Putting High School Musical as the "standard" for musicals really isn't a good idea considering how different all musicals are. I recommend trying out more, from Epic and other musicals to see how most aren't "traditional" in the way you think they are

There are a lot of (very well made) fanmade animatics you can check out along with the music itself, the extra context is nice and they're for the most part "lore accurate", adapting a lot of what Jorge has said is going on during the songs in a lot of the videos he makes.

High school musical is a sad bar to have 🥺 I feel so sorrowful for you. Its like a really sad salad, which even salad lovers sometimes grimace at. There are those few salad lovers who like it. But its not real food (sorry not sorry to all those that take offense) but there are a lot of musicals that is like a really nice dinner. One but afterwards, you don’t feel Like you have an upset, stomach or empty, but feel very satisfied and full. But you could go for more because it’s just that good. 😂 Epic is such a musical but its like a several course meal (as its not finished and more keeps being published). Its a whole meal and then some. Broski I know you do not know me and I do not know you, but I am proud of you and proud of Epic.

I'm a musical theatre lover who actually went to the school the HSM series was filmed at while they were being filmed, and I can tell you right now that I CANNOT STAND those films.

I highly recommend watching the animatics this lovely community has made for the songs, it really helps give visualisation to some of the lyrics. The community is stunning and very creative.

You Like Monster, but this songs are the bases that lead to that!! Specially what happpens in "Just A Man" Narritvly speaking! Hope you enjoy this Journey with EPIC: The Musical!

Dude welcome to the EPIC journey, love the video and reaction. There are a lot of also animatics that give an accurate visual to go along with the music. I will link one below. Watch out for spoilers in the comments but if you have any questions I'm sure the EPIC Winnions will get you the answers you need. Quick thing to note, listen to the instruments as each character has an instrument associated with them. One final note, also listen to the background vocals. Anytime a mortal is singing with background vocals, those background voices are people that are actually present in the story. If you want something that's got a tradtional musical sound but also something new, specifically rap, I highly recommend looking into Hamilton. It's such a different sounding musical that pulls from rap and hip hop in parts while also having gorgeous musical songs.

I agree with everyone else that you should watch the fan animatics. It adds SO much more. As for the music itself, he gets his inspiration through anime and video game music. I’m sure you get pick out the boss battle similarities. I would HIGHLY suggest following him on KZread and/or TikTok because he does a lot of behind the scenes information. Little Easter eggs everywhere. Also, Ruthlessness will blow Monster out of the water. No pun intended.

Hi! If you really want to have a full “EPIC” experience, you NEED to se the animatics by the fans. And if you like this modern take on Broadway music you realllllyyyy need to hear “Hamilton” by Lin Manuel Miranda, it will blow your mind!

My guy, High School Musical is nowhere near the standard of musical theater, lmao, that thing is literally just a teen movie with pop songs, if that's the only "musical" you ever listened to, I'm afraid to say you don't know musicals at all. A LOT of them have songs as good as "Monster" and many even better than it, that is the standard.

A lot of more modern musicals have a different sound than traditional ones and I definitely would recommend not using High School Musical as the standard lol. It’s just very Disney. Six and Hamilton are the 2 big ones that come to my mind that have either a rap or pop sound

For me everything from Keep your friends close and up to There are other ways - historic, earthshattering. The whole thing is incredible but that whole section I listen to on repeat.

Okay so the musical singer < pop singer/ star statement hard disagree. I mean that respectfully bc it’s hard when hsm is your base point for musical theatre. I recommend The Color Purple specifically the Tony awards clip on here where Cynthia Erivo sings I’m Here at the end. I promise you your opinion on the matter will change. (I’m not saying that there arnt pop stars that can sing emotionally I swear, musical theatre trained people are just on a different level (other ex: Renee Rapp))

Monster is up there for me too but wait for the next one "Just a Man" is the one that sticks throughout the journey and my personal fave in the Ocean Saga, "Ruthlessness" they give so much context and depth that makes "Monster" what it is.

If you want visuals to the songs and the story our community has freaking talented animators with animations to all these songs. I can really recommend it (altough just the music alone is really amazing and epic.)

Another one joins the great EPIC the musical vibes. I do also recomend whatching the fan made animatics, doesnt matter which ones they are all great, they are not entirely cannon but they are prety close. And you cant let the ears be the only ones who get a treat.

