Something like this really holds up after time, compared to debates, where everyone is simply looking for who had the best one-liner. It's very respectable that Andrew Yang would go all around the political spectrum to share his viewpoints, while also having sincere and honest conversations.

CLASSIFIEDGTA black people are still facing disadvantages from systems that were developed when white people saw black people as less than human. One of these is the prison system. Watch the 13th on Netflix. They have really solid evidence from administration workers to audio tapes. The drug war was also a huge disadvantage to the black and Mexican communities. They not only labeled gangsters as terrorists, they made a specific law where people would get more time for doing crack than someone who did cocaine. Basically the same drug. Lower income communities saw more crack since it was cheaper and richer communities saw more cocaine since it is expensive. Black man is more likely to get pulled over. This is because the dehumanization towards brown folks throughout the 1900's Eisenhower had a private screening to a racist film depicting a black male being violent, and animalistic. That film basically reawakened the kkk. I forgot the name of the film. When the slaves were freed, they weren't actually free. Most of them broke, couldn't start businesses, couldn't get good jobs. They worked for their owners once again. The owner would charge them large amounts of money basically putting them in extreme debt basically becoming slaves again. This most definitely put afro Americans at a disadvantage that has carried on for centuries. So yes black People should receive 40 acres and a mule not 40 ounce an a pit bull.. bullshit..

People of color didn't experience slavery, Jim crow laws, pole taxes, banking that as a rule (and a law)charges them more interest despite income or credit score. People of color as a term doesn't address a deliberate white supremacist system it's not to say that system hasn't done bad things to immigrants that aren't us citizens and Japanese Americans during world war ii and native Americans. As a black person I can see that it is inflammatory to propose things for black people, but it's not for gays, immigrants and saying people of color diminishes the impact this society continues to have on us and the fact that we don't matter. The midwest matters the most in the election despite having way less people, but a higher per capita white population. Black people are only called Americans in the Olympics. Why not call us African American during that too. Working class never means blacks. American as a term only means European descendants.

I’m a black viewer and this interviewer made me feel uncomfortable FOR Yang. From him cocking his head up to him right from the start of him talking, to pressing him about reparations for black people, to correcting the man for saying people of color. 🤦🏽‍♂️ And what was that he said at the start of the interview? Mhm 👀🙄 I don’t think Yang should even have to feel pressured to believe in this idea of black reparation. He’s absolutely right. No financial means is going to make the situation okay. Not a dollar, not a trillion, not even a number so high the word hasn’t been thought of. The means of white people making anything better is simply promoting policies that help the black community. Attack the wage gap is definitely a significant part of that. By having programs like the freedom dividend you’re able to close that gap for all without causing racial tensions. Black people of today aren’t owed anything for their ancestors being enslaved. We’re simply owed equality that includes financially that has pushed us back from the years throughout history even beyond slavery that have made us worse off in large numbers. Let’s talk about governments making communities that were predominantly black attractive by overhauling neighborhoods for rich people who are predominantly white to have that downtown living in expensive condos. Let’s talk about how schools that are predominantly black are still more underfunded to this day. There is so much wrong that’s going on, but telling a man to get the government to write us a fat check because we’re black is not the way. What really is a single check just provided to black people is going to do? Will a significant amount of black people start businesses and get together to make our communities significantly better. Can that even be sustained in the future for our children’s children? Reality is that black people can manage to do that with consistent UBI coming in year after year. We also need to learn to stick close together like a lot of foreign cultures tend to do. Y’all know the stereotypes people like to use. You see a whole extended family of foreigners grouped together in a house to be able to afford to live comfortably, but you have black families scattered throughout the projects turning to gang and criminal activity to support a family. Meanwhile if every adult got $12,000 and grandma, grandpa, mom, dad all stuck together to really help their children that’d be a collective household of around $48,000/yr on top of the income they receive from working. A whole block could collectively work together to multiply that to make necessary house improvements, create a legitimate housing community with security system. Then this could catch on to several blocks and they could all pitch in to make improvements to the park a recreational center or create one if it doesn’t exist there. I’m sure if this UBI actually makes it through legislation so many black neighborhoods won’t do this. But that is ultimately the necessity for our people that the government can only provide the initial seed. We have to nourish that seed and allow our collection of trees to grow healthy.

I think we deserve our original 40 acres & a mile. Translate that into today's world would be a house and a means to make money. Say legalize marijuana and give black people away to have an easy foot into the door to start our own businesses considering they use it to destroy our communities. Once it's legal, we should use it to build them back up. However, I believe the black people that have been unjustly victimized by our criminal justice system should IMMEDIATELY be released, records expunged and they should get some monetary reparations which can be quantified in their case.

