Dr Remi Adekoya is a fascinating journalist and political analyst, and lucky for us he enlightened us with a conversation about inequality, and the reasons behind them - race or wealth? We do not wish to change your beliefs but he does present some very interesting perspectives on different subjects, such as the current Hamas - Israel war (and the rise of antisemitism), BLM, Greta Thunberg and others. #Racism #Israel #ClimateChange

To my mind, the big elephant in the room is corruption. I suspect that, when it comes to differentials between countries in terms of power, you'll find it correlates with the degree of corruption. Corrupt governments are the biggest impediment to wealth-generation and social well-being, not race or ethnicity.

How is this helpful, if you're omitting information that might counter your view? ( ^ Regarding this interview and previous videos on the subject of current events and history in Israel and Gaza, some now gone.) It's interesting that you haven't addressed historians, political scientists, and writers, like: Ilan Pappe, Norman Finkelstein, Katie Halper, Anthony Loewenstein, Amira Haas, etc. ( A political view, like Zionism, is not a religious/ ethnic heritage, like being Jewish.)

Thank you. This interview resonated deeply with me and has been a bit healing. I’m a queer, tree-hugging-liberal, American woman of Ashkenazi and Sephardic Jewish ethnicity. Seeing the sick and animalistic brutality of the recent attacks on Israel has been devastating. My shock and hurt have been wildly compounded by experiencing the outcry against Israel by fellow progressive liberals. What has been even more confusing has been my experience that many of these folks are unwilling to engage in a personal dialogue about these matters. I cannot understand someone I’m being willing to raise their voice about these issues very publicly but then refusing to engage an actual conversation because “it’s too sensitive of an issue”, “neither of us will change our minds about anything anyway”, along with the not so subtle undertone that because of my heritage, I am inherently biased and thus incapable of critical thinking or compassion for all human beings. This interview has provided me with a little bit of insight into the thinking behind this experience and allowed me to let go of at least a little bit of the hurt.

Thank you so much for this enlightened conversation… can you please do more reporting on the Israel/Palestine War and the immediate polarization of support that occurred. I am an American Jew living in NYC, and though I am in my late 60’s I am lucky enough to have many young people in my life who truly want to do good. Many of them are former Peace Corps members, and have continued to go to devote their lives to good work. What has surprised me so much is that while I grapple daily with the complexity of what has happened since October 7th (e.g. Israel’s response to the October 7th atrocities, the brutality with which they have treated civilian Palestinians since then) and I am able to at least attempt to balance the right to Israel as a Jewish state, with the equal right for Palestinians to have a state of their own, these young people have jumped so quickly to right vs. wrong. With this attitude, we can never find a way to meaningful peace…because both sides of this conflict are right. Anyway, in order to understand … or at least come to an even marginally reasoned and educated position, it required a lot of me that I read a lot of history, that I listened to thought leaders on both sides of the conflict. It was time consuming, arduous and at times exhausting to fill my head with all of this….so, when people quickly jump to the oppressed/oppressor model (and have no idea about the history for the Jews) I am so disappointed. Nobody wants to hear an old lady’s ranting … but I think young people do listen to you. Please give this more time on your youtube page.

Have you considered Naomi Wimborne-Idrissi? ( "Meet The Wrong Type of Jew, The Media Doesn't Want You To Know Exists" on Double Down News from 2 years ago.) * Being for equal rights for Palestinians, is not pro- terrorism and cheering the Oct. 7th actions by Hamas. Being against the ongoing apartheid by the Israeli government and the political ideology of Zionism, is NOT antisemitism. ( Additionally: Katie Halper in discussion with Marc Steiner, and other people, also made interesting commentary about Christian Zionism, and the belief that fighting over this region will one day lead to a separate prophecy, as a factor in current politics.)

