Analog Mixing (SSL Console) GoPro POV - "Get Out Of Bed" by Magician's Nephew
I’m excited that this video has become so popular; this was just a quick GoPro test video, never intended to demonstrate a quality mix. I have much better mixing videos on my channel for anyone interested.

@* AnimalHeadSpirit * Can't argue with that. Most "Mix Engineers" these days have a ton of plugins and other tools at their disposal to close the gap between themselves and proper Engineers. But the mixes I here from the latter have always sounded better to me, subjectivity be damned. And yes, I strongly agree that our Engineers deserve far more credit than what they get now.

There are far more capabilities in the box than on a console....So no, SSL mixing is not “how you mix” in 2019.
He mixed this so good, the mastering engineer is going to be confused.

As a Live sound engineer I approve of the amazing skill you have good balancing and gain structure absolutely awesome effects
When the Pultec kicks in.
Watching this again a year later and learning music theory, basic production and mastering for a few months, I realized that I need to train my ears a bit more and I'm starting to get there now, really awesome work👍✨
I'm an 18 year old student, I'm taking a stage production class and I've been FOH engineer for a play and a musical, my teacher is Mr. Tobe Bean. He's an awsome teacher. I hope to do what you do man. Keep up the amazing work!

Great mixing! The recording engineer did a great job as well!
This is amazing! looks like so much more fun than working in a DAW! A bevor and after comparison would also be great to see!
Man, this looks like so much more fun than clicking around a DAW all day! Did you prepare in the computer before breaking out to the SSL?

boy this girl's really seems good who is she? she is rocking.
The hardest thing about this job is you have to like every song you mix.
I'm not knocking mixing in the Box call but the fluidity of reaching for a knob turning it until your ears feel good, has a pretty sweet payoff, it's quick, and it looks dope like in this video.
This actually makes for an amazing music video.
Step 1: compress Step 2: slight eq Step 3: profit
Whatever you did to that vocal was 90s magic...
I had my phone in mono and it soinded stereo
I can literally watch this all day!
Such a breath of fresh air, reminds me of watching Tom elmhirst on Mix with the masters. It’s like a performance. Great job
Best speed run of a VR mixing sim I’ve ever seen.
Probably not required for this song but routing FX returns into stereo pairs of channel strips on the console will give you far more dimension. You have some amazing stuff (AMS/Eventide/Lexicon) and it will allow far greater control of the tonality and dynamics of these units.
@DanDuskin

I would love to route the FX returns back on a stereo pair, that would be great! I think I need more channels ;) Thanks for the comment Stefan :)

Not my brand of music to listen to but man the end product sounds superb. The lesson,... Great Console + Great Outboard Gear + Great Ears/Critical Listening + Great Technical Understanding Of Audio Engineering + Decisive Decision Making = Exceptional Sounding Pro Mixes,... there are NO shortcuts to excellence! I am very inspired by this mans videos,... and his studio, well c'mon,... it's pure Xanadu.

Nothing short of masterful. If you do tracking, I would to see your process. Harder to do it in a video like this but gaining up, dialing in a tone, patch play (probably not much experimenting left for you to do lol) beautiful set up. My dream wish list, right down to the cable ramps lol

It just goes to show you how much work and talent is involved to do a professional mix. Keep it Analog.
That Ssl just looks like a joy to use, of course it helps if you've a couple of racks full of lovely comps, distressors, eq's etc to fire those sends/inserts into. Great work, love your setup too
Pure awesomeness! Love to see a pro at work.❤️

This is why I love mixing analog. It “feels” like you’re actually mixing and you’re having tons of fun doing it. I hate the fact that so people these days feel like this is an unnecessary skill to have. This is art that needs to be protected just like the rarest Rembrandt.

I INSTANTLY learned a lot from watching this.. I still believe the best results come from mixing on a console. I INSTANTLY heard the stereo separation when panning hard left/right.
Dont know why i feel so much fun and... am i the only one who repeat this vid 7 times just to feel the fun? 😅 😂
It's a pleasure to see you work sir... Thank you for the video.. I wish a have a setup like this.. Subscribed for sure..
Two thumbs way up! I stumbled upon your videos somehow and really enjoy the whole wordless, let the music and mixing speak for itself approach. It's also very cool that this is not another 'in the box' VST tutorial. I guess I'm old school, but I prefer the twiddling knobs and outboard gear patching approach, too. One thing I would like to understand (Maybe it's another video on your channel, please point me to it) is how you do the routing and setup of aux's, etc.
I could watch this all day
Ur badass man. I wish I could work on a board like that. I even whent to school for audio engineering but couldn't find any job opportunities besides small time underground stuff .

See this is what's great about this line of work. I'm trying to improve my overall ability to mix at the moment for my own music, watching videos like this makes me extremely jealous of your knowledge, however, as someone who learns best watching and doing rather than reading and writing, these videos are absolutely fantastic. This man just got a better sounding mix in 8 minutes than I would in 40, but as I've learned over the past few years, I see it's just as important to be working with good efficiency as it is being effective at achieving a good sounding result. Awesome video Daniel, thanks for sharing! P.S. Any chance I get these days, analog all the way ;)
Nice man..very nice. Feels good having a SSL Mix Desk like that one.... ENJOY IT TO THE FULLEST!! West man!!
