Just a tip for using Vallejo Metal Color paints - you want to wick away the excess moisture when you're using them in a brush. They're diluted for airbrush use, so they're quite hard to control and much less opaque otherwise - just touch your brush to a paper towel for a second or so before you paint and you'll find they're anything but. Vince Venturella has several videos on how to get the best out of them:)

Having made a few Titans in Adeptus Titanicus scale, I would recommend some focus on cables and the back door. They really help to bring in the scale, and while being relatively small in terms of effort they give a lot of bang for the buck. The skeleton is looking amazing btw :)

Imagine being able to say “My dog met Duncan Rhodes.” Absolute legend.
Every time I see someone paint models it always blows me away. My first thought was “brown undercoat, this guy has lost it, it’s going to look like crap.” But boy was I wrong it looks so good.
I heard "It's Titan Time" as just "It's Time Time" and found it funnier than i should have.

Oh the note of the heatwave in the UK-I hear a lot of my fellow Americans have a laugh at people in the UK being worried about high 90 and 100 degree weather (which it has been here in Missouri for nearly two months). But I’ve also spent a summer without AC, and being acclimated to heat counts for a whole lot. It sucks. Hope you guys are finding ways to stay cool!

Also, we in the US have air conditioning. Here in Texas, it was basically impossible to get on without AC, even BEFORE climate change set in. Everybody thinks rising global temperatures are no big deal, up until the AC goes out.

Exactly my thoughts about the riveted ridges, especially arount the feet!
you primed in muggy weather that is probably why that paint came out textured and shiny. Muggy moist weather can stop flash off entraps the moisture within the paint causing the shine.
@wellywanderer
Жыл бұрын
You're into it. Spray priming in that heat is going to cause some texture - either with the trapped moisture or the aerosol spray particles drying before they hit the model.
Damn, that metal texture on the chassis is looking absolutely beautiful - it almost looks like it was an old cast metal model to begin with! and that sneak peak of the armour panel looks super cool! Still tho, I really hope that you revisit some of the physical weathering on the other armour panels - it'd be cool to see what various types of marks different weapons have left on it over the years!
Nice to finally see some paint on the big lad! If it were me doing this project, I'd build this thing up right quick , prime it and then - you guessed it- leave it unpainted FOREVER while I browse eBay for bagain 40K job lots

Hello guy im a fan from the Philippines and i just wanna say your a big inspiration on why i got into the hobby im in the process of purchasing a necron warrior box and a start collecting space marines im planning on a fallout style color scheme for my marines 🙂🙂
2:55 - you want to spray outside and then leave your models outside for 10-30 minutes to let them degas. Some paints may take longer. Then you shouldn't have too much of an issue with odours in your office.
@rasmusolesen5307
Жыл бұрын
I agree that spray painting outside is the ideal approach, but there are so many reasons why that might not be a possibility for some people. Most neighbors don't like spray dust for example.
@idontwanttopickone
Жыл бұрын
@@rasmusolesen5307yeah, I appreciate that. But I think it's probably easier for people to spray outside than inside - just do it outside at night on some derelict land in the middle of nowhere. But seriously, if you can't spray outside, at least do it in a room you can air out and leave your models in there with the windows open and a fan going for an hour or so. You definitely want to wear a mask if you are spraying models inside, especially if it's something as large as a titan. Trust me your lungs are way more important than any model.
Tip from a mechanic that knows hydraulics, a small nick in a cylinder rod will lead to a leak, causing dust to gather in the run of oil that works it's way out in the nick. To make this part of the weathering, you can put a small ding in a rod and leave the rod shiny, but make a run of oil at the lower end of the rod with lots of dark mud/dust.
Vallejo Model Air Aluminium is basically my favourite paint. I use it for highlights, not only on miniatures, but also for the final drybrush on LARP weapons to give blades and crossguards a bit of zing.
Always excited for the titan videos. Makes me wanna get some ones myself
I would love to see maybe some skitariis on the understructure, I believe i've read that on titans this size, defenders are needed to push off unwanted guests that would try to climb, it was in a book from the black library. Needs to be confirmed but that little handrails sections would be perfect for that ! Continue what you're doing it's cool ! ^^
That's some nice, messy metal. I'm looking forward to learning the secrets of the painting on those plasma-coils and armour plates.
That Newsanchor crack had me dying. It's essentially me every day of summer, here where I live just hit 109 F today and it's still not the hottest month. 🙃
I know it's an old video, but I just wanted to say thank you, because I used this method to do the frame of my Warhound, and in a single night, I had the best looking metal I've ever painted. I'm going to be redoing all my knights like this too!
Wow, and there’s my 2 seconds of fame. Great to meet you, thanks for helping me into my painting hobby but best of all, thanks for being one of the winning votes for my Skaven Warband entry at Griffcon 2022 paint comp.
When this project is finished, I beg you to use this monstrosity in a regular game
Model Air Alu is my absolute go-to "bright metal" - even when brushing vs using the airbrush. LOVE that paint!
If you're planning on weathering that monster with dust tones, I can highly recommend the ultimate modelling products weathering washes, they're a clay based pigment in a water soluble medium, so once you put them on, you can re-activate them with a damp paint brush to make nice streaking effects, they airbrush reasonably well too, so that can speed up the application and go best over a gloss/satin surface, a Matt surface will grip better making them difficult to re-activate and remove, and the clay pigment is heavy so you'll have to shake the bottle up a bit every now and then
It's all starting to come together. Hope you are well.
It looks amazing. I hope the finished product will be something that one can look at for hours and still find new details constantly and how you describe your plans, it is going to! This must be my favorite model building/painting series.
To see you stipple on the metal texture on the skeleton is so satisfying to watch. Very please with where this project goes!
I love how it looks like a big hulking hunk of metal. Such lovely attention to detail for honestly such a quick paintjob thanks for making my day a little better guy!
Watching the dry brush metal cover up the brown undercoat was really satisfying to watch.
This is amazing and fantastic series. So excited to see how it turns out. The metal painting is on another level. Looking forward to the next video. Keep up the good work.
Great video!! Glad to hear you used the warm brown tone we spoke about at GriffCon22 ❤🤟🏻- Zak

