One of the problems for blowing the whistle is the blower's life is pretty much toast. You are likely to be black balled for any future employment options particularly if you are public about the whistling. Sadly being a whistle blower also comes with great personal cost, and zero prospect of legal help.

The real problem with all of these compensation payments, because of the institutionally corrupt people who are responsible for them, is that they are, inevitably, going to be funded by the already, over taxed tax payer, rather than them being a real penalty on the people who they are truly attributable to. Until that situation is resolved there is unlikely to be any real forward progress.

In *about* 2010 (I was a very regular international visitor to the UK, so I'd need to extensively dig to validate the exact year), I entered the UK on a commercial flight from beyond the UK. I *DID NOT* come through passport control. I *DID NOT* have my bags go through *ANY* customs check or procedure. I did nothing but follow my ticket route, and the methodology was faulty. I was *SURPRISED* at my ease of entry with no checks - so surprised that I actually went into a police station to report it. After quite some time, a senior officer took over from the drones (!!), listened to me and said that he was vaguely aware that it was possible to come the way that I had, and that a person could 'slip through' without processing, BUT that he didn't know how he could fix it. He thanked me for coming in, couldn't promise a remedy could be instigated, and I left, thinking that *next time*, (if it ever happened again), I wouldn't bother making a report! In the UK, as a very bureaucratic country, I am AMAZED that something like this could even be possible. I would BET that if I came to the UK again using the same route methodology - YES, you'd know I was coming into the country, but would you confirm my ID and check my bags? You must remember that I made LOTS of trips, know what to expect, and I was NOT CHECKED on this instance without my knowledge. I exited the destination airport WITHOUT going through customs!! Hint - the system made a wrong assumption! The world is in political chaos; it isn't going to get any better any time soon, and the UK needs to get its act together to address the many attempts at breaching the border!

The nuclear industry still isn't perfect however - in the past when the industry was much larger than it is now, there were several serious coverups revealed by whistle-blowers, including the "loss" of a huge amount of weapon's grade plutonium in the early 70s.

Interesting times, no pun intended. The Times must have concluded that none of their presenters are good enough. Clearly in the view of senior management it is necessary to bring back a previous editor with a level of gravitas, interview and analysis skills to report on the forthcoming elections that does not presently exist within Times Radio.