BravoSixZer0 there’s a key difference in the Japanese and Jewish reparations compared to a proposed African American reparation. The people who were affected in those are still alive. They actually experienced the trauma. African Americans today didn’t experience slavery. And there are many benefits in place for minorities that many people seem to discredit, such as schools accepting minorities over whites who have the exact same grades. I’m fighting for equality, but it seems like many people are just fighting for their own culture or race.

There is an element of sound identity politics in them. But there is also elements of TMZ in them as well. @@williamcleland2369 I am certain you cannot relate but for black people we are ONLY seen as our race not having the luxury of going through life as just a human being. We are often treated as less than every. single. other. race. That's just the reality. Not yours but it is ours. so I do believe the interviewer simply wanted to speak on issues that uniquely affect African Americans and I see absolutely nothing wrong with that. The Black vote can in many cases be the deciding vote in the democratic primary. Andrew Yang knows this or he would not have wasted his time with this interview. In addition, this channel is after all The Root and is largely viewed by an African American audience so issues that concern the black community such as reparations will be discussed. Sorry not sorry. So yeah chill maybe? Try and broaden your horizons. Or not. Idc That said I so appreciate that Andrew Yang attempts to meet everyone at their level, bringing compassion, understanding along with the facts and data to back up his proposals. The fact that he has managed to unite Trump supporters, undecided voters along with democrats and progressives alike really speaks to how powerful and needed his message is. Reparations at best is impractical, I think it’s vastly more practical as Andrew Yang proposes to dig anybody who is in poverty out of poverty in the richest country in the world on doing the wrongs of our past isn’t really an option it would destroy this country and divide us even more than we already are. I think what a lot of people get mixed up is that somehow we owe all black Americans a lump sum of cash because their ancestors had it harder than some others and while that may be true in some cases it’s not for everyone and tracking it would be difficult and like Andrew said putting a number on it would be hardest. The problem is that blacks are disproportionately low income, the same can be said for ethnic backgrounds of other kinds but were focusing on blacks here... If poverty is the issue the freedom dividend could be the solution.

However, he has an attitude like the cat can't be put back in a bag. If there's a political will, anything can be done. Heck, for a while it was illegal to own personal goal in this country. FDR put that in the place. We had gas rationing. I'm not saying I agree with these things but these are things that have happened and show what can be done. Came together to win World War II and put a man on the moon. We also gave doe tags Odes to internet company so they could start, Dominic, I'd like you says put both retail out of business because they did not have such breaks. They did not start addressing this until recently but allowed about 20 years of this. There is no way that certain companies should be able to get away with their anti-competitive behavior. That diaper website situation, an easy predatory marketing case could have been made. Additionally there has been a stifling of innovation and that must also be seriously looked at because that's not good either.

It would be really great if Yang won, but this campaign is more about raising his profile/getting people used to these ideas so we can hopefully move forward with them in the near future (God knows the current mainstream Dem candidates are too focused on gladhanding and paying hollow lip service to whatever issue their campaign managers decide will improve their polling results that day). In a field of NPC candidates, Yang is somehow capable of being a problem-solver who can express a sense of urgency without descending into blatant fear-mongering, and we need people (Congress included) to see that his ideas are the future, and that's where *we* are going--regardless of whether he wins or loses.

Desecration The black community, much to their chagrin, is not unique and therein lies the problem with your demands. The majority face 2 oppressions, oppression based on race and oppression based on class. Not all face class oppression because 54% of blacks live middle class or higher and 25% of the remaining 46% live working class in markets with the ability to move up into the middle class and higher which leaves only 21% who live in poverty vs the 11% of whites that do. Those that face both types of oppression are not unique in that every other minority (excluding lighter skinned Asian minorities) faces as much or more oppression. Hispanics and latinos outpace blacks in low education and housing options. Most outpace them in economic well-being. Native Americans tend be the most prejudiced against in any number of statistics and often get left out of racial statistics altogether if that tells you anything. We have a serious problem in America where it appears that if you’re a minority then your chances of reaching the white average are low and that’s a problem we should definitely address. There’s nothing but anecdotal evidence, however, to suggest that blacks face more than any other minority and their demand to get special treatment will only damage their image with the other minority’s which isn’t a situation they want to be in. Minorities should unite together to fight for fair treatment across the board, there’s no reason that your race should determine wether or not you’re more or less likely to be as well off as the average white person.
