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosby in sacred tones and of course, they did have their own unique magic. Technically however, Andy knew how to touch people deep with his voice and express a song with way more light and shade than all the others.

He is far more sensitive than either Crosby or Sinatra and a much better singer than either of them. He never had a cult following like those two did but he could sing circles around them both. If you want to know how not to sing this song, listen to Crosby, it'll put you to sleep. Bing had a very beautiful voice but he never touched the heart or even tried to. Sinatra sang from the heart but his voice was not that beautiful, really.

My grandpa died last September. He wished my cousins would learn this song they didn't before he died sadly. So last week we went on a six hour drive to my grandpas favorite lake where all the relatives would camp and have a great time. We all went there about 40 relatives from around America came to it and we camped for a few days. We put a shot of whiskey in his ashes then sunk it in his favorite fishing spot. (we tied together 5 boats). And after we did that my cousins sang this with a guitar and now every time I hear it I cry.

For my money, this version by Andy Williams is the best I've seen. It's done live in a TV studio in front of a live studio audience and millions of folks watching on TV (back then, only three channels). Indeed his voice was so pure, so beautiful. And he sang those amazingly long notes with no punch-ins, no pitch correctors, no effects on his vocal... just his magnificently controlled vocal instrument, on perfect pitch, with such expression of loneliness... absolutely the best! He was an amazing talent, and funny as hell every week on his show... thanks for sharing this, Louis!

Oh Danny boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling From glen to glen, and down the mountain side The summer's gone, and all the roses falling 'Tis you, 'tis you must go and I must bide. But come ye back when summer's in the meadow Or when the valley's hushed and white with snow 'Tis I'll be here in sunshine or in shadow Oh Danny boy, oh Danny boy, I love you so. But when ye come, and all the flowers are dying If I am dead, as dead I well may be You'll come and find the place where I am lying And kneel and say an "Ave" there for me. And I shall hear, tho' soft you tread above me And all my grave will warm and sweeter be For you will bend and tell me that you love me And I shall sleep in peace until you come to me.

When you watch this, you are seeing and hearing one of the greatest singers of all time, handling a timeless melody in a unique and truly beautiful way. Danny Boy is a wonderful song, sung many times by many singers. It's only right that there should be versions that set another standard - defining versions of true beauty, by singers whose talent can do proper justice to the greatness of the song. Andy Williams. What can you say. If they sing in Heaven, this is what it sounds like.

What a beautiful song done as well as anyone could do it. TV used to be a unifying and enlightening force in America. You'd never see this today. Sad.

A traditional Irish folk, those were the days in war times, a farmer had three sons and two of them already passed away in war. The youngest son Danny was also recruited and had to leave home to join the army and the pipes were calling to urge new guys move. How sad as a father and Peace on Earth

beautiful arrangement--and its very difficult to beat Williams soaring, tender lyric tenor--the song begs to be sung by a tenor and Andy sings with heart.
