    It's a beautiful little country, that's all a duty free store, including restaurants and groceries and gasoline, with seasonal sales, to liquidate merchandise. That's when it gets packed with people. Besides that snow skiing towns and tourism seeking to do outdoor sports. .

    Great video. I'm planning a trip there in May. Coming from Spain, is there a border patrol to exit Spain into Andorra? I want to get an exit stamp so the days I am in Andorra are not counting towards my 90day Schengen visa

    @@TheAbundantTraveler I just found out it's 90 days a year

  • @allanlees299

    As Andorra is not in the Schengen Area, you are (theoretically....) if you reside in Andorra you are theoretically limited to 90 days in the Schengen Area per every 180 days. But in reality, the border guards very rarely check passports if you are driving through in your own car. In fact, the French border is unstaffed from Friday afternoon to Monday mid-morning, so no one has any idea if you're in Andorra or not. Thus in practice, you don't really need to worry about the Schengen restrictions if you are resident in Andorra. Speaking of which, it used to be relatively cheap to obtain residency but as of 2023 everything has become much more expensive. The other thing to remember about Andorra is that you will feel very cut off from the world once you start living there, as opposed to a brief tourist visit. It is essentially impossible to get anything sent to you without lots of hassle. Amazon etc. is not permitted to operate, and only the local Andorran courier service exists - no FedEx etc. In theory RapidAND can get stuff for you but I never once found anything they could actually deliver for me, and their business process is totally backward. Most people in Andorra have friends in Spain or in France to whom things are sent; then a few times a year, the Andorran person will drive off to see the friend and collect all the items that have been piling up for them. Andorra is lovely - not spectacular like Switzerland, but snow-globe cute - and it is extremely peaceful and safe, but the bureaucracy is Dickensian and although Internet connectivity is fabulous, one can easily feel cut off from the rest of the world.

    I was there in September, and the weather was wonderful. If you like skiing, go in winter, and if you’re looking to get out of the summer heat, you can go up into the mountains in July and August.

  • @allanlees299
    @allanlees299 Жыл бұрын

    Perhaps in tourist resorts/hotels most Andorrans speak English, but otherwise it's not true. You can definitely operate in Spanish, and quite a few Andorrans speak at least a little French (especially near the border with France) but if you think you can wander around Andorra la Vella speaking English in order to interact with people, you may be in for a disappointment. Petrol is not in fact "subsidized by the government" but is cheaper than in France or Spain because Andorra applies a 4.5% rate of VAT whereas France & Spain apply a 22% rate of VAT. Thus many things (food, clothing, perfumes, etc.) are cheaper in Andorra than in their neighboring countries.
