Andrea Ghez reacts to winning the Nobel prize in physics
Andrea Ghez, UCLA’s Lauren B. Leichtman and Arthur E. Levine Professor of Astrophysics, received the Nobel Prize in physics on Oct. 6, 2020. She discusses her research on the supermassive black hole at the center of our galaxy and her reaction to winning the prestigious honor.

Radical feminists will be offended😂
I love how passionate she is when she talks about her work.
These are the people should be really respected
So far, two (may be more) got noble prizes who got partaken in parts of making Interstellar movie. Andrea Ghez (Noble in Physics in 2020), Kip Thorne (Noble in Physics in 2017). In General, film directors introduce 'cast & film making crew' to movie audience, but very few directors like Nolan introduces 'cast , film making crew and scientists' to movie audience. Kudos !!
I saw your interviews when first image of a black hole was published. Your simplified explanation of the presence of a supermassive black hole at the centre of milky way galaxy was quite new and fascinating for me. Frankly i didn't know you by name, so when the news came out this morning it was just a new information for me. But when i saw the images of the persons attached, i felt so good. Your work deserved to be recognised. You are an inspiration to me and similarly will inspire millions other girls to take up science. Many many Congratulations for the win. 🎉🎉
Been a fan of hers ever since I saw the documentary on Sagittarius A* and was blown away by her 12-15 years worth of observations of the stars at the center of our galaxy. She’s very cool and humble, and it’s very striking to see the stars whirring past the invisible mass, it’s almost eerie.

I congratulate her for winning Nobel Prize in Physics.
I watched her long ago in milkyway galaxy documentary explaining about blackholes. Then fascinated by her knowledge and excellent explanation. I recognized her face immediately in news channels when Nobel prize for physics were announced. Professor Andrea! I am so happy as Astronomy is my interesting subject. The award speaks how talanted and genius you are. Hopefully your students too inspire and motivate from your achievements and carry on your valuable research in galaxies forward.

I watched the documentary too many years ago when I was 13. I think that motivated me to study black holes and to keep the curiosity and interest on natural science.
This is so awesome! Im crying right now. I remember watching an episode of The Universe about her detecting that black hole, years ago.
The fact that scientists today are still so passionate just melts my heart ♥ Go science!!

I remember this lady blowing my mind with her black hole research in that documentary 'Inside the Milky Way' but that was ages ago! I can't believe how long it takes to get the apex of your research. Congratulations!

Congratulations, Professor Ghez, I saw your studies of the motion of stars around the Milky Way black hole in documentaries in the early 2000s. How wonderful to be recognized for this work.

So, she made this discovery a long time ago but only being rewarded for it this year?
@williamavery2415
3 жыл бұрын
@@tsuyoi-hikari it is the nature of the Nobel Prize that it is not rewarded instantaneously by rather after the full effect of her research along with the others working in this field were awarded (who actually had to wait much longer than she did). This is absolutely not a fast process.

@@williamavery2415 Oh thank you for the explanation. ^^' I thought each discovery was awarded within 1 or 2 years after their theory / contribution was proved scientifically.
I really wanted her to get nobel for her work....and finally the moment is here......Congrats !!!!!👍🏻👍🏻

Absolutely monumental. Her and her team’s work on producing the videos of stars around the super massive black hole at the center of our galaxy is mesmerizing. Congrats, Dr. Ghez
Well deserved ...! Congratulations Professor Ghez! and congratulations UCLA.
Almost 4 months back I watched a Netflix documentary “supermassive black hole” which is not currently available. Astounded by her work. Indeed a Nobel laureate. 💖
Congrats professor it was long overdue
awesome on the work and the prize, congrats!! wish this trending in popular media more.

Congratulations on winning the Nobel prize! :)
Congratulations mam, your years of hardwork finally paid off. Also, Thanks for inspiring me to become an Astrophysicist.

Congrats Mam💓
Thank you so much for doing the work. You have enriched the human race.
Ur words became my new mantra of lyf, 'develop a passion to prove everyone wrong', which mam said in one of the interview.
Object at galactic centre is not necessarily a supermassive blackhole. Macro exotic matter (1up,1down & 1strange) is a possibility with strong gravitational force on galactic plane an explanation for anomalous "hesitation" observed in orbit of SO-2 by Prof Ghez & her team at UCLA
UCLA Andrea Ghez WELL DONE ...

Sorry I didn't mean to be offensive. Sure, mentor is a term that can used for "undergraduate mentor" , "project mentor", etc etc. You mentioned going far in your studies and I assumed research studies. People usually talk about person X being their PhD advisor which is why I made a wild guess.
