Analysis of Gait Motion: Transverse Plane
Learn the various movements that occur in the transverse plane at each joint in the lower extremity throughout the gait cycle. Super slow-motion video helps highlight motion necessary for normal ambulation.

Yes phenomenal. One question please. Does it mean that midstance or a transition to midstance is a combination of lateral rotation of the hip joint and internal rotation of the ankle (pronation)?

Thank you for the kind words and for supporting our channel. Your observation would be correct. At midstance the hip is transitioning from internal rotation to lateral rotation as the opposite side of the pelvis moves past neutral and backwards. As the foot approaches midstance it transitions to a pronated position to unlock and adapt to the ground. As we near terminal stance the foot returns to a supinated position to create a rigid lever to propel with.
Great. It's good that you showed it in closed and open kinematic chain. It shows how works the "screw home mechanism". Thank you.

Thank you for this video! What program did you use in order to show the bones during GAIT? Is it publicly accessible?

We did not use a specific program for this video. The animation was assembled using multiple programs. Thanks for watching, we appreciate your support of our channel.
Thanks from Vietnam! I gained a lot of knowledge from this video that I don't have in school! however, i would really like to know in case of hip rotation is there any muscle that is overworked or weak? very lucky if i be more understanding! Thank you and the team

Thank you for watching and for the kind words. As a general rule we primarily have issues with mobility and range of motion for hip rotation versus muscle weakness in the transverse plane. As patients age their hips don't internally rotate as well so that can lead to other issues with gait. Hope that provides some insight.
