Andy Summers - Roland GR-300 Guitar Synthesizer Demo with Jools Holland - G-808
Музыка
www.joness.com/gr300/andy-sum...
Andy Summers of The Police gives a demonstration of the Roland GR-300 guitar synthesizer with the Roland G-808 guitar synthesizer controller to Jools Holland. Andy shows how he used the GR-300 in the smash hit, "Don't Stand So Close To Me". This is the same rig that Andy is featured with in magazine advertising and in the Roland Users Group Magazine, Volume 2, Number 2.

That's Andy's Roland Electric guitar there(I don't think he has it now), and as mentioned in the video, he used it for the "Don't Stand So Close to Me"(that chilling opening sequence to the song) and also as mentioned elsewhere on "Secret Journey".

‘O My God’ from Synchronicity.
it's weird that if you search KZread for Andy Summers and "Roland" or "guitar Synth" there's literally only this video. you'd think there'd be more info!

It's weird. You rarely hear about the Roland at all. There is a video or two of Metheny demoing/talking about it.

I am wondering if there was an issue with the video playback, since the frame rate between the UK and US are different.
Looks like they are at George Martin's AIR studios on Montserrat, during Ghosts in Machine sessions.

Absolutely. You can hear this effect on Secret Journey. Almost the same if not the same chords too.

I liked the overall sound of Zenyatta Mondata which was recorded in Holland. Ghost in the machine has a live feel to it. It was recorded to be played live. Something they learned early on.

Bless Andy Summers, wonderful guitarist but all I can think when I hear him talking is '... but our ampifiers go up to eleven ...' Nice demo though.
I had one of those Roland Guitar synths round about 1982. It basically made two sounds, but they were both really good.

That is a great observation. Pat Metheny has been using the GR-300 for one really great sound for more than 40 years. But these days we expect synths to have 1024 sounds, when really you only need one or two great sounds.

Andy is using a Roland GR-300 with a pedal plugged in to sweep the low pass filter. The pedal is just a volume pedal, it is the GR-300 that makes the magic

1981, The Police in Montserrat, it was a BBC docu of the Ghost in the Machine recording sessions. It is an extra on my DVD of Every Breath You Take the Videos. The reason for Jools, is Squeeze were also signed to A&M
