Just a quick self-correction at 5:15: Guanyin is not the generic term for any holy patron in Chinese culture. She is a specific deity, a Boddhisatva prominent in the Journey to the West story. What I meant to say there is that Guanyin was probably the most popular of Holy Patrons among the Sworn Brotherhoods of the time.

@@jehuirasales3588 OK, Ultraman is wrong about the part of the 4 canon gospels deleting James because he's there in Both Mark 6 and Matthew 13 together with the other three brothers Joses, Judas, and Simon. Paul the Apostle mentions James as leader of the Church in Jerusalem several times and complains about James sending out letters to all the newly-founded churches telling them to reject the teachings of those who do not bear the letter of James. One Epistle of James (not actually written by James) can be found in the canon. The non-canonical Protoevangelium Jacobii (Proto-gospel of James) is still suggested reading for Catholics. This book is actually where Christians got the idea that Joseph was already an old guy when Jesus was born, as well as the only written basis for the Catholic doctrine of the Immaculate Conception. Christians don't usually know much about James because they don't really read the Bible. If they did they'd know he's there. James isn't that important to Christianity today because all the surviving Christian sects are descendants of Paul's gentile church instead of James' Jewish church. Early Christians actually didn't dispute that Jesus had brothers and happily wrote acts, epistles, and gospels of them. The somewhat famous Gospel of Thomas was written based on the idea that Didymus Judas Thomas had special authority because he was the twin brother of Jesus (both Didymus and Thomas mean twin, and Judas is the name of one of Jesus' brothers). There was also the Infancy Gospel of Thomas which was supposedly the same Judas Thomas chronicling his childhood with his superpowered twin. There was the Acts of Thomas where Judas was compelled by his divine brother to go spread Christianity to India, and so on and so forth. The current church doesn't like talking about these brothers today because their existence kinda makes the current theology questionable.

In Sichuan province, where half the adult men were triad members or associates, KMT took the local gang memebers to form army divisions against the commies when they were losing. In the aftermath, 200 thousands were captured and sent in prisons located in the wildness of tibetan part of Sichuan. Only half of them survived according to some reports.

Hong Xiuquan was said to be a very smart guy, but at 22, after failing the imperial service exam four times (it was a 1:100 competition), he had a nervous breakdown (I feel you man) and started having visions where he had a heavenly family. His heavenly father lamented people worshed demons instead of him and sent Hong with a fiery sword to fight the demons, along with his heavenly elder brother. Shortly after, a cousin gave him some Christian pamphlets and he used them to make sense of his dreams. The heavenly king, Shangdi, was god and Jesus, his son, who was sent by god to earth with the power to fight demons, must be that heavenly brother. Oh, remember the sword in the dream? That is the most awesome part: He and his cousin ordered the forging of two badass swords that he called "the demon-slayer swords" 斬妖劍 And who were the demons, if not those who denied his dream of being a public servant? The Qing hated him so much for his revolt that his body was exhumed to be beheaded and later exhumed again, to be sure he was dead, and cremated. Maybe they were afraid he would resurrect like his heavenly brother.

Maybe this ties in with this video's series about the Mongolians. If this is so, then I am not surprised, why in actual fact, the laws in the US and UK, is kind of discriminatory as well.. for Blacks, and for Chinese people. Well.. technically, not chinese people, but actually, it is Mongolian people.... I would say, good for them ! Cos if you have hurt someone, until you can gain someone's trust... then they should not let down their guards. No wonder, even the British were only allowed to go in certain areas in the mainland as well, during those colonial days. They could not travel so freely. Same with the Chinese in the West. This is why most foreign countries have a "china town"... Of course, as rule changes.... in China, similar changes will happen in the US or the West.

And the reason why Americans don’t get Chinese history right is because they are boorish and narrow minded - Americans are terrible at history because they have no neighbors which pose a threat to them. Compare this to Europeans who have to learn about their neighbors and world history.

I like to think Pai Mei was their leader IRL 🤣 The so called "burning" of the Shaolin Temple has long been disputed by historians, the exploits of some of the escapees were captured in the Shaw Brothers titles Heroes Two (1974) and Executioners From Shaolin (1977) amongst countless other films. The hand gestures you referenced can be witnessed in many films, John Woo's Hand Of Death (1976) immediately springs to mind. Regardless of the historical inaccuracy of the aforementioned movies they are all highly entertaining and well worth a watch.

The British monarchy only ever award titles or labels, if the individual has helped the country in some ways.... This is why he ended up holding a position in the Dutch Consulate as well. Of course, the Dutch came and made trade with China first, and the British were kind of a little bit out there, without much cooperation or help. Whereas the Dutch had a lot of help, which became and turned things around to become what it is today... There was a famous video somewhere about a Chinese person who studied abroad, and ended up bridging the gaps.... Do not assume that this was all the results of the previous dynastic individuals inside the palaces... The Dutch came way way way before the British did.

I don't know any Mandarin, so I'm purely stating that it sounds to me a lot like what I would expect from someone who speaks it. And regarding Chinese or Mandarin, yes but Mandarin still falls into Chinese umbrella of languages so it's not that wrong.

But they stopped being "nationalists" when they actually had a nation though. Nothing chad or "nationalist" about that.
