Misfortune happens to most people to a degree. It's too bad he had to bear misfortune on this level. Everyone who rides falls at some point, but in this way, very seldom. And it wore on his body & psyche as time went on. It came to a natural conclusion, sadly.

He was inspirational to so many. He was the first to admit that this was more manageable for him due to his wealth and the great insurance he had and could afford, BUT was always cognizant of others who had the same devastating injury but didn't have the means he did. I won't forget that humility in him and his courage which inspired so many others.

Amazing all the hundreds of billions of dollars sitting in rich people's bank accounts that could be used to help people in medical need . Christopher said that his insurance company would not pay for a back up respirator costing $3600 , and he paid for one himself , but many people in his position couldn't afford to and were dicing with death.

The rich donate and then get tax breaks from that. They might donate $10 million to a local nursing school for example. When that happens, the tax office aren't going to look much into your affairs, because the government could never provide that kind of funding. As they don't pay tax on that $10 million of income, it's like a $5.5 million donation in reality. Instead of paying the government, they pay recognised charities. If those huge donations didn't buy someone a few years of protection from the government asking for more tax, people would stop making those donations, meaning those organisations would be asking for more money from the governemtn to make up the shortfall. As a result, the tax office backs off. Nobody wants to hinder the chance at getting money for free, even the tax office.