Coverage from the U.S. by Brook Gladstone, host of the National Public Radio show, "On The Media", has included an interview with David Remnick, " Grief and Rage in the Middle East " ( recently ), and the one with Philip Weiss, " New Narrative On Israel-Palestine" ( *from 2014), was also interesting in that a decade ago, injustice was being noted. ( *Of course, this doesn't justify war crimes in Israel from Oct. 7, nor the war crimes that continue to happen since in Gaza.) There is also this in the mix: "Israeli TV Host Goes Mask Off Genocidal " at the Secular Talk channel addressed how some rhetoric is fostering escalation. * I'd like to amend this comment by not closing with that reference, and instead, this from the website, " Common Dreams"( 11/2/23) by John Rabb: "The Rhetoric of War and Genocide Is on Display by US and Israeli Media The othering of the entire population of Gaza-alongside misleading rhetoric and incessantly one-sided coverage-has laid the groundwork for the uncritical demonization of Palestinians, a necessary prerequisite for dramatic violence against them." ( The specific examples in the rest of the article are relevant).

Excellent! Thank you both. So glad I found you. Suggestion, if I may, look into western legal systems. How are judges determined , how long do they serve, what enforcement mechanisms exist for their decisions and sources of laws. You might find it interesting to compare the laws in the Torah against the laws in other versions of Exodus and other books in the Pentateuch/Old Testament. I am not seeing anyone looking at this and it is significant…wealth is ultimately regulated by laws. In Britain as I understand it the monarch appoint someone to appoint the judges and then the appointments are approved by a panel, the monarch appoints the real power of King Charles needs to be taught to the world, because generally in my experience royalty is seen as window dressing when in fact, they still have massive real power.

Even for centrists who like to think before concluding, it gets confusing - there are very easy moral judgements but there are many more moral judgements that fall in that gray area. Hamas leaders speak terrible things and we tend to define the entirety of the Palestinian people by what we hear. On the other hand, we see some Israeli numbnuts on social media mocking the Palestinian suffering and we tend to define the entirety of the Israeli people by what we see. And we're still stuck on square one - see no solution and remain ambivalent depending on what we see or hear on any particular day. Hamas has to go and that is clear. But, Israel is not truly a secular state - that brings up the question on whether this ongoin conflict is indeed a religious one for Israel as well. Seems like the Likud party with it's shady history and radical religious factions also needs to evolve or be replaced before any peace can be reached. Religious wars are some of the most savage and will never be resolved.

Well Hamas is the elected government in “Palestine”. Every “Palestinian” leader has been an antisemite. There have been left wing Israeli governments trying desperately to grant statehood to “Palestine” for decades. The Arabs have responded with suicide bombs and terror campaigns. There already was a two state solution, the Arab state is Jordan. This whole “Palestinian” identity was invented in the 60’s, the documents spelling it out by those inventing it are a google search away.

You have qualms about a tiny Jewish state that has given much to the world but how about the enormous Islamic nations with Muslims slaughtering one another surrounding it? To be fair, most democracies are overwhelmingly Christian even if they don’t claim to be. I’d much rather live under Christian or Jewish leadership any day. Not all values systems are morally equivalent. The moral confusion with young progressive people today will be the end of western values and the alternative is living under barbaric Islamic ones. 🙃 Gd bless the many innocents who are stuck. 🙏

This discussion omits mention of Ilan Pappe and Norman Finkelstein...Why? " Collective wealth" was emphasized, but not *generational wealth and economic resources/ or not, after displacement...why not? Since Dr. Adekoya focuses on wealth, wouldn't the impact of surrounding circumstances also matter? (Amira Haas was interviewed at "Democracy Now!", and mentioned her father, a holocaust survivor, who made a thoughtful comparison, as well.) How is the documented/ recorded language of Netanyahu, and members of his administration, left completely out? ( This is in refering to Palestinians as " amalek" and "human animals", etc.) Wouldn't that dehumanization matter on this subject, in regards to stereotypes affecting perception?

