Andy Hamilton is a genius a thousand times
Week Ending was a great weekly treat. So was Drop the Dead Donkey.
Briefly met Andy at one of his book launches with my son. Really great and funny. He willingly gave of his time talking to my son who was off to Uni. Great bloke! Postscript: his words of advice helped my son enormously.

Oh, that's wonderful! You always hope people will be as lovely as they seem, but to take the time like that is so above and beyond the usual celebrity niceties. What a top bloke he is! ❤

He’s brilliant on the Infinite Monkey Cage podcast too
Good Lord.. Who Dares Wins & Drop The Dead Donkey are golden comedy memories for me. Andy has a fantastic comedy pedigree and has written some of my favourite shows of the last 40 years.
One of the great wits of our time.
Andy is a legend
'People who couldn't get away.' Brilliant!
Loved, still love Harrys Game.
Back in student days I had the pleasure of doing lighting for the CULES shows in which Andy starred - I remember the Tarzan sketch well. He could handle any audience including prisoners. A great guy and I was so pleased when he emerged from the back office to appear on our screens.
Two very pleasant people to listen to.
Andy's writing for 'Old Harrys Game' on BBC iPlayer was excellent.
Love Andy Hamilton
So looking forward to the stage version of Drop the Dead Donkey next year. Genius writer.
The story about the impersonator could be a film or a play.
Yeah need Andy back on I want to here everything about Outnumbered such a great show!
oh for the days when four pounds pay was good 🙂 thankyou for sharing this.. now to hear the longer version..
Very pleasant and entertaining to watch by two affectionately adored comic heroes!
Used to play football at Holland Park with Andy guy Jenkins and lindy oldroydabout 40 years ago really lovely people really fun people with great sense of humour
I have all episodes of Shelley on DVD and often re-watch them.
I was rewatching 'Drop The Dead Donkey' recently (for the first time in ages). I knew Andy co-wrote it, but was surprised to hear his voice as the off-screen character Gerry, the hapless and doomed cameraman.... It was a great show, hopefully their return to the world of news will be entertaining! :) (I hope the stage show makes it to video for us foreigners to see)

Yeah I watch DTDD all the way through every few years or so. And it took me a few reruns of it to pick up on Andy's voice as Damien's fall guy cameraman. lol
Top bloke.
Not on topic, but Rob, the gasp that I gasped realizing it was you in the Barbie movie! Absolutely delightful. Hope Sugar is doing her very best 🤣🤣.
That flew by! I'm not familiar with his work except for the little I've seen on QI, but this interview was very interesting. Off to look him up now. Thank you for introducing me to another funny Brit. Is there no end to them? Lol

@@leadoucet1432 There's a good chance you know his writing, because he's been behind huge swathes of British comedy over the years - including shows like Drop the Dead Donkey and Outnumbered. He's a great performer too, but most of that work has been on radio - of which the greatest is Old Harry's Game, well worth tracking down...
My dad went to Westminster City School (the comprehensive, not the private school) and he Andy Hamilton was a few years above him. He always used to say what he remembered most about him was that his nickname amongst the other kids was 'Don't take the piss' as that was his response to all the kids relentlessly mocking his stature. I wish I could make contact with Andy to confirm, even though he may not enjoy the memory 😅
Hamilton caustic king for over 30 years. Noteworthy: everything anyone ever said about Geoffrey Perkins was affectionate.
That Wi-Fi joke is pure gold

Aye, that bit made me laugh. Barry Cryer is another of the UK's most prolific comedy writers.
As always thank you for this. Can’t do podcasts so this channel is gold 😊
I'd love a new series of Old Harrys Game - it was such a gem that show. The characters were so brilliant and it was so smart.
Another great interview
I've got a lot of time for Andy Hamilton 👍🏼
Love this guy
Hmm interesting :-) In 70/71 I was getting 5 quid a week in a vac job as a dustman in Solihull .
Yes Bryn
The end joke was told on ISIHAC - in which Rob and Andy were absolutely brilliant.
I do wanted to go and see him but I had already booked my holiday!
WTF, heard Drop the Dead Donkey was coming back, and then he pulled the carpet away and it's on stage ... we want a new series!
Old Harry's Game is sublime
Jeffery Perkins... R.I.P.
Loved the wifi joke Eric in Canada
Love to go and see an Andy Hamilton show, but how can I be sure it's really him and not some high-grade imposter? I do not want to be scammed out of a ton of my hard-earned spondulicks.

what a bizarre story!
I wish you would have asked him about Fisher.
I seem to remember Shelly always having a dig at Andrew Lloyd Webber. Wonder if those were Andy's episodes? The story of the guy passing himself off as Andy was fascinating. There's a documentary in that. Call it 'Finding Andy'
I have always been of the opinion that writing comedy is the hardest thing to do,more so than drama.
👍👍👍👍
15:52 How would it be normally? 😲
Well , the impersonator story needs to be written .
Is the episode of the Simpsons where they constantly refer to a kid called Andy Hamilton about him or is it a really weird coincidence. They always use both names throughout and he ends up writing material for Krusty. The character is voiced by Jonah Hill
June and July are still very disappointing lol
Sugar Daddy
At the risk of being accused of being a pedant, and rightly so. Polmont is near Falkirk, not Glasgow.
I'm here first!
He's a star? Thanks for the update.

Yes. He created and wrote 'Drop the Dead Donkey' which is one of the best comedy series ever. He has written for Not the Nine O'clock News, Smith & Jones, Les Dawson, and the Two Ronnies (amongst many others). He makes numerous and very witty appearances on shows such as Have I Got News for You, and QI, and has acted, directed and produced many tv shows.

@@UncleBenavision So why is he is Star, when no other writer of a sitcom is? And being a panelist on HIGNFY does not make you a star. I like the chap, he is very funny and talented. I don't think Brydon himself is a star. Sorry. Genuinely not trolliing.

@@David-pt8ge Well 'Star' obviously means different things to different people. Sorry, I thought you were dismissing him and his achievements.

@@David-pt8ge I wouldn't use 'star' myself, to describe him or a lot of people but it's basically another way of saying famous, well known and so on. Often someone who is known outside of the thing that made them well known. When people say their name, you know who it is without being told what they are well known for. As you like him, I'll assume I don't need to tell you why he's famous and well known. Also there are others, not many but they are there. Steven Moffat is a (former) sitcom writer but also well known outside of that.
