You really got the feeling from Andrew's portrayal that his Peter Parker had relived that fall in his head over and over again thinking about how if he'd done this or that differently he could have saved Gwen. His dive is perfect form, he pushes objects out of the way to increase his speed, and he *catches MJ* so that *he* can absorb the shock of the sudden stop and cradle her so she isn't hurt by it. The soundtrack was perfect, too: it goes into this utter silence except for a ringing sound -- exactly what Peter would have been hearing as he went into adrenaline overload from the sheer terror of seeing history about to repeat itself, as the increase in pulse and blood pressure affects his hearing temporarily. Zendaya's "Are *you* okay?" was a brilliant ad-lib, too. She said that she thought that MJ, seeing the look of mixed joy and sadness on Andrew-Spidey's face, would have been moved to ask if he was alright, considering he looked overwhelmed. And he is, now. Or at least, he can see a path to where he will be.

Andrew saved Zendaya by hitting the ground first, and Tobey saved Norman by getting between Norman and his glider and allowing himself to be pierced in the back this time. one thing i always think about is how andrews Spider-Man probably thought of all of the ways he could have saved and caught Gwen after she passed. it was so heart warming to be able to see him save mj and i like to imagine that because of it, he became more content with himself because even though he couldn’t save his “mj” he was able to save someone else’s.
That guys a good actor. Hacksaw ridge was good. So many people in the theater had an awww moment when he welled up in no way home.

Ngl, i teared up a lil bit too. You watch Gwen and Peter have an amazing relationship for 2 movies, then he loses her at the end of TASM2. It’s not gonna bring her back, but it shows he learned what to do from it, that he *is* capable of saving people.
Garfield is such a good actor and he took this role seriously and this was a beautiful moment. I wish Marvel understood better that amid all the chaos and noise it’s moments like this that make us care about the characters and you need these for the big bombastic stuff to matter.

It’s sad that Andrew’s movies did end so abruptly as he said.
Growing up, I always wondered why Spiderman didn't just sling his webs to save falling victims, instead of struggling with trying to reach them in time. Andrew's Spiderman answered that question in the most heartbreaking way possible. Momentum is a thing, they will get severe whiplash
@sethalanburgess

Her head hits the floor. It wasn't whiplash.
@shadhowe_865

@@sethalanburgess It was more than likely the whiplash. The velocity at which she was falling was enough to cause her to break either her back or her neck from the sudden abrupt stop she came to from the web that was attached to her. Not to mention that at that velocity there would've been blood everywhere, or at the very least blood from her head if she had hit the floor, but there wasn't any.
@hawktriad
Жыл бұрын
If I remember the comic story, it was the whiplash that killed her as he tried to stop her fall. It was Gwen though not MJ. The previous issue of the comics had the death of Detective Stacy if I remember correctly and then Spidey killed the Green Goblin next issue?
@collegebro85
Жыл бұрын
@@shadhowe_865 you can clearly see her head hit the ground at full momentum, and even I knew something wasn’t right when I first saw it and the way her head jolted back as it did. If it were whiplash, her head would have jolted toward her chest (like in a car crash), but the blood pooling out from the source of the injury confirmed she basically fell to her death and only the rest of her body was saved…
@shadhowe_865
Жыл бұрын
@@collegebro85 I don’t really remember there being any blood coming from her head at all during that scene. Either way the reason people don’t come to a general consensus about it is cuz of the scene pretty much mostly being entirely CGI, so the physics of it would obviously seem a bit weird at the end of it. Not to mention, Marc Webb as far as I know never addressed that part of the scene either to confirm anything.

Literally one of the greatest moments in cinema for me, because I was such a fan of Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man
i think its safe to say we all had tears in our eyes and a hand in both peter and andrew's shoulders. he had some closure and self redemption. spider man saved mj and forgave himself, and andrew got his second chance to be spider man again and save mj... he had the most destructive and wholesome moments for me. so happy that so many feel the same.