*Regarding Norman Finkelstein: I had not known about his initial response to Oct. 7, till I watched the interview he did with Piers Morgan to take accountability and clarify, as well as amend that. His connection to taking it down to being historical dishonesty and erasure was interesting. Finkelstein is a scholar who has done many interviews, among them was one last year with Katie Halper, " Should Israel Exist?", in which he was reflecting upon Putin's actions at the time as a colonizing agent. Another interesting interview was from August, 23 with TRT World, ( Turkish Radio and Television), "Norman Finkelstein’s lifelong rebellion and new war on woke | The InnerView" ( This interview addressed wealth and political influence, which might also connect with what Dr. Adekoya was saying about this, even if each person may have different views about the subject.

Also Spain and Portugal have both historically been Catholic. The war between Palestine and Israel, although people try deny it, is a religious war. Muslims wanting to erase Jews

There is absolutely no sense in that analogy. Portugal has been a recognized self determined state since 1143 and Spain is not (nor has it ever been) colonizer of Portugal. Hence, if Portugal, a sovereign state, would attack Spain, another sovereign state, the latter would obviously have the right to defend itself from the attacks. Quite different is the Israel-Palestine situation. According to International Law, it is the colonized people (such as Palestinians) that has the right to defend itself from its oppressor/ colonizer (such as Israel). On the other hand, Israel, as colonizing entity of Palestine has actually the responsibility to care for its colonized well-being!

Correct, what apartheid was does not exist in Israel, what the Israelis do is at least a 100 times worse. Apartheid does not exist outside South Africa, it was excusively a South African thing. Was it the right thing to do? With hind sight, no definately not the way it was implemented after HF Verwoerds assassination. So.... To everybody who says Israel has a so-called apartheid state, I say get educated..... Israel has a very violent segregated open prison/consentration camp, the rest is also ruled with extreme oppression and violence. What has Israel done but kill Palistinians destroy their houses, farms, crops and steal their land. Has the apartheid government ever bombed black people witheld food electricity andmedicine or targetted and killed journalists?....No...never. During South African "Apartheid" ; 1) The biggest hospital in Africa was built exclusively for black people only, where they could get operated on for two Rand (todays equivalent of 10p British.) I suspect that was an admin fee.(Baragwanath) 2) Many, many thousands of houses were built for them. 3) Many sports facilities ie pools, football fields and stadiums were built for them. 4) Medical Clinics were built for them. 5) Public Transport like trains and busses were established for them. 6) Schools and various trade learning centres were established. 7) Infrastructure was established where they legally stayed. 8) Black people had the freedom to travel (during troubled times they were limited) 9) Nearly every houshold and farm had black employees, so at least they could eat and pay for exteas required. (Btw on farms ...housing, some clothes and basic food was also supplied) the ANC got rid of that by increasing the minimum wage to such an extent that farmers couldn't afford so many workers anymore, resulting in mass unemployment and the same with domestic workers. 10)There was law and order. Thesedays under the ANC government there is chaos and the difference between a policeman and a criminal is getting harder to distinguish. *All of the above was destroyed or deminished by the black ANC government* Did Israel do any of the above to improve the lives of palistinians....no, they did nothing. The aim of apartheid was to educate and improve the lives of black people so they would have a better life than before 1961 (When HF Verwoerd coined the system as apartheid for the first time) They were offered vast areas (many thousands of sq kilometres of land which was their original homelands) and many $millions but they refused it as its easier to want everything the white man had developed. They did not want independence like Lesotho, Eswatini, Botswana. The British instilled very draconian segregation laws in the early 1900's when SA was still a colony of Britain and it was left to the later government to sort out the mess they inherited. The present ANC ruling party has destroyed the country, doing everything Mandela warned them not to do and as HF Verwoerd predicted. So those referring to Israel as an so-called apartheid state..... *Youre clueless. It's not an apartheid state. The only way you can even make that case is if you're referring to the treatment of Palestinians in the West Bank. The West Bank is not - and nor should it be - part of Israel. By all means, accuse Israel of war crimes - particularly in its failure to address settlers in the West Bank. But you know as well as I do that calling it an apartheid state implies that the country of Israel treats its own civilians differently due to ethnicity or nationhood. This is a country where Arab Israelis are politicians, celebrities and sports players. This is not a defence of everything Israel does. But the term apartheid is used to create a false narrative that paints the only gay-friendly, liberal democracy in the region as racist. Historians can argue all day about who started what. The reality is that right now, Israel is at war with a terrorist-run state whose covenant calls for the extermination of all Jews (go read it). Given I'm one of them, I'm sure I am biased, and I regularly admit as much. Forgive me that. I acknowledge Israel has done a lot wrong. But I'm not going to twist language to make it fit with some Leftist/Far-Right wet dream of Jewish oppressors.

