ANALYZING EMO BANDS

Музыка

Voice teacher Sam Johnson and producer Hiram Hernandez have a conversation about some iconic scene musicians. I hope this observation on how Gerard Way of My Chemical Romance, Anthony Cappocchi of Dragged Under, Adam Lazzara of Taking Back Sunday, Patrick Stump of Fall Out Boy, and Bert McCracken of The Used sing helps you figure out how the voice works better, so you can learn how to make smart choices in your own voice.

Gerard Way is an emotional storyteller. I think he gets out of his voice exactly what he is going for. If your voice matches your goal and it isn't damaging I think it is perfect for the part.

My favorite singer from this popular "emo bands" is Patrick Stump. I'm not a huge fan of punk-pop music, more like a casual listener, but I really believe he's an amazing singer... He stands out to me because his voice is powerful, his delivery is very passionate and somehow the contrast between his personality (he's such a nice guy, gentlemanly, kind, good sense of humor but maybe a bit too nice sometimes) versus how CONFIDENT, relaxed and versatile he seems on stage... It's sort of charming to me. I think he's amazing. I enjoy how he plays with his technique, it gives his delivery a lot of personality. I wish I could listen to him singing a wider variety of music... Something like neo soul or jazz funk would be interesting (something that mixes older with more modern sounds)... That joke about him having "a soul voice" is actually the perfect way to describe why he's such a great singer. I believe Patrick is a member of some Musical Academy now?? He would be such a great teacher.

Gee Harrod Back in the day MCR was too mainstream and some of us 2000s teens were extra lame and cared wayyy too much about not listening to things “normies” liked.

Bert McCracken was my hero for singing but I can’t sing like him and if I do try it hurts especially on a lot of the vocal fry. Not to mention he does have an insane vocal range you can definitely hear it in their first Album (self titled album) He’s also had vocal surgery. Too me he’s really underrated and he’s amazing and even if his vocals aren’t perfect live he puts on an amazing show. So thank you for recognizing him. Long story short. I heard him for the first time in 6th grade on Fuse TV. The Taste of Ink Music video was brand new. And when I heard 4 o’clock in fucking morning it blew me away and I kept my attention. I’ve been a huge fan ever since.
