28:59 This "One week of no sex" per month is during menstruation. Ben doesn't mention that. It's not just "no sex" the women are basically ostracized for that time.

The women at that time of the month should be isolated to a small, moss-floored hut. Preferably all synched up with their moon times so as to not deprive the tribe of different women all the time.

Ben would probably be in favor of ostracizing women and labeling them "unclean" for a natural biological function.

@@th-3dstudioth-3dstudio16 No. Well, I don't know maybe. I haven't ever come across it on KZread personally. The idea actually stems from ancient tribes all over the world knowing that when a woman has her period, not only is she vulnerable, but she puts the entire tribe at risk with the smell of blood attracting dangerous predatory animals. The moss-floored hut idea specifically comes from the Archaic age Pacific Northwestern Indian tribes that practiced that particular way of dealing with the dangers of their tribal women during their menstrual cycle. Because they've got a lot of moss up there in the damp rainforest.

Boxing people into "women are like this" and "men are like that" is not helpful at all. Communication is about finding common ground. It's no surprise they don't mention talking to your partner directly.

Right out of the box, Ben comes out with some world-class ignorance about Freud, and Peterson agrees. Sublimation is a defense, according to Freud. It's not just about sexuality; it's about all internally forbidden and denied impulses. It occurs unconsciously. It is a redirection of psychically unacceptable impulses toward more psychically acceptable aims. Sublimation hasn't disappeared because social norms for sexuality have changed. If you believe Freud's account, sublimation is occurring all the time, And Freud is neither in favor of sublimation nor against it. He merely described it a fact of psychic life. Later psychologists are not against sublimation. Some don't believe it exists because they reject Freud's psychoanalytic theory. They have other explanations for behaviors Freud would identify as sublimation. To be clear, I know of no psychologist who believes that one should express their impulses and indulge their wishes without regard to consequence or harm to self or others. I know of no psychologist who dismisses moral restraints. Ben has some pop psychology notions of Freud and psychology generally. He doesn't have a clue about these matters. He's just enlisting Freud, falsely, as a justification for his opposition to sexual expression that makes him anxious and violates his religious orthodoxy,

When Ben attempts to describe sublimation, he seems to be talking about the reality principle or something of that sort. Why even bother reacting to these guys who clearly have not bothered to familiarize themselves with the topic they are discussing. Even more stunning for Jordan, who has supposedly studied, taught and practiced in this field for decades. I always had the impression that Jordan reaches his conclusions independently of his study and simply takes convenient bits of whatever he's read to back what he already takes for granted.

The whole theory of modern monogamy is manifestly unsatisfactory just as it is radically unsound. Man is by nature attracted to no particular woman but rather to a multiplicity of women exemplifying a particular type. To really feel fulfilled he should be emotionally and otherwise involved with a dozen paramours or so. This is not at all a call for libertinism. The libertine forms after all under conditions of romantic scarcity. He is characterized to a great extent by a kind of militant resistance to societal norms, the element of protest is much too strong in him, tending to crowd out and prevent the formation of charming and pleasant friendship. The great problem in the West is this mania for passing on property to one's heirs. Property, if one is not careful, becomes much more of a nuisance than a boon - its maintenance and duties exercising an outsized claim on one's time. If socialism were only capable of functioning as advertised there would be much to recommend it especially the fact that it permits one to shirk his responsibilities in regard to his property. Alas this is not the case. Property without individual ownership soon falls to ruin. In any case marriage seems to have arisen the better that man can be assured of an heir to his property. All of monogamies great agonies are in virtue of a concern that only arises once man departs this world for the next. As Ive mentioned frequently and I still believe rightly the matrilineal polyamorous societies of the east seem to do a far better job, separating the romantic aspects of life from the utilitarian ones. The Mosuo are a good example and one might add that it is in just such matrilineal society that Marxism is most at home. Matrilineally structured societies cure a multitude of ills with the added virtue of showing the way forward to the stateless society which we tend to forget is Marxism's ultimate destination.