It felt cruel, what happened to him and Gwen
The fact that he started tearing up when he saved her really shows so much. He knows exactly how it feels to lose the person you love the most, and he didn't want Tom's Peter Parker to feel that exact same pain of losing MJ like he did with losing Gwen
I remembered when I saw the scene of MJ falling in the trailers and I thought to myself, "Oh, imagine if it's Andrew who saves her." And I was so happy to see that that's exactly what happened.

I agree! He’s the most comic-accurate Spider-Man AND Peter Parker. His version in TASM is more so based on the ultimate comics, but the original 616 comics also had Peter start out as a self-isolated loner, with anger issues, who grew from being selfish into the responsible friendly neighborhood Spider-Man we see at the end of the movie. I feel like most people don’t understand is that TASM Peter finally becomes Spider-Man after he saves the kid on the bridge, not when he dons the suit for the first time. It’s a realistic arc that takes a lot of inspiration from the comics (which are the source material), and takes the entire movie to complete.

@@MildlyPerturbed exactly! The moment Peter became Spider-Man was after captain Stacey helped him to realize how hotheaded he was being. He truly thought he was doing something right, but it was all selfish. Even losing his uncle didn’t make him Spider-Man. You get it bro!

@@jbstudios3000 Thank you! I'm just glad there are some people that appreciate the movies, which can be hard since so many people dunk on them for not being like the Raimi movies. I really love the films, and I acknowledge they have flaws, but for me personally many of the good things in the duology outweigh the bad. The movies have a compelling Peter who is similar to the comics, a great love interest with great chemistry who actually feels like a person, and I just love the score, vfx, and cgi, as well. The TASM movies still have the best-swinging scenes from any live-action Spider-Man movie so far. I wish more people would just leave TASM fans alone and let them enjoy the movies without nitpicking the movies all the time or calling their preference wrong. Most people who don't even like the movie just do it either because it's popular to hate on them, they don't understand the movie, or they haven't read the comics (which are the source material, not the Raimi movies. I don't think many people understand this). They still unfairly judge the movies. Sorry for the rant, but I'm glad you like the movie too. Spectacular Spider-Man also rules!

What’s interesting is that in the first comic where Gwen died, it was the web that snapped her back, meaning that he caught her, but it still killed her. Basically there was nothing he could do. That’s what they were trying to replicate I think.

That was actually my favourite scene in Spider-Man No Way Home, and that’s a great detail btw..and the look on Andrew’s face when he saved Tom’s MJ…
I cried like a baby when he caught her. Andrew made that movie for me. Tom and Tobey were amazing as well, but Andrews redemption was the chefs kiss for me.
Just watching him save her made me tear up. You could feel the emotions emanating from Garfields' character.
that moment was one of the best Marvel moments ever
Who ever gave this chance to Andrew thank you. There was a hope that a sequel gonna happen but this gives that small relief.
That moment in the theater when I was a kid in HS was life changing. I remember the crowd standing cheering. I was crying. When the movie was over I went outside and it was night and raining that perfect soft, tight rainfall. The parking lot lined by street lamps illuminating the rain. I’ll never forget that night
Andrew was by far the best of the spidermen at showing emotion without saying a word. He gets forgotten about a bit between Tobey and Tom but he was just as good
So much wordless storytelling in that moment. You know he relived that moment in the tower over and over again thinking of everything he could’ve done differently. Then when he does get the chance to do it again there’s no hesitation, no concern for anything or anyone other than MJ, throwing himself into the ground unafraid of what might happen to him. And then you see it, all the years of doubt and self resentment finally resolved in this moment of growth that is so perfectly Spider-Man.
This scene is what convinced me that Amazing Spider-Man 3 needs to happen. It's superb.
No other actor was ever capable of making me cry with just a single look.
How can you deliver such a wide range of emotions without even saying A single fucking word hats off to that man Goosebumps every time
When that scene played in theaters, i shouted "you didn't fail this time!"
I cried like four times during this movie, and this was one of those times.
Andrew nailed this so well. This made his Spider-Man performance the best of the three (in the scenes with all three). He did a really fantastic job in the film.
This scene made me shed a tear, and thank you for not throwing a joke out right after it.
I just remember watching this in a full theatre, and when that happened there was a collective "Aww" around the room
