With the current political climate today, I was actually afraid of reading comments. I'm so pleased to see that so many people support Joan. She truly is a goddess.

The part about having the same build, same hair, always reminds me of my wife and I when we first got together in our late teens. Androgynous was always how we were described- how she looked despite being a girl, how I looked despite being a guy. but In the end, it turned out we were both girls after all, It was just that for the longest time- I didn't know I was allowed to do that.

This song was a pivotal moment in my gender expression and will never forget it. First time I heard the word androgynous and made me feel safe that it was okay to be that way. I remember using the quote ‘he might be a father but he sure ain’t a dad’ in my school essay as my dad didn’t understand me and it was a perfect way to write down my view on him. Will always love Joan Jett and will come back every few years to remind myself where I came from and all the happy memories and struggles I found along the way

aww this video is so sweet.. I didn't understand it at first but then I noticed that the younger girl had a resemblence to Joan, and the younger couple did the same thing with their thumbs as joan and the dude did at the end.. SWEET ^_^

Joan, I first saw you in Madrid new mexico 1981? At the baseball field by the mines. It was a small gathering but, I will never forget. Your beauty, punk rock, everything, gave me a reason to breathe. Ironically, i think we are the same age. I'm having gran Mal seizures with spellchecker hoho long story short JOAN JETT

@@KerryRobertson-lq3zbCrash Test Dummies did cover this song, but they didn't write it. The song was written by Paul Westerberg and is on the 1984 album Let it Be by The Replacements, and stands out as the anthem it became on an album full of punk rock sensibilities. Cheers!

The Replacements are of the greatest rock-n-roll entities of all time...I'm a bit biased being from MPLS and being born in 70...but seriously, true rock-n-roll in the footsteps of Bowie, The New York Dolls, The Stones, influenced Nirvana and that whole late 80s 90s seatle scene big time plus mucho mas...

she's singing the song as an adult looking back on a rough patch of her life (which turned out fine). westerberg was singing it from the perspective of the teen going thru it at the time, thus the pain.

It's like 1987 all over again! Hard to believe that song was written 40 years ago, when boys were still being razed for "looking like girls" after 20 years of simply emulating the same rock gods the girls their age were into, and girls were still being razed for cutting their hair short - over the same 20 years since Vogue models like Edie Sedgwick & Twiggy, et al, & actress Mia Farrow (among others) first made it trendy to scoff at the carefully coiled coifs of their mothers' (those being such a complicated laborious time sucking money drain that they, too, would eventually opt to crop their locks in favor of easily donning readily changeable pre-styled WIGS in the fashions du jour, lol). Anyway, Joan looks awesome. I'm glad she has a new release, & its nice that the former 70s Runaway from L.A. still succeeds despite her mercurial career choice. It's also nice that she paid respect to her punk grandad by giving X's John Doe a cameo (if minus eXene). I also hope this credit helps former Replacements (aka Mats) lead, Paul Westerberg, who wrote the song & put it on their album, Let it Be, in the 80s, where I heard it first at age 15 (& still sing aloud to today). Since, even being a moderately successful rock act thru your 20s is no guarantee of comfort for those that survive into their senior years.

Maybe because she is an American? Not all of us see in strict black-white terms. That you accuse us of doing. This video seems to me to sum up her life. Certainly a woman but definitely not the stereotypical girly girl. Hell I think she is smokin' & keeps gettin better. Plus John Doe is in the video & I get a kick out of the name on the back of the book at the end. If you do not know who he is, Well you are sitting in front of a computer. Try X,or Knitters even.
