I can relate to this song 100% Listening to her, I cant help crying. I sing this song myself, when i do, I must admit i also do those hand gestures, and at the end, I do the same, it helps me reach the high notes much easier. But maybe thats just me?!

You were once my one companion You were all that mattered You were once a friend and father Then my world was shattered Wishing you were somehow here again Wishing you were somehow near Sometimes it seemed if I just dreamed Somehow you would be here Wishing I could hear your voice again Knowing that I never would Dreaming of you won't help me to do All that you dreamed I could Passing bells and sculpted angels Cold and monumental Seem for you the wrong companions You were warm and gentle Too many years fighting back tears Why can't the past just die? Wishing you were somehow here again Knowing we must say, "Goodbye" Try to forgive, teach me to live Give me the strength to try No more memories, no more silent tears No more gazing across the wasted years Help me say, "Goodbye" Help me say, "Goodbye"

The hands thing may apply to a different performance, but the hand gesturing here adds to the excellent performance and sound, especially considering the words of the song. I guess some people like an emotionless, undramatic performance. This is indeed near flawless!

I must admit that I think her rendition is one of the best concert versions I've heard. Obviously it doesn't have the dramatic tension that you get during the actual musical, but to actually perform the song as a stand-alone, this is a gorgeous rendition. That last note is stunning.

The great singers use gestures; Brightman, Evancho, Louwerse, Turunen...they all do it. They can't stand like a cigar store Indian they have to move. And you can see their hearts in their eyes, especially Mirusia. IMO she is the #1 Classical singer in the genre today. Not opera. Classical and Classical Crossover. Andre really found an unpolished gem and turned her into a show stopper.

@ClassicalRelated Waving your hands while singing is something that comes natural... I do it too, lol :D I think it makes the music flow more (if she would move her hands in very fast, short movements, her voice would sound much 'harder') She could sing without it, but I like it... it makes it seem like she's feeling the music more :)

I've never heard it sung in this key before! I've heard orchestras play it, but never someone sing it! She did a beautiful job, and I agree with you EuropeanGodess and ClassicalRelated...I don't think the hand gestures fit the song at all. It's a sad song! I don't know anyone in mourning who would use such intricate hand gestures while singing, or even talking, about their loss. Some hand gestures certainly, but not something so grandiose. Didn't keep me from getting chills tho. ;) Beautiful!

It's not necessarily as sad song. The way it is performed here is as one cherising the memories of someone she wishes were here. To me it shows tact how they were able to convert the words to that feeling/dramatization of cherising memories. Making this sad would not have been anything special... and moreover in my opinion would have made the song and performance boring

Omg. She has a very big mouth, hahaha. No offence, it's extraordinary, I didn't mean it was ugly or anything. I don't find the gestures with the hands annoying, but most of the times you just see her face and a rising hand, that looks weird. It would probably have looked better if we'd seen more of her instead of so many close-ups.