"Guy, have you seen my hairbands?" "Noooooooo!"
Nice! I got Vallejo gunmetal when I was at Griffcon as well, I'd not used it at yet, good to see it in action. Great to see you again :)
You can add some skitarii ranger or magos on the titan "level floor", around the entry door

Love droochie eye violet
wow. for the amount of time you put in, the result is incredible. can't wait to see how it looks after any/all detail work you decide to do. i learn so much about painting from your vids - i don't do minis, but most of the techniques are applicable to what i do (i like to weather/panel highlight my transformers toys to make them look like they've been in battle for decades). keep kicking ass.
Guy is so wholesome. This is the ultimate comfort channel. Put on a midwinter minis video and watch all of the worlds problems disappear for a moment.
Re: detailing materials Parachord comes in a variety if diameters and colors. Makes great for hydraulic lines and jacketed wiring. There's also a faux lead string & wire used in tying fly fishing lures, it lays exactly where you place it and makes for great pipes and wires. Learned both these from scale model builders.
I grew up on the east coast but moved out to CO recently. The last 3 weeks it's hit about 30-34 in the house just about every day. Just broke a few days ago, thankfully

ISN'T IT?! How does he do it?1
Respect for keeping the pace during that heat, I completly lost motivation for painting, because its too warm. On the other hand, it's yout job...
Seeing as you mentioned your Blackstone Fortress videos, I just wanted to say that those vids got me back into the hobby after a break of around 20 years. The last thing I had painted as a kid was 2nd edition Space Hulk but only the Terminators and about 3 genestealers. Since getting back into it I've managed to paint the Blackstone Fortress set (the last few minis being far better the first few), some Necrons in the classic silver and green and have just started with the kill team starter set (terrain only so far). Thanks again for reminding me how much I enjoy painting these models and for your speed painting tips which have been a massive boost for my painting confidence 👍
This is amazing work.

I thank you for your dedication for making the video. The heat on Monday was just plain murder and I must say congratulations for carrying on.
Beautiful
absolutely stunning titan man, i love the grim dark look of old metal
I love gryphon games SO MUCH
Hi Guy! Awesome content yet again, thanks! Quick tip if you're going to work with stencils (most people make the mistake), is to start with an initial layer of the original paint. This will seal in the edges and prevent any paint from leaking under the stencils! (also works great for when you're painting rooms and need to tape off an edge for different colours). Cheers and looking forward to the next content!
God that makeup brush with the silver was amazing. Will have to try it on a smaller scale on my titanicus models.

Can recommend that technique! Used it on all my Death Guard so I instantly knew what he was after with the brown. It looks better to mix some different browns for the first layer tho
Haha 🤣 nice news anchoring guy 👍
Great stuff as always Guy, love your videos.
It was 43 degrees in my back garden
So you could actually go all in on a super grim-dark rusty, barely colorful model - a few splashes of color to break it up, but mainly via flaky rusted-through panels, make it look like a super grim murder-machine caked in blood, oil, verdigris and rust. I think it'd be a super nice piece. But that's just what I'd do, I feel like everyone's titan is always a really personal build.
Looks cool. Very cool. Almost like a video game render. Nice work.

This is seriously amazing work. I'd love to see you do some Soritas stuff.
I have painted a few big robot bois and have struggled a bit with getting the metal to actually look interesting, but man did you succeed in that!! Using brown as a base coat is genius and having alot of the steal still quite dark with only sparingly dry brushing, as sparingly as can be on a model that huge. I will definitely come back to this video the next time I need to paint a imperial knight, dreadnought or something of the like:D
Yeah baby! More titan time.
Video hasn't even started yet but this is what I need today!!!
Came for the amazing painting and narrating, stayed for the dog end credits.

just went to audible and picked up a story for the iron warriors and ultramarines. Loving it
Guitar string also works well for cabling, and doesn't fray the way hair ties do.
This is gonna be glorious!
Some high temperature tips: Drink lots of water, like absolute loads. Try and find someplace with a crossbreeze, it will keep the air around you from becoming stifling, and will help the sweat on your skin evaporate, cooling you down. I also recommend not wearing much in the way of clothes, but if you do, they should be light colored, preferably nylon types and fairly tight fitting, so your sweat will soak them and still be able to keep you cool.
This metal looks so good! I'm actually in the UK right now and that hottest day was no joke
I love your homebrew wash, I use it on terrain all the time, I love it for big models since it cuts down on price per piece painted. Y'all also need to start putting in mini split systems, they're mini Air-Con systems, you can have it route to your office or wherever you spend the most time and have Air Con in that room at the very least.
