Celts seem to have always been really good with music. I remember that one of the earliest recorded examples I know of Celtic music comes from Herodotus, the Greek historian. He went to ancient Spain out of curiosity and was greeted by soldiers marching to the sound of drums and a flute. Like a modern marching band. He found them "rich" and "advanced". For some reason people tend to picture them as Germanic barbarians, but Celts had really classy armor and metal works. They weren't barbaric.

germanics werent barbaric either. a barbarian was a roman slang for all non-romans. ofcourse there probably were more or less warrior based tribes, but germanics in general were agricultural, cultural, smart/advanced people. the metalworks of that time period still is more advanced than modern metalurgy, we cannot perfectly recreate their trumpets because celts had faaaar more advanced bronze casting tecniques. besiced, the romans were more barbaric than anyone really, due to their political actions and how they expanded and such, and most roman technology (in all aspects) was coppied, armors/shields and long pila were coppied from galls, literature/architecture/art in general was coppied from greeks. romans knew how to copy and make it better.

@@psalmas9011 Lol get real. Germanics and Celts literally lived in thatched-roof huts while Rome was building incredible feats of engineering that are still standing today. That's not to say that Germanics and Celts were inferior as people, but they CERTAINLY weren't even close to the level of civilizational advancement of the romans. Put it this way, Britain entered the bronze age 1000 years after Rome. One thousand years. Think about that for a second

interesting.. these instruments are very rare today.. in the west african sahel there are ancient long bronze/iron trumpets/horns still used by the hausa, fula and kanuri people called "kakaki" for ceremonial music, not to mention the ancient horns in the himalayas... these groups also primarily use the pentatonic scale, and have defining ensembles of flutes and fiddles.. by that similarity, it seems the roots of irish music are very old indeed.
