Eddie Hearn wasn’t doing that well in signings recently, but making the moves to find and sign Andy made me gain a lot of respect for him. There’s a lot of implicit anti Cuban bias by a lot of the US promoters -- and I respect that immensely.

Always said Hearn does nothing for boxing in the US. Today I was humbled w/ Hearn announcing a big card in my hometown Detroit featuring: Alycia💣, Hitchins/Love, & *ANDY CRUZ*

@Boxing Brain Yes, but the significance of Hearn having a card in Detroit is bc I can’t recall the last time Detroit had a sanctioned title fight featuring a major broadcaster. New York is literally a hub for big fights lol

Ismael Salas would be a good fit as a trainer. He has the experience being on the Cuban national team. He also gets his fighters to generate the most amount of power whilst utilising upper body movement.

Yeah these were exactly my concerns when I heard he was going pro. His exhibition pro debut is on KZread and he looked very uncomfortable and throws slapping combinations. He also seemed to have issues with any sort of physicality. I think his dominance in the amateurs won't be reflected in the pros, even if he fixes some of his issues but I hope I'm proven wrong.

  • @cobravision8837

Well.. technically..he's already been a successful pro. He was 20-0 in the world series of boxing which were 5-8 round bouts with Pro scoring rules and 8 ounce gloves. Literally unsanctioned pro bouts that are recorded as amateur victories. The only fighter who was as similarly successful in the WSB Was Lomachenko and Julio La Cruz. Both two time gold medalists as well.

The litmus test for such an accomplished amateur would be far higher than the WSB if you want to count it as pro bouts. Competition in the traditional pro’s also far supersedes the WSB. We’ll see what adjustments Andy makes.

Havent been this hyped about debuts since Loma turned pro. However, Gomez' style seems to be suited for amateurs. He's ALWAYS on the edge and he likes to do things so cleanly... Not exactly what he'll get in pro boxing. I can see him getting dropped like Robeisy or battered badly on the inside if he doesn't fully adapt. Still, his reflexes, technique, footwork and arsenal are all INSANE. I hope they make Keyshawn fight him so that Key can avenge his 4 losses and finish this dude. I'm betting my ass Key SMOKES him in pro boxing since when they fought in amateurs, Gomez had a HUGE experience advantage and Key hadn't matured by that moment. Completely different story now. Plus KShawn's skillset is designed for pro boxing and he was limiting himself in amateurs. He's a chess player, not a sprinter. 3 rds was just too little.

I struggle to see Keyshawn "smoking" him. Can't downplay the mental advantage Cruz will have being 4-0 over him. If Keyshawn did win, it would be by close margins, and mostly from roughing him up and Using American pro tactics and maneuvers. But Cruz would still make Davis miss and pay enough to make it close.

@@cobravision8837 Many examples of pros beating amateurs who beat them or had close fights. Ryan is 3-3 with Haney and Ugas outpointed Bud in the amateurs and Danny is 1-1 with Bud .... like those 2 are beating Bud or Ryan is beating Haney today, no way jose. Keyshawn has more of a pro style and more pro experience plus 3 of the losses were super close SD which means judges had Keyshawn winning on some cards. Andy slaps a lot and he needs a serious pro transition and a few fights then we can talk

It will be an Adjustment just like it was for Robeisy. But I actually thought he did a lot of good things in that Vasquez fight, and this is a former world champ in his "pro debut". The key will be which trainer he links up with, and his strength and conditioning regimine from this point forward.

If he's doing good in the amateurs with no head gear and all the changes they made recently to amateurs to make it more pro friendly hell be fine in the actual pros. Pros has matchmaking and record building. Ur hardly ever in a 50/50 fight if ur a big name as an amateur going into pros. Look at Loma for example. He got a title shot his second fight because he had 2 gold medals and this is his first time in his pro career he's been an underdog against Haney and he doesn't hit with a lot power and he's done fine as pro. When ur an amateur at a high level, every fight is a 50/50 fight. There's no contract negotiations, no rehydration clauses or catchweights, no changing the glove size or ring size. None of that. Amateur boxing at the level is harder than pro boxing because every fight is a 50/50 fight and with no head gear any little butt or cut and ur done.