Not all musicals are like high school musical. I would recommend Ride The Cyclone

Glad to hear that you're going through the whole thing. :) While I believe you said you're releasing these songs with a bit of delay(with this video being recorded during the weekend?), I have to suggest swapping over to animatics as fast as possible. They are fan-made, but Jorge has been willing and open to give behind-the-scenes info to the different animators where necessary, so they are like... 90-95% canon, dependant on the creator, and fill in a lot of information that might be missed in a first listen. I myself completely missed the idea behind "Warrior of the Mind" (the fifth song of the Troy saga) until I saw an animatic that made everything clear to me, and I imagine that it could do a lot for you too.

Have you heard anything from the musical 'Hamilton' yet? Because after that you won't question what musicals can and can't do anymore. Also a recommendation in case you are looking for something to replace the 'Epic'-reactions in the future

I had to hop over to watch your first touch with Epic when you said this was your second song from it. I love Epic and love people discovering it! I do recommend watching with fan animatics as they help with the lyrics. There's so much to digest in just one listen. I'm not sure if you caught it but Zeus the god told Odysseus to end and infant's life in this one.

Listening to all of Epic only makes Monster even better; It doesn’t seem possible, but it’s true!

If you do continue this journey, like many in the comments I recommend you go along with the animations some people have done. All of them are gorgeous and should be appreciated but there are some that just feel alive. I recommend Gigi, I love her Puppeteer animation, it’s feels so alive and Circe’s depiction is great. Ruthlessness by Anniflamma and many of mircsy’s works. Though if you don’t want to go with animations I suggest you hear carefully to the songs. Even without someone’s interpretation you can create your own image as the songs have background noises that depict the events, like some characters falling, the waves of the sea. This musical is insane and we are still halfway through it.

If you like this, you’ll LOVE Hamilton, it a musical from a few years back, and a majority of its songs are legitimate rap songs.

You should definitely listen to the song first to take in the music but then watch the animatic after each song to take in the story. It gives the full story to you

Don't go into Troy Saga with Underworld Saga in mind, it's way different, because Odysseus is way different. In Troy Saga, he had a crew of 600 men. In Underworld Saga, 558 men had died under his command. (Well, one drunkenly fell off a palace roof, so it wasn't Odysseus's fault, but the others were.) Underworld Saga Odysseus suffered an entire Act One's worth of trauma.

I suggest that you watch the anamatics with the songs so you would be able to see the story going on and have a better understanding of it

since you love monster, the song after the horse and the infant just a man is one you'll love. Moster is like a reprise of just a man

I love seeing people get into mediums of music they don't usually listen to. Musicals are so varied, I'm so sorry High School Musical was such a bad first impression on the genre for you. I assure you most musicals aren't like that lol I've seen a lot of people recommend Hamilton, so I won't beat a dead horse on that one, but Into the Heights is an earlier play done by the same person who made Hamilton that I think has some real bangers in it. I'd also like to recommend Hadestown, which is another Greek Mythology based musical with a twist

Everyone has already mentioned to watch the animatics. I would recommend restarting and just have your next episode be the first two songs and then go back to one at a time. You gotta savor it because only half the songs have been officially released. If you enjoy the rapping than you might enjoy Hamilton, really anything Lin-Manuel Miranda has made might be interesting for you.

@@HIM_066xMusicReactions I have one D&D series I'm years behind on, and I decided that Critical Role is just not a realistic thing for me to watch with my brain damage making my ability to process things harder, and I started watching it super late, so spoilers are unavoidable. Then I discovered Epic. My sleep habits were bad enough before. 🤣

Underworld Saga was the last of Act One, so unfortunately, we're probably going to have to wait a while. It'll give me time to recover from the trauma of Underworld Saga. 😂

High school musical is barely a real musical please please do not use that as a standard for what musicals are like check out Heathers or something to get a benchmark if ur ever curious about the genre

Before Hamilton, I had no musicals I liked, because Broadway style music just doesn't sound good to me. Now it's Hamilton and Epic. Both Lin-Manuel Miranda and Jorge Rivera-Herrans are each others' only equals in terms of lyrical and musical genius.
