Khaled Hosseini books were ones that led me to read non-fiction books about Afghanistan. I look forward to reading And the Mountains Echoed too.

I loved Abdulla and Pari's storyline and did like this book but the multiple storylines bothered me a bit because it was a bit complicated. I love the way you talk about books, it's so fascinating. :D

The sound of this one is very intriguing. I like the idea of putting a puzzle together. I know I will love the writing as I think he really is a brilliant writer. It is amazing to think that he was a doctor first, before he became a writer. I am really glad he is now able to be a full time creative.

"Putting together a puzzle" is basically the magic phrase that will make me pick up any book, so I'm definitely going to look around for this one. It sounds awesome. And I've never read anything set un Afganistan either, so it will be interesting. Thanks for the rec!

I recently picked up a copy of The Kite Runner(got it at a church rummage sale, actually) and will probably save it for my fall reading as I have a huge amount of summer time books to go through. Glad to hear such great things about his work and love the puzzle analogy! I do crosswords in a similar way:)

I was very moved by “A Thousand Splendid Suns.” The characterizations that Hosseini creates of especially Maryam, Leila, Aziza, and what he thought they represented . How he situates them in the construct of “Afghanistan” and their characters’ symbolism of the country’s history, present, and potential future. And the threading of the interplay/ interaction between them-especially between Maryam and Leila, against the backdrop of their surroundings both on individual and collective levels. The historical references are generally amply-explained or contextualized. Unfortunately Goodreads put a word economy limit on my enthusiasm; so I had to publish my (5000ish-word) essay on my personal blog [I may have gotten into it a bit too much, admittedly 😂].

This book is still sitting in my shelf, because I was a little hesitant because a lot of ppl said that it's not like kite runner or a thousand splendid suns, but after hearing your review, I believe I should give a try. Good non spoiler review!

I really liked the other books of him so I started reading this one too. But i feel this was quite a messy one. It jumped so much from story to story and I felt that some character's story didn't make sense as a whole in the book. It just ended and i didn't understand the significance of that story in the whole book. Like that doctor's life in Greece. The main story was about Abdullah and Pari but it drifted a lot. And many times even in the middle of the chapter, it jumped years, characters. I liked the main storyline but somehow not the whole book.

i read his other two books this year and am eager to get to this one. I thought The Kite Runner was phenomenal, and it's really stuck with me. Suns didn't impress me as much. but the structure of this one sounds like something that's right up my alley. i've heard some say this was their favorite of his and others that they didn't like it at all, so i'm intrigued to get to it. the way you describe it as a puzzle makes me even more excited for it! great review!

Yeah .But that was kind of the point of the novel . Remember how Nabi says that a good story is like a train . No matter which compartment you enter sooner or later you will reach the end . And that is true with this one , I read the middle section in a completely messed up order and it all made just about perfect sense to me ....
