He's sort of got a point, but he's wrong. His frustration is that it feels like his club's presence at the top table never translates to success. And success for him is a title, domestic or european. Arsenal's top four status kept the sponsors coming in, kept them on tv and ensured season tickets were bought. Nothing more.

If you're in Champions League you get money for every match you play. Also experience for the young players. The issue is that the club doesn't invest the money back into player purchase. They had to pay for the stadium, I think.

For me I'd take winning any trophy at Spurs. We've come close and lost a number of times in recent years but I stil lwant us to keep trying because I wantto se esome silvrewaer being won in our new stadium. I think Conte can deliver it but I think he will need more support from upstairs.

Only point in the Caller’s defence; Arsenal winning a couple of domestic cups has nothing to do with UCL qualification- and their history has shown top 4 does not guarantee the club actually improves from within, based as it was towards the end of Wenger’s time. They can be in one year and just as easily out the next; agreed, they aren’t going to contend for the main trophy and would be more likely to secure a Europa league (then again, this would be the same situation if they fell out in the group stages) However… everything besides that point is totally flawed/ rubbish. Basically saying if they’re unlikely to win, why even bother; Liverpool may as well have not turned up in 2005 with that mentality; no point in mid table club’s fans even turning up to league matches, if that’s the case, cause they won’t win the title. No point in any teams besides Liverpool and City, maybe Chelsea, even pushing to win as many league games as possible once they’re beyond relegation. He’s failing to grasp that the experience of the games themselves makes being in the competition worth-while, otherwise why would fans even care if their clubs are relegated from a league they wouldn’t win anyhow. Even the experience of Ajax and Benfica fans this season; they don’t seriously expect to win the trophy, but they’ve had great moments and being beaten doesn’t take away from the experience of competing at the highest level.

Last year, tottenham beat leicester to get to the 7th spot and push arsenal down to 8th. Some arsenal fans were shouting just like this, 'it does not matter', 'what is the point'. Arsenal fans are some of the silliest out there.

The benefit is the money. How the club choose to use the money is up to them. CL football helped pay off the Emirates. Other clubs can use it for transfers. The benefit is also playing along side the best in Europe. If you want to aim for the top, you have to compete with them. Winning it is the dream, but without competing in it regularly, your club and your players will lose the pedigree to deliver. The benefit is signing players from other teams in the PL. Some teams have great players like Zaha, Neves, Lamptey etc. These players would be much more inclined to leave their respective clubs for CL football. In terms of signing from other leagues, it doesn't make much of a difference because the PL has the money and the status that players are after.

Caller is correct. Won the fa cup in 05 and then next trophies was 14. So 9 years.

Without sounding arrogant Manchester united is the only club who has the finances and player pull to be able to deal with a season out of the CL whereas it is fundemental to arsenal and spurs progression, ultimately Manchester united aren't immune to a CL hiatus but can cope for one season without and still progress

@@whydouwanttoknow1945 have arsenal made progress tho, i mean real progress mate.. they are on to concede more goals than last season and are still as toothless as ever up top all the while having an advantage this season with less games and more recovery time.. spurs ended up appointing Nuno who it has been well documented was not there first choice or even 2nd or 3rd but perhaps as a consequence of missing out on CL they settled for him, he is a good coach but it was never going to work with the fans instantly underwhelmed, they now have their man but had they been able to offer him CL from the start maybe conte would have came in in the summer, they now have to meet his demands and he has made it apparent that if the players he wants aren't recruited in the window he will walk away, spurs having CL football will be able to provide him with the elite players he wants to fit his system which could well challenge in a few seasons if they keep him, the key to keeping conte and Kane and bringing in new targets of real quality all depends on spurs ability to consolidate CL football not just acheive it for one season.. Manchester united need CL football to be able to compete at the the top, you must consolidate CL football if you have aspirations of challenging that is why it is important for mufc not to fall out of it for too long if they have aspirations of eventually challenging city n Liverpool but right now it is much more fundamental to spurs and arsenal giving each clubs circumstances.. and tbh it is even more necessary for arsenal than spurs as conte is undeniably a world class coach who in the event of finishing say 5th, could still find real quality in the summer to work with and have spurs much closer to the top than they are now but Mikel arteta will almost certainly fall further behind without it to offer in this upcoming window

Ah the top 4 myth is being pedalled AGAIN! Rich is absolutely right. What "attractive players" did Arsenal get in the years they finished in the Champions League? Andy can't answer it. In fact Arsenal lost more world class players than they gained during that time. Arsenal need to develop a winning mentality. A trophy winning mentality. Being in the Champions League does NOTHING for Arsenal. If they got into the Europa League and won that, imagine what that could do for the younger players at Arsenal? It did wonders for Atletico. It helped progress Chelsea. It's clearly benefitted Villareal; Arsenal, Spurs and Manchester United should be aiming to be in the Europa League next season and win it. Being in the Champions League does not mean you attract better players. Being in the Premier League does that. The financial benefit is absolutely immaterial to these billion dollar behemoths.

Arsenal would have lost more of their better players, more frequently, had they not had Champions League football all those years, either from players wanting out or the club actively selling them to balance costs on the stadium. The draw of the Champions League will allow Arsenal to attract players (and potentially a manager) who already have that winning mentality. Dismiss it all you want, but players and managers value having a crack at that competition very highly. How do you develop a winning mentality with a young squad who haven't won anything? Just put all your eggs in less valued competitions rather than challenge at the highest level? Are you listening to yourself?

The world class players had that moved on from Arsenal were: Vieira (moved as soon as the Italian teams came knocking), Henry (wanted to go to Barcelona to WIN the Champions League), Fabregas (again, moved as soon as Barcelona came running) and Van Persie (as soon as he was injury free, he bolted). You could make an argument for Alex Song being one iof the best in the world in his position at the time before, again, bolting to Barcelona as quick as he could. So youre simply not correct when it comes to that. I could also make the point that players like Nasri, Sagna, Adebayor Clichy etc were far more interested in joining a Manchester City team that I dont believe was in Europe at the time (certainly not consistently) than they were staying at Arsenal. Part One Debunked. Part two, the Champions League is not a "draw". Come off it. The last world class player Arsenal signed, Aubameyang, did not join due to Champions League football. Look at players signed by Premier League clubs... Firpo, Coutinho, Daka, James, Guimares, Kulusevski etc were they attracted by the lure of Europe? No. They were attracted by the riches of the Premier League. The players that sign for Arsenal this summer will be signed regardless of whether they finish 4th or 5th. Arsenal need to develop a winning menatality and the Europa League can facilitate that. Follow the Atletico Madrid 2011-12 blueprint or the trail set by Villareal last season

I think the team that would benefit from it are West Ham because unlike the other 3, you don't expect them to be able to develop into a giant European side so for them it'd be more like a holiday. Sadly they cant string two wins together atm. They should just get rid of the 4th spot going to the Champions League for English clubs. The only English sides that can win it are Man City, Liverpool and Chelsea.

no, his point is, that if we play UCL that will take away a lot of strength from us in Premier League...... and we definitely have bigger chance to challenge the 1st spot in PL, than in UCL...... in order to win UCL, we would have to have the same quality as City or Liverpool...... so what's the point....... we don't need money from UCL...... we have enough money to buy anyone...... the problem is, that top players won't sign for Arsenal...... why would they if they can go to City, Bayern or Real Madrid
