given how elaborate the ancient cities are, i really really hope they go above and beyond again for design if they ever redo nether fortresses and strongholds

Going off the comment thread it could be a portal to the end dimensions since it could use an update, although it would only be a section that is available through that portal

From what I understand, there are no plans for a new realm to visit in minecraft. So if you follow the context clues that Game Theorist did, one might conclude that the ancient city is in ruins because of the skulk taking over and the Warden killing and/or scaring the city inhabitants away. And that the big monument is in fact a portal to the realm the skulk came from, but it's so dangerous that any means to open that portal have long since been lost or destroyed to prevent anyone from going back, or more so, keeping anymore skulk from coming through. And the skulk itself is a living organism that works like a hivemind, I'll point to Stranger Things and the tentacles and Mindflayer as a loose example. It consumed most of the city and surrounding areas which is why things don't spawn there. And so when a player enters and sets off the shriekers enough times, the skulk is able to create the Warden to defend itself from harm. This is a lot tamer than some of the more popular mods like the taint from thaumcraft. I personally would love to see them implement that mysterious realm the skulk came from, actually get confirmation on the game's lore and what is and isn't happening in the narrative, and see if what Game Theorist said is true or close to the truth

Okay so hear me out. I don't think that portal will lead to a sculk dimension that the sculk came from or anything. I think it's the other way around: sculk was always in the overworld, that's why it's everywhere down below. The outsiders are actually an intelligent civilization (perhaps dwarvelike, based on the architecture). They found out how to make portals and reached the overworld, but appeared in the deeps. They discovered a new mineral: redstone! It seemed to do magic things, so they started investigating how it behaved and what it could be useful for. However the new world they found had a problem: sculk. The dark blue-green thing seemed funny at first, with its tentacles and sensors. However, they found out the hard way that it was not friendly, soon after the screaming started. Wjen the sculk started taking over their new-built city, the few citizens that survived had to fall back through the portal, shut it down, and hope the sculk hadn't already followed them there.

I really like this idea. The thought of some dark and creepy dimension never seemed that interesting since we already have the Nether, but this opens up new possibilities.

@@wattlesplays Like you said in the video, why would they make them unmovable and near indestructible if it was going to be just for lore? Especially in early versions where you could move them with Pistons. If that was the case, they wouldn't need to make them immovable in later versions.

11:26 I always thought that was supposed to be a burial site. As to say you'd find a casket of some kind buried below it. That's the vibe it gave me.

I definitely think that structure in the middle is a portal. I think the villagers who once lived in the Deep Dark Ancient Cities went through the portal to another realm when the Wardens showed up. I think the Wardens were once golems that got infected by the skulk. I hope eventually we will get to light the portals and travel to an entirely new dimension with villagers and new loot, biomes, etc.! If not, that is, at least, the lore I have built for my world!!

im pretty sure the warden came out of the portal like the ancient builder found another portal thingy and decided to turn it on then the warden bust out of the portal, killing everyone and infecting the place then one of the ancient builder managed to close the portal

I think Mojang didn't add Reinforced deepslate with no reason Wattles, because why they should add a block what you can't use to build something in survival

i really hope that it is some kind of portal that kinda unlocks the way to the new biomes in the end.

My theory is that Steve's Ancestors built the ancient cities. Some time later, long after Abandonment, the Illagers came and investigated them, which is why some structures seem repaired with Dark Oak, and the Camps structures are what was left of tents or "camps" the Illagers stayed in. This would also be where the Illagers got the Allay.

If the end portal goes to the end. Maybe the ancient portal goes to the beginning.

I wonder if the portal and how to open/activate it is already there and no one has figured it out yet. Like maybe you need to kill the warden while it is standing inside. Or light or extinguish all the candles within the city. Maybe move the candles around or use the skulls in someway. If it doesn't open a new dimension maybe it just links all the cities together. IDK. Just some thoughts.

I still don't understand the meaning of the name "warden," but doesn't that structure look like the warden's face?

The thing is that you can go in the ancient city without armour and weapons and you'd be fine as much as with netherite gear. So IMO it's a perfect place to explore immediately in a hardcore world, you'd get good loot quickly and worst case scenario you die in a hardcore world in the first couple of hours. The only "gear" i recommend is a bunch on wool blocks. So maybe farm some wool first which is easy to do in early game.

The game theorists did a video on the lore saying the that skulk came through that portal from a different dimension.

I haven’t watched Wattles in about a year (I fell off Minecraft for a while) and his voice and style of content has changed so much. I miss old Wattles but its cool to see this nee style too. Been around since about 300k so seeing the growth is so cool!

