In this weeks video I decided to keep it simple.
I put a song in protools, throw it out to the 96 channel Solid State Logic Duality Fuse, patch some gear I don't normally use, and mix the song.
This was such a fun song to do because it is simple and has a killer flute solo at the end! That flute patched into an LA2A and a Bricasti reverb is the perfect combination.
So sit back, listen with headphones or good speakers, and enjoy my friend.
Thanks for watching!

    Love your videos man. The type of content that you have to offer honestly is one of a kind. The access and availability that you have to all the gear in that studio is not something that I have ever seen before in the sense of being able to sit down for hours and make videos with all that stuff. Keep it up, your work is appreciated🙏🏼

    I agree, I’m always looking for a nice reverb and never really satisfied with them. I just don’t have the money for it 😢😅😂 Sounds perfect to me 👌🏼 Maybe I’ll give the LiquidSonics plugin a try.

    I really like watching your videos. This will probably be the closest for me to get inside a studio and see the things that can be done on an SSL console. Please keep these type videos coming, they are much appreciated.

    Dude, love the workflow and the finished mix sounds killer. Echo the reverb comments below - just amazing. Did the artist comment on your tuning choice on the flute solo? That semitone up sounded a bit off to my ears… but again, just great watching you work man. Thanks for posting!

    Hey thanks so much for your kind words. No this was just a fun mix that I did for the channel. No client listened to it. I honestly wasn’t happy with the tuning choice at all on that haha I kind of just moved on from it and thought it gave it character

    Cool video! Question, do the vocals have hard tuning on them? I hear twirling/phasing sound - was that by design or by accidently going to hard on the tuning? Thanks

    Does automation on Duality only record faders and mutes like on a good old 4000 ? or do the sends and eq's are also automated ?

  • @flugfloh6281
    @flugfloh62815 ай бұрын

    Awesome stuff! Just a question, what is your decision for which EQ to run on what, and specifically, when do you use the console EQ only, and when do you go for an external one? Thanks man :)

  • @JoshWestMix

    @JoshWestMix

    4 ай бұрын

    Thanks so much and great question! Since I have an SSL EQ on every channel, I primarily rely on those eq’s. I go for an external eq when I want a certain flavor that the SSL doesn’t have. Typically this flavor is for a feature on an important instrument like vocal, snare drum, piano, a featured sound effect, etc. I have gotten so used to the different sounds of the EQ’s in this room that when I start to hear the fader mix come together, I can easily tell which instrument deserves to be used with each outboard eq. Hopefully that makes sense!

    I’m curious how you deal with your effects when printing them in, all in one pass vs parenting them into separate tracks and moving them around or processing them retrospectively

  • @JoshWestMix

    @JoshWestMix

    4 ай бұрын

    Since we have so many channels on this console and so much I/O on our converters, I print all effects, all in one pass, and all on their own separate channels. The left side of the console has 24 channels that are always reserved for effect returns. This way we have tons of flexibility between different types of effects that we can use.

    On this mix I was using the Genelec 1234A’s. They are the big ones mounted in the wall in front of the console. I did switch to the Genelec 1031A’s a few times which are on top of the meter bridge of the console

    The arpeggio guitar track kills that song. The most obvious thing you could’ve done was to try it on the verses or chorus only.