I’m excited for two things: The impact that zhilei zhang will have on inspiring Chinese Boxing to grow. Probably even N. Korea and by extension S. Korea Boxing too. And Cubans reentering the pro game. As a Boxing fan, and yes these are my fe~eelings😂, I feel that every Boxing fan should be excited. 1. Fresh blood into the sport 2. An increase in competition 3. An increase in eyes on the sport 4. An increase on money in the sport I wonder how that bias narrative that master craft Boxers “are running” will fare now that Cubans are back. And that bias rhetoric would clash against other Latins when it was mainly used against certain American fighters… interesting. The future of Boxing is looking better in my eyes. Now if the government can step in and force the sanctioning bodies to merge/limit it to 2 sanctioning bodies, Boxing would be saved. A lot of dudes couldn’t run away if they wanted to climb rankings *cough*cruz*cough*runningfromshakur*cough*

It would appear that Ishmael Salas did a good job with Robiesy Ramirez, and he was able to make that transition to pro boxing and now punching with awesome power. David Morrell is a very very powerful puncher as well. I've been waiting for Andy Cruz Gomez to turn pro and very excited to see if he can become a pro boxer which I'm sure he will.

In Cuba they changed how they do things. Now Cubans can actually turn professional and still get to travel back to Cuba. Its a huge change for that country. Before Cubans would have to defect from their country meaning they could never go back if they wanted to fight professionally. This can hurt u mentally in many obvious ways. Not being able to see ur children or ur family. Being stuck in a strange country where the concepts of money and capatlism are not fully understood to a boxer with little education and what little they do have they are taught communism. Its why i think most Cubans dont pan out is they get taken advantage of because they are alone. Now that wont happen anymore. So Cruz could actually be the first financially successfully Cuban boxer. Its gigantic for a country where boxing is the number 1 past time.

I thought their bout in Japan was pretty close I'm no expert and I'm biased cuz I like the kid 🤷🏽‍♂️. but regardless it'll be interesting to see how Cruz fairs on "Key's turf" assuming they're in the same weight. with Key having been a pro longer and gaining a better feel for the bright lights, how they judge and score, smaller gloves, etc. even if they don't fight I been waiting for Cruz to turn pro since him and Davis' 3rd fight in in the amateurs cuz I liked what I saw. it should be interesting 🤔

I hope his team moves him wisely. He is very good at what he does, but if he is put in with an experienced professional who doesn't care how many accurate shots that he throws that are ineffective, Andy will be in trouble. This is the pros. Rugged fighters will use grappling tactics, that will get you DQed in amateurs, to rough him up. So-called dirty fighters like Loma, Shakur, and even Keyshawn will manhandle him.

First of all your channel and your content is amazing. I thank you for the time and effort you put in each and every video. As far as Andy Cruz I feel thaf you're completely wrong and I'll explain why. Having watched Andy Cruz since the beginning of his career in both international and national competitions I believe he will make a great pro and I will have him as the favourite against Tank, Keyshawn and Shakur if they are still around at his weight. Andy Cruz was fighting first at 57 kg and in 2015 he won his first international title by winning the Pan-Am games in Toronto. In the following year he got robbed in the Worlds against Belarusian kid in the quarterfinals and I believed finished with a bronze in the same weight class, 57 kg. At the time he was a much weaker puncher and had a much-more point oriented fighting style. He then moved two divisions up to 64kg where he looked different, his style in a just a few months had chaged and he got the silver in the Cuban nationals against very strong competition. After the loss in the final of the Cuban Nationals he was upbeat and congratulated the winner saying that he still needed to work on his strength and since that moment he has washed every single fighter on the planet including Keyshawn. So very ealy in his career he showed a tremendous ability to adjust by going up in weight by 16 pounds and able to change his fighting style in less than a year, which has shown be that he is an extremely adaptable fighter. Another point I would like to discuss in terms of Andy's style adaptability. In domestic fights in Cuba his style is much more of an aggressive boxer puncher where he is not under pressure to perform the way the Cuban nationals trainers ask him to fight in international competitions. As you may or may not know Loma had 7 pro 5-round fights before turning pro in America in the WSB or World Series Boxing as an amateur. Well, Andy Cruz has had 14 WSB 5-round pro fights as an amateur. His last pro fight was against el Titere Vazquez in Mexico. You probably know of Titere. He has one of the most difficult, unorthodox boxing styles in pro boxing. As of right now, Andy Cruz has more proffessional fights and rounds than Keyshawn Davis. In my opinion he has faced better fighters too. As far as how he throws the right hand. Andy Cruz can throw it as a push punch or turn it over. He adjusts it depending on the fight, the opponent, etc. Even against Keyshawn in 2 of their fights he hurt and stumbled Keyshawn with the push right hand and another time by turning it over. Having said that pushing the back hand doesn't always translate in weaker punch. In most cases yes, however, David Morrell Jr. also depending on the situation does push the back hand and as a matter of fact this is the type of straight left he knocked out Mario Cazares with and broke his neck. As far as the body punching, there is plenty of Andy Cruz fights where he shows some of the best body to head and head to body combinations. If you look at just the Davis fights, they were very evenely matched and all fights took place in the finals if I am not mistaken and that's where fights in the ams become much more strategic. So in this case I think you got it completely right. Smth else, I believe the Keyshawn that faced Cruz was a better fighter than the Keyshawn of today. I was a big fan of his in the ams and he had some great wins against better fighters than the fighters he's faced as a pro so far.