@@AndrewGold1 So you have more experience and knowledge than Desmond Tutu when it comes to Apartheid ?He certainly denounced Israel as such a regime. if you won't listen to the U.N how about Tutu? Most Israeli certainly see themselves as separate from the Palestinians and their government obviously do. and that's the basis of the double-standard. Dancing around technicalities doesn't change the fact that so many Palestinians have been denied their homes by illegal gun-toting settlers, that Israel controls Palestine's water supply and electricity, that Israeli settler violence and the IDF kill and/or dispossess hundreds of Gazans every year and that was happening long before the Hamas attack. The last time Palestine tried to peacefully protest , the IDF opened fire on them. Are you really telling me that Palestinians enjoy the same freedoms (including freedom from persecution?) as Israelis? It's not a "false narrative" just because you want it to be. The reality is actually that Israel is a nuclear power, one of the most heavily militarised cultures in the world, one of the best armed and one with the backing of the U.S. The population of Gaza is 50% women and children, because your kin slaughtered most of the men way before this recent attack happened. The two sides are in no way equally matched and for all you go on about "slaughter of every Israeli Jew", your spokespeople from Israel have repeatedly referred to Palestinians as "all nazis" , not "civilians", "animals", "human animals" and have stated that we "need to kill them all" several times......And let's face it, Israel is by far the better equipped of the 2 sides to follow up on this threat. Everything you accuse the Palestinians of, Israel has done ten times over and mostly announced it to the world themselves. These people you have on your show allow you to indulge in a fantasy which makes this all "ok. " But i think Andrew, that deep down, you know that this is wrong and that's why you "doth protest too much". It seems that the dangerous propaganda that you are spreading is also there to quell that still small voice in you that knows, truly knows that this atrocity is barbaric, atavistic, cruel, untrue and on the wrong side of history. You can get people like this guy or Remi to speak , but just because a paradigm is coherent doesn't mean that it is real. Narnia is a pretty damn coherent realm in it's lore but that doesn't mean it's not fiction. Have you ever been in a debating society.? with enough knowledge and a little bending of facts, you can argue any point. you know that. Try it yourself. give yourself 24 hrs to come up with a justification and normalisation for , erm, i don't know..Female circumcision. a horrific practice, but anyone given enough time , knowledge and will can come up with a coherent argument for any horror. It;s just semantics: Map not territory. Similarly you can argue that black is white , up is down and whatever else you want. You can even sound convincing. It doesn't make it true Andrew. It's just wishful thinking. You had it right when you were young. you need to find that boy again. You are preaching hate and genocide but still pretending you can do that and still behave like an educated man. You are too close to this and your lack of objectivity will eventually lead you back to the existential identity crisis that brought you to this point in the first place. You will always love Israel, but you must open your heart to Palestine too. The two things are not as mutually exclusive as Bibi wants you to think. A 2 state solution can happen. an accord for peace can be reached. We did it here with Northern Ireland. wouldnt that be better for all concerned? After all, We face ww3 and no-one wants that.
