After watching all of these I've noticed Bill really doesn't do give-and-take, and he's got this getting old talking over people tendency. Watched him solid for twenty years and these are great convos but if he just listened even a tiny bit more instead of constantly interrupting or waiting to talk over people it would be nice.

The same thing is evident in his general attitude. He seems to be becoming more and more boorish in his opinions, although maybe that's always been the case. Between Real Time and this forum (with the added stoned/drunk element) there's probably some saturation happening. The circumcision thing is a perfect example. I'd be willing to bet Bill would 100% be a champion of the anti-circumcision side of the debate if it weren't for one little factor... HE is circumcised. And so, he has to go all in the other way; uncircumcised penises are revolting, and he's completely dismissive of any merit to the arguments of people protesting the practice. He treats ageism with the same amount of defensiveness on a weekly basis, because HE'S getting older. Not that it doesn't exist but he harps on about it incessantly and displays his abhorrence for youth in its entirety every chance he gets (except for the rare "good millenials" - seemingly defined as those who like him and agree with him on everything). And of course the whole covid thing, where he displays the exact confirmation biases and bad-faith tactics that he would usually deplore in others about any other issue, seemingly because HE personally has a quasi-attachment to some sort of vague alternative medicine approach. Again, not that there's no argument to be had there, but he displays an incredible level of intellectual dishonesty in they way he misdirects and cherry-picks information every time he discusses it with someone. The more I hear from him the more he comes across as yet another person who thinks because he doesn't 100% fall into the tribal "left" or "right" paradigm in his worldview (like just about all of us) he's the real free-thinker, less encumbered by the biases other people are governed by. Really I think he is more myopic than most, and it becomes more evident every time he has a conversation lately.

This was my introduction to Andrew. Listening to these guys share stories about what puberty was like for them was like being there in the conversation. Andrew's youth was very much like my own. I'll be looking for more of him - I have a new celebrity crush. It's too late to expect Bill to learn to wait for his guest to finish a thought before charging in, but I'm much more interested in his guest's input than he is. Bill's Bill. I've been a fan for decades, so I know what to expect from him.

I really enjoyed this--more than I thought I would. Writing from the west of Ireland myself (Galway; my late parents were from Mayo and Clare), both really nailed it re The West. The LANDSCAPE is a huge part of what one might call the "governing psyche" and of course the terrible terrible weather--the wettest part of Europe with rain 260 days a year though it can feel like more. There is a reason why the best trad music comes out of the west--the savage coastline, the folk memory of what the Famine did to us...So much. I'm writing this just as they are talking about 'Banshees...', which I didn't care for for its nihilism. The Irish are a stoic, savage, wildly humourous people--but we need to be. But again: landscape landscape landscape. Weather weather weather. And that heart-breaking history. I just hope they start talking about religious faith--Andrew has written very well on this. It'd be great to have Maher back in the fold and rejecting forever the dismal comforts of atheism.

The conversation about Banshees the film is quite intriguing, I agree that it has no pay off because the writer director has done this before in Three Billboard his previous film, no pay off but a masterclass of a parable that keeps haunting and in the end has a true resonance of humanity

So BILL HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU🐞 Having O'Sullivan pop outta your 🎂 birthday cake was a nice present to yourself. I will say now-- in different words than Mr. Sullivan-- by your saying you had to have logic in order to be self-destructive, it shows that you really aren't all that Irish. YOU'RE a bit more Jewish than Irish in my opinion. NOTHING wrong with that. At least you have all your fingers. lol☺️

I thoroughly enjoy watching Club Random what a genius idea. I honestly have learned so much from the impromptu interviews you have done. I have discovered new faces and have been presented with many interesting facts and ideas. For example, I had no idea that boys had issues with the lack of information available to them regarding puberty, much the same as girls who are often not provided information on puberty. What do you think the solution to this information desert is? Do you think sex education should be presented in school? And if so, should the boys be separated from the girls? And what topics do you think are appropriate and what age should they be presented?
