Anatomic Coping
Porcelain fracture in multilayered prosthesis is a common clinical complication. The possibility of such a failure can be reduced by providing support to the overlying porcelain.
On the basis of its shape, there are two types of coping designs:
Anatomically Reduced Coping is one that is designed to provide a uniform thickness to the layered porcelain.
Advantages
- Provides proper support for porcelain, thereby reducing the possibility of chipping/fracture.
- Allows porcelain to ‘wrap around’ the framework, thereby increasing the compressive bonding.
- Minimizes the residual stresses in the veneering ceramic (following the firing cycle).
