Saurabh Dwivedi, Akshita Nandgopal, Sonal Pateria were joined by Prof Mahalaxmi from JNU, who teaches Ancient History and about the culture of South India.
They tasted different Andhra Meals and discussed the history and crops of Southern states.

    The best show ❤️ Being a North Indian yaar south ka khana south ki dishes is mind-blowing I would say agar kisi ne south ki dishes try nahi Kiya to life mai one of the best khana miss kr rahe ho. (I don't mean idli dosa south dishes are far diverse that this)

    My Janam Bhoomi is North and Karam Bhoomi is South , I can say confidently , Andhra Food is most tasty food in India , It just incredible and full of flavors ! People should explore South culture and food more and enjoy ,appreciate and respect, I am sure it will open your thought process . ❤

    सौरभ जी, खाने के और आपकी बातों शौक़ के कारण episode देखा. निरंतरता की कमी लगी. प्रोफ़ेसर महालक्ष्मी खाने के विवरण को साझा करने और आप खाने के स्वाद में डूबने में इतना गहरे उतर हए थे कि अक्षिता और सोनल समझ नहीं पायीं कि बातचीत को कैसे बाँधें! या फिर समय आदि आ गया कि शानदार विवरण और स्वाद दोनों से नाइंसाफ़ी हो गई. आगे सम्भालियेगा . 😊

    Prof. Mahalaxmi JNU PhD ka mera interview Li thi wha par inhone mujhe interview me Hindi language use karne ke liye Puri tarah se mana kar diya tha. Jabki mai Hinglish me interview Dene ki koshish kar rha tha. Us time mujhe laga tha ki ye South Indian hai isliye inhe thodi bhi Hindi samjh me nhi aa rhi hogi. But yha ye kafi achha Hindi bol rhi hai. Agar ye mujhe thoda bhi allow karti Hindi me bolne ko to mai apna PhD proposal achhe se represent kar pata. Inhone mujhe interview me 5 marks di thi.

    Technically unhone sahi Kiya kyonki agar aap Hindi mein doge toh kya pata kalko koi aur completely odia mein de de jo interviewer ki first language hai hi nahi..... Tabhi English ka use mandatory hai and Hindi is not a compulsory language and is actually a regional language. It is official along with English in government offices which does not include university teaching as it can only be used in administrative work.... Agar unko English zyada comfortable as a non native Hindi speaker, it's completely her choice and she is correct... Kalko aap mere yahan aao aur mai aapko haryanvi mein interview du even if you understand it a bit, u will not be 100 percent comfortable

    @@anandkumarsahil first of all haryanvi is a recognised regional language (sometimes dialects are so different than the language that they become other languages)... And second thing if u gave the interview in mixed, what was ur problem giving in full English

    Thank you for such informative content great episode, I have been brought up in Vizag but from prayagraj by birth, my love for Andhra was pouring out in the my mouth in the form of water. It reminded me how we used to learn from our Andhra neighbors new food recipes and create it in our kitchen gongura pachidi, karam (a special chilli powder of Andhra ) and fish pulsu ( tamarind based fish gravy ) yummy episode 😋

    Interesting programme! An important point that was missed while talking of invasions/ trade relations is that it is believed, the method of steaming , ferrmented idlis were originally brought in from Southeast Asia where there were Hindu kingdoms and India had trade relations with the region

    Rice cultivation came to India from Southeast Asia. Also, making dishes from fermented rice - like idly and dosa. Rice cultivation is water intensive. But, South India did not have irrigation facilities in the past. Most people ate millets like jowar and ragi. Eating rice was a luxury most common people couldn’t afford. That was true till a hundred years ago. There were two ways in which rice came to India. One was through migration of austroasiatic peoples like the Munda and Khasi. Second was through interaction between the Chola empire and the Malay/Indonesian archipelago. The second is particularly true for idly and dosa.

    Discussion is healthy and very informative but my kind suggestion is don't waste precious food. Visibly shaken to see lot of food spread on your table but it's sufficient for atleast 10 people.

    @@AjitJoshi686 yes it is true, Since Satvahan's time Brahmans were given 'Brahmadeya' which meant land grants where cultivation used to take place. But as Brahmans were more involved in king's rituals and religious practices, agriculture was mostly done by lower class who were hired on a contract basis with adequate division of produce every season.

    काली मिर्च केवल बहुत भारी वर्षा वाले क्षेत्रों में ही उगती है। इस पौधा जिसके फूल वर्षा के पानी से परागित होते हैं। स्वाभाविक रूप से, यह केवल भारत के दक्षिण-पश्चिमी तट पर ही सर्वव्यापी है। शेष भारत में काली मिर्च बहुत महंगी थी। जब पुर्तगाली भारत में मिर्च लाए, तो हर कोई इसे अपने पिछवाड़े में उगा सकता था। मैं भी भारत में मिर्च के आने से पहले की रेसिपी खोजने की कोशिश कर रहा हूँ। मुझे केवल दो ही मिले हैं - पोंगल और काली मिर्च रसम। जिसका ब्रिटिश नाम मल्लिगटॉनी है। मलिगु का मतलब काली मिर्च और तण्णि का मतलब पानी है।

    Gud or jaggery is mainly used as a sweetner, ma'am please mention, kalkandu,{ dhaaga mishri }and brown sugar(naattu sarkari) used traditionally. One more thing is adirasam, how in temple prasadams strictly no sugar is used.. no white sugar is used..its not considered apt for prasadams. Another sweet is the tirupati laddu which is known for its unique taste and panchamritham made with banana, honey, brown sugar kalkandu and elaichi.. famous prasadams of murugan temples. In past for whole south they using Madras similarly they think that tamilnadu food represents completely South Indian food.
