    I just got my hands on the vg99 finally. I have had the 8, the 88v1, just got the 88v2 earlier this year (big upgrade), but the pitch shifting always has a lot of artifacts in delay weirdness in it. I was hoping the 99 would be just slightly better, and as your video shows it's completely seamless. I turned into a Telly mode (guitar only) and made some recordings of open G tuning, and then pulled out my real Telly with open G playing through the exact same Amp Sim, and you can't tell which one was the e standard tuned guitar, and which one was the real telly actually tuned to open g. One would think Roland cloud would come out with this tech in their offerings and sell a slim line gk-usb model. The fact that they could do this almost 20 years ago, tells you that they can have something light years better now.

    @@WayneJoness Yea, I think the only two things that I like about the 88v2 vs the 99, are the Organ seems a lot better (and this could be because I am not sure how to use the 99 yet), and the Sitar effect. The Sitar on the 88v2 is absolutely amazing, but it's kind of a let down on the 99 for some reason. Again maybe because I am configuring things wrong, or my sensitivity is set up wrong. I just got it a few days ago and honestly i am still playing on some heavily modified presets rather than factory. I will factory reset it this week and play around some more with it. I will say though, the pitch shifting on it is mind blowing. Now i wish that I could figure out how to configure the D Beam how to do only the B string. A lot I think I still have to learn. Also there is supposed to be a 12string effect for any guitar model, not a clue where that is at? lol

    Recorded the tv programme as a schoolboy in the 1980s. I couldn’t get my ear around the sound of a ‘trumpet’ slightly delayed coming out after the plectrum hitting the strings on the Roland as he played and him really feeling it -Are You Going With Me live.

    Wayne very cool video. I'm the guy who sent you speed/time tests for gr300 and many synths midi a lot of years ago. I have bought this gp 10 and in my opinion the gr300 patch is faulty . I've spent a lot of time to set up at the best the pickup to see if this was a problem, anyway in the sound one octave up there is always a noise like a double note, like some kind of distortion that makes the sound unusable for long notes. Of course i completely removed normal pu sound and stopped any other string to avoid resonance from them. As soon as possible I'll try to send you a clear sample of what I say. Also the attack for me is orrible , its noisy and scratchy and that is not normal on my gr300 this doesnt happen... good attempt roland , may be next time ...😅

    Very nice comparison! Can the GR-300 sound be achieved on the SY-1000, GP-10, and GR-55 without a hex pickup? It looks like the VG-99 doesn't have a GK input, so it appears to not need a hex pickup.

  • @WayneJoness
    @WayneJoness2 ай бұрын

    Hey @TechnoRiff have a look at the front panel of the VG-99, there is a 13-pin GK hex pickup front and center! Yes, a GK input is required.

  • @WayneJoness
    @WayneJoness2 ай бұрын

    @@TechnoRiff Well, I think the VG-99 has the best design of any Roland guitar synth ever. I like having the input on the front, along with all the easy access to the controls. But you are correct, the 13 pin input is usually in the back.

  • @TechnoRiff
    @TechnoRiff2 ай бұрын

    @@WayneJoness Front mounting the GK input does make sense considering the stress created by rear mounted cables, expensive and more fragile as they are. I can get some of the classic GR-300 type sounds on my SY-200 although with less control over the filtering. Not as rich sounding nor as smooth feeling as the 300, but the SY allows a regular guitar input which is a plus. Thanks!