It was a failed attempt by the maker to spawn the Warden from the center "Frame" If you get to creative and place the "Reinforced Deepslate" in a 20 x 20 frame and place on top of it a Sculk Catalyst and one 'Sculk block' and per 5 'four' sculk sensor in each corner and 'one shrieker' or in any bigger format 'would have spawned a Warden' but the effect probably did not completely went as expected but instead looks like a sacrifical bath...

Minecarts should be a vid in the Everything Series. The furnace minecart is definitely underrated!

Speaking of wither, I spawned a Wither in an Ancient City to have it fight the Warden, and it was total DESTRUCTION. So many hostile mobs died, there was experience literally everywhere, and on top of that, THE WARDEN COMPLETELY DESTROYED THE WITHER!!!!

I can't wait for the Devs to put a pocket dimension into the game

dryness in relation to finding an ancient city means how often it rains, not if there is water nearby (that's what I heard anyway)

I went looking for an ancient city the other day. I ended up getting distracted catching some tadpoles instead.

The ancient city portal is definitely a portal an the smaller ones are Tribute to the big portal that teleport to an new Dimension if I had to say ancient civilization dimension where there probably will be villagers that are way more advanced than the ones we see with really awesome loot an if i had to guess the portal colour would probably be around the blueish teal with different effects then the end portal and nether portal is my guess 😝😁

I've mastered the ancient city already, spent about 7 hours exploring them yesterday without a death. I just want to know about the 'portal' 🤣 oh yeah, and 11:41 the portal shape and the little statue mimics the shape of the warden's head, maybe he has to screech at you through it or something?

If this is a portal I still have a few years before I start to get excited. It looks like a portal so I assume it is. As for coding a new world it may take a while. They have been working on caves and cliffs for over a year now and still cannot get fireflies right? Lol This is the Best Game Ever and I will happily speculate what things are but do not spend too much time dwelling. 1 I have No Clue and 2 it will likely take years to implement.

Isn't it strange, given the fact that obsidian (wich cannot be native to the nether) and sculk (given the color of the end portal frames and also isn't native to the end) is used to make portals to their respective locations.

Don't tell Eyecraft fans that. I commented about them making it a portal one day and had so many "MOJANG SAID THEY'D NEVER ADD ANOTHER DIMENSION" and it's just so hard to ignore that many people 🤦🏻‍♂️ I'm excited for the future of Minecraft though

Because of everyone saying that is a portal in the middle of the city made specifically of the reinforced deepslate so nobody destroys it so it's there for when it's activated.I made a ladder for easy access to mine and map markered it ..I used a creative copy and dug down to floor level in a safe place to check no lava ect was there so my ladders in a groove down the ancient city's wall when I reach it..and well lit up as I set lights in the wall as I went down too .

I think that minecraft often introduce stuff early that doesn't have use for until later update. so im pretty sure that the ancient city introduce this portal now. but might release update such as an end update or a biome enhance update and when all 3 dimensions feel complete, they will introduce a 4th dimension such as the ether or else and you have to dig deep into your world to find the portal to it ! then the warden drop could be change to something like 1 warden bone that could be crafted with deepslate to make reinforced deepslate and made custom portal on the other side. but imagine the challenge to kill 8 wardens to craft 1 reinforced deepslate but then need to craft a bigger 5x7 portal with reinforced deepslate

One thing I’ve noticed is that Java Edition’s cities have way more sculk in them than the Bedrock ones. It’s actually fairy easy to raid a city on Bedrock, of the ones I’ve found. It’s much harder on Java

I think its very likely that the portal in the ancient cities does indeed lead to a new dimension, think about it, the recovery compass might be used for this dimension since its basically useless for the overworld, nether and end since its most likely that in this 4th dimension you are going to die quite a few times "Unless your on hardcore". Now this new dimension wont be coming anytime soon, it will most likely be added in either 1.23 or 1.24 "The Echo Dimension" Update, so a few updates to the overworld and of course an end update afterwards it will be most likely that the portal in the ancient cities will be activate and will take us to a new dimension know as "The Echo" in possibly 1.24 or 1.23, most likely 1.24 since the number 4, Now? what would the theorized Echo Dimension look like? Well that's up to concept art, and ideas anyways whats your opinion on this comment?.

I think it would be cool if the portal leads to whatever or whoever lived there. Like maybe they were at war with the warden or the pillagers and fled to another dimension and someday maybe ther will be a way for us to open that portal and explore that dimension. 🤔

I think its a new dimension they want to make soon probably for 1.19 itself, but seemed to be abit too much at the moment as they had to delay many things from 1.18 to 1.19 itself as well like the warden. The warden was planned to be in 1.18 but failed to make it.

I think it “was” a portal, but I don’t think we’re ever going to be able to go through it. It just serves to deepen the mystery of the city. I think we’re supposed to look at it and listen to the music disc and let our imaginations tell the story of the ancient city
