First of all a genuine thank you for your feedback but I must say I’m baffled. how can you post this as a new Trinnov owner yet in another post slam a multi channel system driven and processed by Trinnov and built to their guidelines. Try telling Trinnov you don’t need a centre channel (which carry up to 80% of fundamental soundtrack information and is a critical discrete channel in its own right? As mentioned, I’m baffled..

Any way you can do a vision on daisy chaining multiple subs in a room to o e channel o. The processor?? Or doubling up side and rear surround speakers?? 21 speakers connected to a 16 channel Trinnov???

I noticed you said 4 subwoofers only using one output. Does that mean the single output is connected to something like a MiniDSP? If so, why? Can the altitutude not perform its own DSP for the subwoofers?

Its been a while since I recorded this but the only reason for doing this was on the Alt 16 there were not enough channels. Had it been an Alt 32/24 or 32/32 there would have been more than enough. Yes the Altitude does a stellar job of managing subwoofers and gives you massive control over each one as well. More than you would get with a mini dsp. But if budget has limits then using one channel with a minidsp gives you options

Hey Andrew, Any recommendations for dedicated home theatre seating?

Hi sorry about the delay. There is quite a selection of home cinema seating. We do like the Row One product but they have these awful blue control lights that really bother us. There is a new range coming and we have been yelling at them to fix this so we will see! But in the mean time there are alternatives so drop us a line and we will see what we can do to help.

So, you assigned only one of the channels for LFE and connected it to a minidsp which is controlling 4 subs, essentially providing you 15 discrete channels out of the 16 available. Are there any disadvantages (excluding the loss of 3 discrete channels) when using only 1 of the channels for LFE with a minidsp as opposed to using 4 channels dedicated to LFE and letting the software configure the subs? which minidsp unit are you using with the unit if you don't mind me asking. thanks

  • @HomeTheatreEngineering

Wow good comment/question. Yes thats correct. We used a MINIDSP 2x4 Balanced. The only real disadvantage is that you dont get Trinnovs room correction on each sub discretely and also you need to be very careful to integrate and set sub levels prior to running Trinnovs room correction but if you get that right it can really sing and dance. Then Trinnov applies its correction globally to the 4 subs. That or you need to pony up for a 24 ch unit !

@@HomeTheatreEngineering thank you for the response as well as for making this video. I just bought the 16, I have until Wednesday to change my mind and buy the 32. I honestly don't see myself ever needing more than 16 channels total but figured if I ever needed more surrounds I can sacrifice dedicated sub channels by using a minidsp. I do like the idea of linking subs to different speakers, although I don't know how useful this will be. I'm assuming this can also be done with 2 minidsp's, 1 for a pair of subs linked to the front room speakers, the other for a pair of subs linked to the surrounds. this would leave me with 14 discrete channels (which Ironically seems to be an odd number in the world of home theater). Now that I think about it, this would probably make leveling the subs as pairs in the minidsp's a bit easier, and then have the software integrate the now two virtual subs to the rest of the room. Just a thought, not sure if I'm missing anything though, which I'm sure I am 😀

It really depends on what you actually need done. You can probably expect a capable calibrator to charge around $500 (Aus) per calibration but you may need several plus for example we also do Audio calibrations etc. I am not sure of US rates.

Hi, I’m sorry I don’t quite understand your question. Normally they are more in parallel than in series? If I can guess at your question. On Trinnov you can add as many subs as you like and assign them an output channel. Once you have done that you have full and independent control of each. Does that help?

@@HomeTheatreEngineering Yes sir, you did answer the question... I was mainly asking due statement in the video regarding doubling up speakers for the room... I think it was about 24 or 26 speakers in the room... So, Am I to understand that if you have the Altitude 16 instead of the 32 or 48ext, that you can double up the speakers of the Altitude 16 and assign speakers 17-24 to other positions, correct?

  • @HomeTheatreEngineering

@@michaelslocumbsr.2286 ah ok. Its not ideal as you are splitting the output of one channel to 2 amps. There is some loss of signal etc. But if you have to it can be done but I would suggest only in a pinch. So we have 2 rows of left and right surround and as we are using all channels on a Trinnov which is currently installed we needed a way to do this and this was our choice.

20+ speakers is overkill and is actually providing an inferior experience. Unless your room is truly massive (1000 sq.ft+) you end up creating all kinds of phase and frequency interference with so many speakers in a “box” of a room. Next time you design a theatre try this: use the same budget for 10-11 speakers, you will have a lot less interference and you will get double the performance by spending 2X more per speaker! 11 channels would be: L/C/R [C is not even necessary for most rooms] + SL/SR + SBL/SBR + VOG(2x) + 2 subs. You could even trim that to 1 sub (that is twice the cost of 2 subs, per unit), no C, and 1 VOG. Now you have even better sound quality. Remember that a proper 2-CH Stereo system will give you a huge 3D soundstage, from 2 speakers.

Not sure where you are getting your facts from but you are almost entirely wrong. Even the fact that you state a centre channel is not necessary in most rooms shows your level of understanding. There is also a very fundamental reason for using 4 subs. I would highly recommend you do an HAA course and also read a few industry white papers. Trinnovs speakers placement white paper is a good start. Also I would suggest reading Floyd Tooles works. Arguably one of the most learned and capable researchers in our industry. Finally one day come and visit our rooms and have a listen. Last but not least are you aware of the price performance and capability of Procella speakers? What speakers would you suggest we spend an extra $2k on? And no a proper 2 channel cannot deliver immersive ambience and surround sound and if it could that would be a heartbreak to all the sound guys slaving over object oriented multi channel soundtracks. We have been working with reference quality multi channel for a long time we measure and verify everything and work with amazing products like Trinnov. I’m sorry but none of your arguments hold water and your claims are unfounded. Not sure where you are located but you have an open invitation to experience our demonstration rooms ( one of which features amazing Wisdom audio speakers at nearly $12k each so yes we did spend much more than that extra $2k).
