Rally cars are a special breed. They forgo the insatiable quest for power and outright speed in favor of handling, reliability, and endurance. When searching for a hero car for this video we wanted something unique, technically interesting, and with a bit of history behind it. We then bumped into Bruce Garland - a man as colorful as his rally car!

Yeah, a fu#king legend! Now everyone who's got another excuse to not go and work on their car, should be ashamed. Can't wait to meet him here, in Goodwood.

i reckon when you are faced something like this, taking on a project with a goal to finish it helps get you through. that's if you can physically manage it between treatments at least, but mentally you need something to keep you motivated.
This man is a legend. Hell of an interview.

Sorry dad. Bruce is the man I want to be when I grow up.
This guy gets it. Sounds like he has been through hell and back, but still maintaining his passion. Hats off to you sir.
"there's nothing fancy back here" **immediately displays immaculate fuel cell**
Highest Respect to the owner ✊🏼 He been through a lot and he still working hard finishing the build and racing again .
Bruce is the perfect example why it is awesome being an Aussie. Great car to go with it.
Bruce is the ultimate most unapologetic Australian man i think I've ever seen. He sounds like he'd be a right laugh down the pub
Bruce a cool cat, the car is awesome and it's refreshing to see a normal bloke that can pedal an escort, fairplay
Best interview ever! What a great episode Scotty!!! What an AWESOME Car (I have to admit, I love Ford Escorts, I’ve owned eight of them. Wish I still had them) and an absolutely amazing bloke! Not only had he beaten a heart attack. He’s also kicked Cancers ass and says exactly what we all think about front wheel drives. HAHAHA 🤣. You Sir, are an absolute LEGEND!!!
This gentelman is a real inspiration how to grow old. Relentless bastard and so positive. Thank you sir and Haltech for bringing us the interview!
I'm jealous... He can still find his Old Fellow...Epic video, Scott!
Awesome interview with a great bloke. I can’t believe someone didn’t like this video 🤷♂️👍

Best laugh I've had in a while!
Extremely well done to both Bruce and the Haltech team for this 2 parter. Its something very different to what we normally see, but both car and presentation are absolutely top notch. No doubt a bit of a character that'll offend some modern sensibilities, but you'd need to be stupid not to find words of wisdom worth their weight in gold from that much experience.
Great vid scott, loved the wee chat!!
My man applied the Bernoulli principle to his Stanley Johnson. What. A. Legend.
I remember reading about Bruce in Overlander magazine in the late 80s. Still driving hard, great to see!

A k series in a old esky. Now I've seen every thing. Bloody awesome
A cracking interview and build breakdown, well done Haltech!
Stories like that in the end make videos special. Grean fun but also genius 😄
What a guy! Inspirational just doesn't quite cover it👌👌
awesome video guys, love the piss tube part, 10 years of development, absolute legend, hats off to him
Healthy chuckles while covering a little beast of a car. Pragmatic build considerations. That was interesting!

Bruce is a bit of a legend and a funny bloke too - which makes for a good interview:)
What a hero! Cracking video, amazing car and Bruce is a legend.
Bruce is a bloody legend! Fond memories of his story telling from my days in the North Shore Sporting Car Club 😂👍😎
So, he's literally getting his "old fella" sucked while driving? Legend!
This is probably the best thing to do with cars I’ve seen ever. Watch till the end you won’t regret it.
that emergency brake lock is an absolute game changer
This was without doubt the best episode yet & the diving scenes with that little escort revving its nuts off had me giggling like school girl.
It looks great, but the video still doesn't do it justice. Brucey you're a maniac and a legend mate! But I'm still waiting for that ride!
What a legend, great interview love the esky
An itasha style K swapped Ford. Hell yes, well done man. I wish you could bolt a turbo on that thing. All sh!ts aside that car is amazing as well as the driver. Good on ya.
Just an awesome build, the owner can really streach the curb! Amazing
Legendary man, car and tuner all in one video!!
Paint job suits it 100% looks really cool!

