Analog Mixing (SSL Console) GoPro POV - "Get Out Of Bed" by Magician's Nephew

I’m excited that this video has become so popular; this was just a quick GoPro test video, never intended to demonstrate a quality mix. I have much better mixing videos on my channel for anyone interested.

But the mixes I here from the latter have always sounded better to me, subjectivity be damned. And yes, I strongly agree that our Engineers deserve far more credit than what they get now.

Probably not required for this song but routing FX returns into stereo pairs of channel strips on the console will give you far more dimension. You have some amazing stuff (AMS/Eventide/Lexicon) and it will allow far greater control of the tonality and dynamics of these units.

It's also very cool that this is not another 'in the box' VST tutorial. I guess I'm old school, but I prefer the twiddling knobs and outboard gear patching approach, too. One thing I would like to understand (Maybe it's another video on your channel, please point me to it) is how you do the routing and setup of aux's, etc.

See this is what's great about this line of work. I'm trying to improve my overall ability to mix at the moment for my own music, watching videos like this makes me extremely jealous of your knowledge, however, as someone who learns best watching and doing rather than reading and writing, these videos are absolutely fantastic. This man just got a better sounding mix in 8 minutes than I would in 40, but as I've learned over the past few years, I see it's just as important to be working with good efficiency as it is being effective at achieving a good sounding result. Awesome video Daniel, thanks for sharing! P.S. Any chance I get these days, analog all the way ;)

I imagine this was a competition. Do the best mix you can while only playing the song twice.

F#%KING EXCELLENT VID MAN !! Love it dudes, not so much the song but what a great idea to shoot live mixing BRILLIANT...more please...Maybe add an intro with all the RIgs Lines And the band set up into the Desk. Is it to Tape? Or DIgital? I'm not up on SSL Desks but would love a magnified view of the Desk as you apply changes - not sure how to film that but would be great teaching tool. Go dan and nephew.. Pete
