Congratulations on your pattern! You were at the top of the most viewed in ravalry for a few days! Pretty impressive… I am not really smart on Andean knitting but I do like the thumb flicking. I have used it a few times on other projects to save my wrist from endless purling. For the car thing, the state my sister lives in has an annual safety inspection but it’s $20 and done at the service station. I am in SC and we have an annual property tax on vehicles. The process to pay it is laughably pretty similar to your road tax payments. I think it means the DMV is the DMV no matter your country.

Hi Deanna, for 2 months you have allowed me to think that I have invented what owing to you now I know is an Andean colorwork technique when I figured out a way of how to embed a pop-up motif on a sock and then used it in a hat as well. So thank you....Btw, I enjoy your podcasts a lot.

I know exactly how you feel! When I was working on my tapestry (updates on that finished object next episode) I thought I invented a new way of catching color floats that turned out to be jaquard ladder back technique.

@@haxtonknits Yeah, exactly. How clever of you!!! :).That' back ladder technique is a smart one. I use it a lot, just did not know the name of it. So now I know. Thank you again. Actually, I used it in combination with the Andean loop to anchor that contrast colour yarn before and after the (aforementioned) motif so as to avoid the need to twine it with the MC yarn. But now I think that it may be the case that the Andean 6-year olds do that one as well :))..it was nice to chat with you..

you have some amazing knitting projects. Did you chart the trees knit? What's it like in Japan? Was it easy to move there and get work? Do you speak Japanese, or are can you get by with just English? I took a paper making class years ago and learned that some villages in Japan and devoted just to making paper. It would be cool to see. Are you just in Okinawa, or have your travelled throughout the country? Happy knitting!

The chart for the trees was made using stitchfiddle. It's a free online program and you can upload pictures and turn them into charts. I live in Okinawa and have only traveled through other areas in Japan like Hiroshima, Kyoto, Osaka, Tokyo, Sapporo, Sasebo... Okinawa is distinctly different from the mainland and that makes sense because the culture here, originally the Ryukyu kingdom was influenced heavily by trade routes from Korea, China, and Japan.... and other countries. I would say for traveling purposes you can get away with only English speaking in most urban areas of Japan. In Okinawa you can get away without any Japanese, but I have taken some classes and can hold short conversations. The US has had a large population on Okinawa since the end of WW2 and the US Government briefly was the official government of the Ryukyu islands (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Military_Government_of_the_Ryukyu_Islands) You won't have problems ordering food at the drive thru or calling most businesses on the island as an English speaker.

Discovered your channel and just fell in love with it 😍 gotta be a nerd one to know one 😆 regarding the over the neck knitting (I don’t know the correct name), maybe blame the portuguese because that’s how we knit, although I knit a-kind-of-continental style! Now for today’s program is watch all your videos up to this one 😃

Welcome aboard! It completely makes sense that Portugal and the Andean knitters share similar knitting styles! I would love to see a video that traces the spread of knitting around the world and what aspects traveled from what regions.

Wait, don’t you have mandatory car inspection in the US? I’m quite sad to be all caught up with the episodes now, I found the channel via Knitty and have been binge watching! I’m pretty sure it was never mentioned why you chose to move to Okinawa specifically (twice)? And have you used the knitting belt after recovering from the surgery?

In the US it varies a lot from state to state. I remember as a kid in Florida my parents having to get to emission testing but that stopped in Florida some time before I was old enough to drive. I'm sure there are still states that require an inspection but I haven't lived in one that did. The knitting belt has been sitting on my desk waiting for me to pick it up again. I was really hoping to find a good resource or class on using knitting belts... there will be more to come on it's use. As far as why we live in Oki, we are a military family and move often, in fact in 18 months we will be moving to a new country!