Good on you mate! Great show. Stick in!🔥
Damn that is the ULTIMATE CAR GUY
Love ya work, Bruce! Bloody nice car.
this guy needs his own show .....
This is a ball tearer, thanks for showing it to us.
Sofles paintwork! Lovely
If that won't give you a hardon then nothing will. What a dude! *ha! I didn't get to the piss story until now. What an absolute legend!*
Great video. Must be a blast to rip the Mk1 on tarmac with that soft gravel spec. Respect to the owner for being a double-hard legend who drives in the approved manner.
Great interview!
I've never in my life seen a Mk 1 escort with a livery like that 👌 much respect from escort land 🤙💯☘🍀🇮🇪 Love to see that escort do Donegal or Monaghan (my home rally) 🤙💯🍀☘
Absolute legend
You sir are a champion.
Great video, legend luvs to rev it.
Awesome stuff!
Pretty cool that sofles is his nephew
Legend of a bloke !
Jatz crackers! I'm dead.😂 I'd definitely buy this man a lemon squash. Legend. Awesome car too.
Escorts is my fav car of alltime all from mk1 to 6
The pissaphone! What a crack up. Awesome rig, surprised he hasn't tweaked the K24 to hit 10k rpm too.
ESCORTS FTWWWW!!! LOVE RALLY!
Brilliant as always. Rustys Garage podcast series also recently did a story on Bruce as well
That man can drive 🤘🔥
@haltech
Жыл бұрын
He sure can!
after watching the boostedboiz with one of these engines in an MR2 wheelie to the moon, i think these engines should be well supported for a RWD auto and manual trans and everything in between before long. lots of great content in this episode also, even the pissaphone was interesting(can see a need for improvement here also still)
Ol mate sure can drive.. good job buddy.
Right up there in the top 5 of coolest dad/grandads PERIOD. Now, how to convince him I’m his long-lost grandson??? Edit: I could use a gearshift/drift brake handle like that!!!
Great guy. Great car
Best video yet!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Faaarkn close to that gutter on exit! 👍 2:27
I have been looking for a k24 swapped Mk1 esky to see how its done. I would love to see a video of it up in the air. The gearbox information is awesome. My only difference is I want to turbo mine but Haltec will be running it for sure.
used to have one of those back in the day
That was awsome 😄😁
Guys a fucking legend!
Nice one guys, awesome story. Chucking a 2.0l ecoboost in my mk1 escort. Would l ove to use a haltech however its a DI engine so will be reverse engineering the Bosch ME17.2.1 and getting it all working that way.
I like it!
growing up in Ireland with the small twisty roads the escort was the car to have.. over 100 mph. we always had someone in front telling us the traffic cows or sit on the road
Perfection
Top man.
What a character.
nice one
Military pilots usually change their bags at least once on those long duration flights btw.
lol u learned a lot of stuff going "through this escort"
First 30s all I can think is would you even fit in that car🤣 Awesome build tho, hats off to the owner 👍
Often the driver will opt to put the tyre back in, if it fits Doing this makes sure the weight balance of the car remains the same and doesn't change so the driver doesn't need to change the driving style

and most rallies you need to finish the stage with the same amount of wheels as you start with, including spares
genius!
Hhah best video 😆
Ole mate knows how to drive
haha, what a legend!

What gearbox in the car?
7:55 - How much can a koala bear? Heart attack, then prostate cancer, what's next?
I share his thought about FWD
How big a deal is it to fit 1 of these engines into the mk1/mk2? S2000 engine and boxes just seem like no brainers when they're over 200+ standard and reliable.
Sell it to me on your death bed!!! 10/10 my kinda guy!!! I wouldn't change anything about it, that car is PERFECT in every single way...+10000000000000000000000000000000000000! BruceForTheFuckingWIN!!! That pisser hole is genius!!!