What exactly was wrong about the info in the video? I’m not wrong about pushing the back hand, not turning it over, not loading it off the back leg. That’s all on film. I’m not wrong about what it possibly means or its potential consequences either. Again, it’s on film.

@@BoxingGems you are wrong on the possibilities if you look at the glass half-full. You're also wrong on soecifically looking for footage that supports your theory. Also, the fact that you believe Keyshawn is going to be great while Andy will possibly be not based on Andy washing him 4-0 kind of makes me think or at least the optics make you look like a fanboy in this particular video. I've explained everything in great detail in my first response. Here, Im posting the first short youtube video I stumbled upon and see how his technique on the right hand looks. You explained things that have nothing to do with the video. You’re saying I’m wrong without me giving a conclusion. This all makes you look like you’re emotionally invested or a fanboy. What are you talking about “looking at the glass half-full”? This isn’t about hope, optimism or pessimism. It’s about film. I can’t be wrong about possibilities based on what Cruz does on film repeatedly. What could happen is on the video happening. I can’t be specifically looking for film that supports “my narrative” if I can show him repeatedly doing the same thing in a 3 round fight. You see how you sound? You exposed yourself and tried to project. Shits weak. If you’re a fan of the man just say you’re a fan and stay out these conversations.

Most sports gets ruined when going to the Olympics, boxing gets gutted. The whole holier persona on a sport about dudes punching dudes is annoying, specially because dudes good at punching dudes are not usually at the Olympics, so when fighting skilled boxers they get frustrated. We have had the golden age of Olympic boxers that ended with Holyfield, after that there’s a 80% chance you’ve got pillow hands if you’re touted as a highly skilled Olympic boxer. It’s fine to fight to a decision, so maybe amateurs need a 3 knockdowns per fight rule. You can still score normally but at least you’ve got a viable alternative strategy.

You should also mention the huge fact that he has lost virtually 2-3 years of development in the process of trying to leave Cuba to turn pro. That is serious. Let's consider, for instance, Robeisy Ramírez's poor boxing shape when he finally managed to escape. Regarding the "high-five" amateur habit, Cruz could overcome it. Yordenis Ugás had the same issue and has turned into a more than decent pro. In my opinion Cruz has more raw talent.

Looks like he's going to need to see a spevific type of opponent as a pro while they build up him vs Davis. Pillow-fisted combo punchers will give him experience with less danger. Because a slick counter puncher could wobble and possibly stop him on a sloppy day.

Pacman crossing his feet when he throws the back hand and throwing his swivel jab, lead hand hook or uppercut while feet up in the air. He turned that flaw into his money punch hurting many great fighters with it. Mayweather fighting with his chin up his whole career and making it work is another example of making the wrong right in his particular case. Mike Tyson having a square stance really worked great for him as far as switch hitting and counters. These are big no-no's in boxing yet these fighters have made them work for them. Roy Jones never really being known for a great jab and Im being generous. Muhamed Ali who almost never threw any body shots. Joe Calzaghe retired undefested by brutally slapping his opponents. Andre Ward was two division champ without having much of a right hand, he pushed it a lot of times and I know he had a shoulder injury and all. Usyk is another fighter that pushes his back hand. The fact of the matter is that 99.9% of great fighters have flaws but they make all the parts work great. I see the same with Andy and hopefully he gets a great team behind him

I think it depends on the range. From the outside-midrange Fulton can either time Inoue or catch him in between compilations.
